Have You Ever Noticed How Sometimes You Have to Eat MORE to Lose More?
ShoppGirl replied to GradyCat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yes. I have had a stressful couple days and dreaded getting on the scale cause I thought I would’ve gained and I actually lost. Weird. -
Periods (women only please)
ShoppGirl replied to Ngotsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many women have messed up periods post surgery. I had breakthrough bleeding for several weeks (on the pill but not on period days of the cycle) in the beginning and a few days out of The next couple months. It took a few months but it went back to normal. -
Lunch idea after gastric bypass
ShoppGirl replied to Jennifer ortiz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
What stage are you on? When you get to regular foods I always grab a lunchable or P3 protein pack when heading out of the house but a protein shake isn’t a bad idea if you are not to soft or regular foods yet. -
Congratulations. 🎉

Yea I assumed it was the correct weight and based my calculations on that but since it’s the first time I bought those I was 100% sure. I mean it’s a machine and they do short you. Not often but sometimes. I know I have been shorted on other things like Oreos in the past where it was definitely obvious some were missing. I guess I could have got out my kitchen scale and weighed it to figure out the servings too but I did it the hard way. Lol

I think the labels are deceptive sometimes. The cauliflower “wings” are like that too. I got them for a treat and it said a serving was about 4 pieces and there are 3.5 servings (so there should be 14 pieces right) but there were only 9 pieces which left me with pencil and paper for a while trying to figure out what I ate calorie wise. I still am not sure if they just shorted me or if it was because the pieces were bigger but I recalculated as if there were still 3.5 servings in there.

2 pounds down after 30 pound regain
ShoppGirl replied to ElseeGee181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Awesome start. Keep it up. -
I don’t remember the specifics but I had several stalls along the way. If you are sticking with your plan you will start losing again.

Speed of eating - does it really matter when you know your limit??
ShoppGirl replied to Spinoza's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am able to eat fast too without any pin or issues. I Just make sure it’s the same portion of foods that I have had before and I have been okay. I always eat slowly when having something new. I do try to slow down because I know that a meal will be more satisfying if it lasts longer but it is just a challenge I don’t seem to win. -
Should I Sleeve if I am NOT A BIG EATER?
ShoppGirl replied to sleevenaive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve and Because I have always been able to eat more at every given stage than I was expected to I have not used the restriction portion of the surgery and I have still been successful so far. I have to measure my food but with the decreased hunger I am able to do that and be satisfied with the smaller portions. -
First Appointment Jitters
ShoppGirl replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its honestly not an interview, your medical history will speak for itself as to whether you need the surgery since it is a medical decision. I was nervous too so I get it but try to relax. Maybe come prepared with some questions you have for them so if you feel yourself getting worked up you can ask them to do the talking for a bit. -
I had issues with shakes tasting too sweet early on too. It has caffeine so follow your teams rules on that but if your allowed it and like coffee flavor the premiere protein caffe latte was the only one I could tolorate the taste of.

I would assume the others are on the right track. The water would just dilute the nutrients from the food and leave less room for the nutritious food.

(9 days post-op) I'm in crisis and overwhelmed
ShoppGirl replied to CowboyKurt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you show signs of dehydration contact your team and they should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an outpatient. I didn’t have to go to the ER to get fluids. -
Did your comorbidities go away after surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to ClareLynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My only issue was joint pain and that has eased up quite a bit with the weight loss. I wouldn’t lose hope quite yet though, you still have a little ways to go until goal so you may still see relief from some of those conditions. Hopefully all. I do see a lot of people on here saying that those types of things did resolve with post surgery. I just don’t know how close to goal they were when it happened. -
Everyone’s preop diet is different. Mine was low fat carb sugar for two weeks and two days liquid and that was hard enough. Some people have to do several weeks liquid. I would just count your blessings if I were you.

My Face Is Broken!
ShoppGirl replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome. Good for you. -
Gradycat said it. The one thing I am happy about with sleeve is that My labs are good vitamin wise with only a multivitamin and Calcium at 10 months out. I am hoping I will be able to get off the vitamins alltogether once I reach maintenance. With bypass people tend to need more vitamins.

What were some of the first solid foods you tried?
ShoppGirl replied to LoriM13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Scrambled eggs and grilled fish were my first couple of things I tried on soft foods. Then I needed fiber because I was constipated and NP said to oversteam veggies and I had a lot of broccoli and zucchini as snacks. The broccoli you have to cut all the stems off at first but shortly after I was eating the smaller stems without issue. -
Anyone cheated on pre op diet prior to their surgery?
ShoppGirl replied to Tonib91's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn’t cheat but my pre op diet was a little easier than most it was meat and low carb veggies plus I had free foods like jello, lettuce and pickles (had a few pickle salads though, lol). I have heard of people that did and they were okay but I would try not to anymore. Post op, assuming no real hunger pains it is a little easier so you just have to get through these next few days. You can do it. Just think about all the reasons why you want this surgery and when you want to eat read threads on here such as “weirdest non scale victories” or “what is your why” (I think that’s it) to remind you of all the changes you are working towards. -

They have these sponge things they call lollipops that they can soak in water and give you. I did not get them personally but my grandma has a hernia and couldn’t have water and she got them and ice chips. Also, chapstick comes in handy. -
I would see a doctor asap. I’m sure there are things you can do to reduce the risks but the sooner the better. If you have a hard time getting in, see if your surgeons office can help.

Can’t stop thinking about eating!
ShoppGirl replied to ValerieWest's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just have to get through a few more days of this and most likely you won’t feel hunger for quite some time (a small percentage do). You just have to do whatever it takes to distract yourself and keep thinking of the end goal. You can do this. -
I picked two goals. One that was a weight I remembered feeling confident enough to go out and do things such as bowling league which was 180 and then 160 which is a few pounds below a “normal” BMI for me. I got to 180 fairly easily but now I am stuck at 169 and having a hard time losing. Still, even if I don’t get to 160 I feel the surgery was a success if I can maintain below 180. If I do start losing again at a steady rate I will shoot for 150 so I have a better cushion within the normal BMI range. So basically I suggest having a couple or even a few goals and adjusting as you get closer to each.
