    Back to ER

Clarelynn, my thoughts are with you. Hopefully the fluids helped and it’s something simple that you are on the mend already.
  2. It varies from person to person how much time you will have to wait to avoid any pain. I actually can eat pretty fast without pain but try not to. It is better to eat slow to feel satisfied with the tiny meal you are eating. It’s most important that you chew well. In the beginning I used the clock and waited one minute between bites. Some people on here have said they waited five minutes. But, In the beginning I say go as slow as you can. Better safe than sorry. Many people have to eat much slower than they did pre surgery or they regret it. Your body will tell you though. I think the main reason for this is so you don’t overeat so if I find myself having eaten faster than I should I take a break to let my full feeling catch up and then go back to my food if I am still hungry. Usually I realize I was actually satisfied already. It’s best to measure our food to track it, but I find it’s also important to measure it so that i don’t overeat in cases like this.
  3. How far are you in the process? Meaning have you decided which surgery you want? Do you have any medical issues which may dictate which surgery is best?? I have bipolar which made the sleeve more ideal for me but I wanted bypass because of the greater weight loss statistics so that’s what I spent most of my time talking about. But you may ask how many of these surgeries he/she has done and their success rates? What to expect after surgery? If work applies how much time you will need to take off your particular job? Whether you can or are expected to lose weight on your program before your pre op diet?? They should also have their own list of things to go over with you that they think are important for you to know.
  4. My aunt keeps sending me photos of how big I was a year and two years ago saying look what came up on my memories I had to show you. I know she means it to say congratulations on your success but part of me doesn’t feel that way. Part of me is like what we’re you saying then if you think I was so huge and gross before. And a small part thinks what if I am one of the people that gains it all back and I am that big again what will you say then. Am I just being too sensitive and not just accepting the compliment or what. Idk if I am explaining how I feel exactly right but I wonder if anyone else has felt similar??
  5. they had me wear a patch that worked for a day or two and I didn’t get nauseous and I usually do post surgery. Maybe you could ask for those.

Gastric bypass surgery, here i come

I had the sleeve and I was nervous as well but it was a fairly easy surgery compared to the others I have had. I am 8 I’m the post op now and 10 pounds from goal. Best decision I ever made.

47 years, Time to Grow Up...

Thank you for sharing. You are on the path to continue to be there for your wife and family for many years to come.
  8. It gets a little better each day. Do you have anti nausea meds? If not contact your team. Those should help.

    Falling off

Well first of all your tool is still there it’s not too late. I have heard people who continue to lose up to two years post op. I would say just go back to portioning everything and counting calories and you will be back on track. You’ve got this.

    Post-Op Hunger Pangs?

I have heard people on here say that what they thought was hunger turned out to be heartburn? Most of us lose our hunger but there are the rare few that did not. I would work with your team though to try to narrow it down.

    Pasta

It would depend on your stage and your clinic. If you are on regular food it is not the best choice but my team does not have any food that is forbidden so yes I have had pasta. There is basically no nutrition in it though and it’s higher calories so it should not be a routine thing. Also, some people do not tolerate it well. It expands and sits heavy so make sure you try very small amounts at first and wait to see how your body reacts to it. For pasta cravings, I found a cauliflower pasta at Walmart in the frozen section that tastes almost like the real thing. Consider trying that instead.
  12. I am 8.5 months post op and my weight loss has slowed to a very slow crawl so I know what you mean. I am about ten pounds from goal still but my goal is at the high end of normal so I figured I could reach that fairly easy and readjust from there. I do not do a lot of exercise aside from walking. I think to lose much more I may have to add in some actual cardio. Perhaps you will too.

    Vsg 1st Feb

I was asked if I wanted to pay my portion when the hospital called to go over my pre surgery instructions.
  14. I changed one of my medications about two months before surgery because I was on a medication (Latuda) that you had to eat 350 with it for it to properly absorb but there are very few medications that work that way so you should be fine. I haven’t had to make any other changes post surgery.
  15. There is something to be said about the bra thing. I know you said you are buying them at intervals but for others who may be reading this. I got new bras the other day and I only went down one size in the band and one cup size but man did the new bras make a huge difference in my posture and upper back pain. Invest in properly fitting bras ladies, your back will thank you.

    Day 3...figuring it out

I have issues with this too. My husband has to remind me to slow down. He makes a joke and says no one is going to take your food. Lol. It’s really hard to slow down though. Thankfully for me it doesn’t cause pain to eat fast. I just want to slow down so I feel more satisfied with my little bit of food. Perhaps if your alone you could set a timer to go off ever so often as a reminder to slow down.

    Carbs after surgery

The cauliflower rice is not bad if it’s mixed in with other things. They have it at Walmart both frozen and in the microwaveable pouches or of course you can make your own if you want big batches. I am 8 months out and I do eat real rice on occasion but I always try to limit it to a half cup serving and even that I don’t finish in one serving because I am eating it with something like kabobs usually. I just limit it cause Pasta and rice will sneak up on you. They swell up and hot you like a ton of bricks. I have a recipe for Mexican cauliflower rice bowl that is super good. I just tried to find it and there are so many that I couldn’t Fond the exact one I have but if you Google it I’m sure you will see one that looks good to you.

    Do hiccups mean anything?

I know this is controversial but the nurse practitioner at my practice says that there is a lot of research correlating diet soda with weight gain. They can’t figure out the exact relationship. They just know that they are related. Just a heads up if you start gaining and don’t know why it could be the culprit. They told me that medically I can have soda but they recommend that I do not.

    cottage cheese

I do not like cottage cheese but if you like savory you could maybe add some ranch seasoning to it?? I add that to plain Greek yogurt and it’s a great dip for veggies but while I was on earlier stages I would just eat a teaspoonful to have something savory.

    Ramen Noodles

If you mean calorie wise no you haven’t blown it all or anything like that. I am 8 months out and have had pizza, pasta, bread and even chocolate. I only had them once to see if I could tolorate them but I did have them and it didn’t blow anything. I am about ten pounds from goal right now. Obviously you don’t want to have them everyday for a prolonged period of time but the serving size you are eating right now is so small anyways that the calories are restricted by that.

    Nervous

I have posted this a few times but perhaps it will help. After my surgery my surgeon told both my husband and later myself how easy it was to do you surgery because I did so well on the liver shrink diet. Well I had very little pain post op. Not even gas pain. It could be total coincidence but I like to think they didn’t have to pump me full of gas and they didn’t have to bruise me moving things around because I did so well on my pre op diet that my liver was out of his way??

Got my surgery date! Suddenly scared...

It’s very common to start to feel anxious when you get a surgery date or a few days before surgery. Just means you are aware that this is a major surgery and you are not taking it lightly which is a good thing.

    Water tricks

I learned to sip sip on the water while I am planning and cooking meals (I can drink right up till I eat but 30 minutes before If need be). I wouldn’t really feel thirsty then but if I don’t drink I will feel thirsty after I eat while I am waiting the 30 minutes. Plus it’s just another couple sips that adds up.
