I don’t have any experience with anything like what you are going through but want to just say I’m sorry that you are experiencing all that. They do have some newer weight loss drugs that are said to be good if you just have a few pounds to lose but they are still having a hard time getting them covered by some insurance. I guess they are really diabetes drugs and they would be covered but for that use. Hopefully they do cover them soon for weight loss but it’s worth looking into. Maybe your one of the lucky ones that your insurance will cover it now.

I am so glad that you are starting to realize that what your family has been doing is wrong and you have broken ties. All you can do about your mom is continue to be there for her and offer her support but get yourself even stronger so that you are better equipped to help her if she does decide to leave. Is there any way to get her tapes or something so she can start learning English? Maybe her and her friend could learn the language and practice together?

NEED HELP .... Vitamins and SEVERE GI Distress!
ShoppGirl replied to jojolynn73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people who just absolutely cannot take the vitamins do the patches. Thete is not a ton of research to back their effectiveness but I have seen a few people on here who claim their labs have been good. It couldn’t hurt to try if nothing else is working?? -
Post Op: Struggling a little
ShoppGirl replied to LookingForward22's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m pretty sure if your urine is light then your hydrated but of course I am not a doctor. If the headache could be explained by the sweeteners and your urine is light that just leaves the nausea that’s unexplained. It couldn’t hurt to give them a ring. At the very least they can give you something to take for the nausea. -
Many of us can’t reach our water or protein goals the first several days. Just do your best and if you see signs of dehydration contact your team and they should be able to arrange for fluids as an outpatient. Try different flavors and different temperatures too. Some people can handle hot tea and such or room temp over cold. Also remember that all fluids count towards your goal for most programs. Sugar free popsicles also help.

Post Op: Struggling a little

I believe both headache and nausea are both signs of dehydration. Is it possible the headache is not from the sweeteners? Is the nausea unexplained? If you have other signs such as dark urine you may need to get some fluids via iv. I would first try to call your team to see if they can arrange for it as an out patient. They should have someone on call to answer on the weekends but I’m not sure if they can arrange for fluids after hours. If you can’t get that then you should really consider going to the ER. -
Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
ShoppGirl replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m saying that some people try to and that why you probably had to have all those tests to prove it. I just know that the insurance companies make all these obstacles to jump through because they don’t believe people really have it. I’m assuming that’s because some people did fake it at some point. -
Can obesity be a culprit of depression?

Okay I have no idea how or if you intended to alter my quote but I did not say all that. Anyone reading this please refer back to my original post. -

Just watch the caffeine as something that could be contributing to the heartburn. -
My brain still thinks I'm a size 28

It’s good that you are taking pictures. I started off taking them but forgot somewhere along the way. Looks like you are doing fantastic. Keep up the good work. -

Good. Hopefully they can give you something different to manage it or get the process started to do a revision. My fingers are crossed for you that they figure it out very soon. -
Anybody had or having surgery in Turkey?
ShoppGirl replied to LaLaLand's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you search Turkey there are a few posts. You could either post to those threads or send private messages to those people and they should get an email so even if they are no longer active they will see it and you may get more replies?? -
So, what did you decide to do? Hopefully you figured it out and had a great time out with your friends.

I think you sound like you are right in track. You were a lower BMI to start so your loss will be a little slower than some others on here and significantly slower than what you see on tv shows where people start at much higher weights.

Wow. I love your gas station too. I haven’t been able to find many good options around here. I thought The quest reeces were pretty yummy. I think I got them at Walmart near the protein bars. I would put them in a ziplock so I would have it with me because most times I was satisfied with only one cup. The puffs and the pop tarts I have not seen yet. I will have to check around for those. I agree that you gotta splurge sometimes and it’s better to splurge on something like that. I guess we are all different in how we manage this journey though. Thanks for the suggestions.

Lila Nicole has some great ideas about the veggies. I am sorta like you though. I like only a few veggies. I don’t mind having the same ones over though. I don’t eat a ton of variety. I eat kinda like a kid. Lol. PS those meals look yummy.

The more that I think of it, they brought me crystal light in the hospital even. I did notice that the Lemonaide burned a little as it was going down so I stayed away from that for a while though but other flavors were fine.
-
I was drinking crystal light right away Post surgery without issue. Obviously follow the advise of your surgeon because you may be different for some reason that only they understand but I would ask them if it’s okay to try it and have if you can tolorate or if it’s just a no no, period.

I don’t have any food that sit heavy or keep me full like this. I think I am the odd ball out though.
-
Yea. It could be something simple as mentioned but your team should be aware of it. They should know exactly what questions to ask to rule out any possible issues. Better to get their opinion just to be safe. Anytime I have called with a simple question the NP calls me and I haven’t even had to go in. Of course if they need to examine you that’s going to be another story.

Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?

If you have it this soon out I don’t think you will have as many issues getting revision. It’s when people all of a sudden claim to have it years out after they have regained weight that it seems to be more questionable as to whether they really have gerd or just want another surgery to lose the weight. (No I’m not saying that all those people are being dishonest it’s just that some have been and that ruins things for the rest). If you are still losing, though, why would you lie to get another surgery. Ya know? That’s just how I would look at it as a person who reviews claims. I would definitely make sure to call or see the dr and let them know everything though so there is documentation that it started early if I were you. Plus, the prescription meds were cheaper than over the counter for me and they are stronger. -
Just Home and Feel Low
ShoppGirl replied to fed-up's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you mean they aren’t soluable? You didn’t get to take your antidepressants?? I was able to take mine that next day at the hospital. They really need to figure out some solution to that. If you can’t take that pill for some reason maybe they can get in contact with your prescribing dr and give you something else. If you can’t take ANY pills I believe I have seen on here that A few come in liquid form. I know for certain that some antidepressants can be crushed (but not all so always check with dr or pharmacy). -
Surgery is around the corner
ShoppGirl replied to jesdona's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve because I have bipolar disorder and was concerned about the absorption of medication with the bypass. The dr said he recommended the sleeve because of my lower BMI but would do bypass if I wanted it. The NP said she would go with sleeve because it’s the safer choice in terms of my medications. I did not lose as much weight as I had hoped to. In all fairness the NP did warn me that sometimes with Bipolar disorder that people do not lose quite as much as those without it but I only got down to 25.7 BMI which is still technically overweight and then I gained the bounce back weight. I sometimes wonder if I had just chosen the bypass if I would have lost more and had a little easier time keeping it off. The only thing is, who is to say that I wouldn’t be one of the people who lost less with bypass as well. What if it’s not the surgery choice at all. Don’t get me wrong. I am still happy to have lost what I did lose and if I can maintain this I will be happy enough. I just don’t have much wiggle room and do wonder if I had chosen bypass if it would be different. I think it’s only human to wonder if the grass would’ve been greener on the other side. You definitely do still have time to change your mind though. They told me I was in no rush to decide all along. If I had more time to research one question I would have asked is if their patients that revised sleeve to bypass lost more after the bypass (got to a lesser weight than they had with the sleeve). I know that doesn’t 100% mean people who get bypass first will lose more than they would have with sleeve but it seems like it would be the case. They are both excellent and relatively safe options so I don’t think there is a wrong choice really. My only real advice would be to take your time until you feel confident in your choice and don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions until you are. -
I woke up from surgery with a stomach binder on. I was told that it was for my comfort and I could remove it or put it back on as desired. I didn’t have a lot of pain post op and I took it off when I got home from hospital and didn’t notice a big difference but have heard people on here say it helped them a great deal. They do sell them on Amazon but I agree with above post that you should probably ask your surgeon first.

Awesome. That time will be here before you know it.
