  1. Ooh. You may know this already but you can get a free month trial of Walmarts grocery delivery. And you can get anything from the store to include medicines and shakes. Or you can do grocery pickup (but then you have to carry it in when you get home of course). There is a minimum order for both but I just stocked up of cleaning supplies and toiletries items that I knew I will use eventually to meet the minimum. If I remember correctly it’s unlimited number of deliveries for the month. Also, if you do take a little longer to heal a cleaning person would be something to consider. Doesn’t have to be a professional, just Someone to at least do your laundry and dishes and tidy up a bit. Also, they probably wouldn’t mind reaching a couple things down or lifting things that you shouldn’t while they are there. And you could arrange grocery delivery while they are there. I know that I was feeling pretty good and it was really hard to look at the stuff that needed to be cleaned and not do it. I was good but it was hard. Just making sure the house was actually cleaned before hand would have helped with that quite a bit too. I have no clue why I didn’t think of that but I didn’t and wish I had.

    New ans starting process

Have you tried plain green tea? I did a quick google search for drinks without citric acid and it says many of the flavored ones contain it but the plain one does not. I personally would ask the surgeon if you can try it and see if you can tolorate it though. Or if they have more suggestions. I’m sure you won’t be the first one that’s having a hard time finding things that don’t contain it.

    Acid reflux at nightime

Ooh I never heard that. Do you think the bed wedge would do the same thing or no?? It seems to basically accomplish the same thing as an adjustable bed does.

    Food question

Once you are cleared for soft food you can try those things. I would start with deli meat and end with hamburger. Meatballs may be easier cause they typically have sauce. Dry meat seems to bother some people. Lettuce also bothers some but I didn’t have any issues with any foods in terms of tolerating them. It’s just trial and error. Best advice is to go slow and Try one new food at a time so if you do have issues you can pin point it. The NP at my clinic said slow and moist And over chewed.
  5. My husband brought me home from the hospital after work the day after surgery and went to work the next day. Granted he works minutes away and could’ve come home if I needed him but I didn’t. Everyone’s recovery is sooo much different. If I was going to be home alone I may ask the surgeon if the visiting nurse is something that would be available if needed. I’m guessing they wouldn’t have a problem prescribing it. I had one after I got a melonoma removed and that wasn’t nearly as major of a surgery as this is. You may be pleasantly surprised though. I had very little pain post op and was up walking around with the nurse in recovery. Again. Everyone is different so it doesn’t hurt to plan for the worst, but hope for the best.

    2nd Day Post Op

if dogmoms ideas don’t work and you think you are dehydrated but it’s not emergent yet try your doctor first. They should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an out patient. Will save you another hospital bill. Of course if it gets bad or you can’t get a response from them go to the ER.
  7. Good idea to take them at bedtime because getting sleep is so important to healing. You could always take Tylenol during the day. Maybe call and ask how many you can really take because I believe it may be more often than stated on the packaging if directed by a doctor. But if the pain is seriously not controlled except with the pain RX I would let them know that as well. You don’t want to take them to just take them but they do make them for a reason. The pain should get just a little better each day though. Fingers crossed you are feeling much better soon.

    Acid reflux at nightime

I would definitely be certain to tell my surgeon about this prior to the surgery day. They may want to consider bypass instead. Sometimes they go ahead with sleeve but a lot of times they choose bypass. I am not sure how they determine medically but they are the ones to trust to help make the decision. As for the mean time try sleeping propped up on a bunch of pillows or a bed wedge. They sell them at medical supply but they also have them on Amazon. Staying in a more upright position should help.

    New ans starting process

We’re you told to avoid citric acid or something. I use the crystal light drink mixes but if I had to guess they contain citric acid. I haven’t looked.
  10. I have been able to eat more than expected at every given stage since my sleeve so I have to measure my portions still. At one year out I have been eating around one serving of most things. I just made dinner though and those hard taco shells from old El Paso seem pretty big for the serving size to be TWO shells?? I ate one and don’t feel full (but I never do). I am just curious if other sleevers that are over a year out would have more than one?? I guess the amount of meat you get in one shell isn’t much (I didn’t weight it).

    Liquid diet

Ooh good idea. My nutritionist gave me samples of bariatric advantage that my surgeon recommended. I later showed them the literature for the pro care health and they said those were fine as well but the bariatric advantage was convenient immediately post op because the multivitamin is chewable and so is the calcium.

    Liquid diet

I take the pro care health one a day. They don’t make me nauseous (I drink a full shake every morning and then take it). They are reasonably priced and truly one a day. Like liveaboard15 said though it’s really a matter of finding one that works for you. I didn’t use a straw until about 6 months out I got a smoothie out and didn’t think about it having a straw. It was fine. Didn’t cause any issues so now I use one all the time.

    Pre qualifications for surgery

I didn’t have surgery with Carrum but can tell you that the length of time the process takes is dictated mostly by the insurance company. Some require a 3 or 6 month weight loss attempt where a doctor weighs you every month. Also most require a psyc evaluation and you may also have to do some medical tests to determine you are fit for surgery to name a few of the common requirements. Beyond that, it will just depend on how busy your doctor is. Once I had completed my requirements it was about a month till my surgery.
  14. I wouldn’t keep vaping even zero nicotine. You may pass the test I’m honestly not sure but even the zero nicotine can cause issues during surgery I have heard. Not worth having complications. Plus it’s really freeing to not have to worry about bringing a vape and juice and charging it all the time. All of that you don’t realize what a pain it is until you quit and are free of doing all that.

    Swallowable bariatric vitamins

I take my multivitamin whenever I wake up (as long as you wake up before 10) and i take my calcium at 12 and 3. I have a recurring alarm set on my phone for the calcium because if I am out and about I will totally forget it. I take calcium in pill form but I have a few chewable ones in my purse in case I am out and don’t have a drink handy. I had some left over from immediately post op when I used to take them so I just use them for that now.

    Full liquids - Veggie Soup

Great idea and if you are like me and only know how to make a huge pot and the only one that likes it consider “Souper Cubes” to freeze the rest. They are basically giant ice cube molds but then you can put them in ziplocks and they fit so nicely in the freezer.
  17. In terms of fluids if you talk to your surgeon they should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an out patient. Perhaps they can just schedule this ahead given your situation. I only needed to go one time and I was able to drink the full 64 ounces shortly after surgery but not everyone gets there that quickly (it depends on swelling I think). i was also told no gummies. I did the bariatric advantage chewable multivitamin just after surgery but switched to the capsules the next month or so. Everyone is different on this too but I was swallowing small pills on the hospital the day after surgery so I had no issues with the capsules.
  18. Hello and welcome. My Number one most important piece of advice is that this is your journey and it will be unique. We are all here to cheer you on and support you but your experience will be different from ours and that’s perfectly fine. Trust your team and trust the process. It works.

    Dry Mouth

Seems so obvious but try putting glass on water on night table and drink throughout the night.

Surgery seems like a long way away!

Yes that is the correct word.
  21. I would add start as soon as possible. The longer you are free from the habit the better. You will be going through more changes during the pre op and post op diets and ideally you will be over the vaping thing totally by then.
  22. I was going to recommend lowering the nicotine as well. That’s how I did it. By the time you are fine vaping zero you have kicked the nicotine and just have to quit the habit. For that dumm dumm lollipops or sugar free popsicles if you are on pre op diet will keep your hands and mouth busy.

    Hidden triggers

It was commercials that got me most post surgery. I didn’t have a lot of food apps though. Post op I would watch Netflix which helped a little bit of course they still eat on the shows so you can’t really totally avoid seeing tempting food.
  24. Exercise is important to your overall health of course and it helps to keep the weight off down the road but it’s not imperative for weight loss. You should be able to get out and do a little bit as the weight begins to come off but it’s honestly more about your diet in the beginning anyways. You may need to walk some to get the gas out but you can do that with the aid of another person or a cane or walker, whatever is necessary. I actually didn’t have any gas. I walked anyways because it was the protocol but I never did have gas so not everyone does.

    Eating disorder

As others have mentioned, you don’t necessarily have to eat more volume to get more calories in. You can work with your nutritionist to get in more healthy fats such as avocado, nuts, dressings, oils, etc. If you have trouble with that, though the shakes would be a good option as well.
