Issues after surgery! Kinda regretting it
ShoppGirl replied to Sweetiepie85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ooh good. I have heard others on here suggest going back to the previous stage of food to see if that goes down better. Hopefully your doctor calls back soon though. -
Issues after surgery! Kinda regretting it
ShoppGirl replied to Sweetiepie85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Feeling better then getting worse doesn’t sound normal. Have you contacted your surgeon? -
If I were you I would skip The vitamin for a couplE days to see if stool returns to normal.

No Pre-OP Diet?
ShoppGirl replied to Slimming_Santos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are others out there who didn’t have to do a pre op. Some did one on their own. You could use that time to detox from sugar and carbs and make it that much easier on yourself post surgery. -
Psychological evaluation
ShoppGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If they were not already overbooked and needed work I would agree that they may be tempted to keep you coming back but they make quite a bit more money on the initial assessment than follow ups. Money wise it’s in their best interest to see you once and send you on your way. I have been on these boards for 8 months now and I have heard of very few people who had more than the one session before being cleared. -
Psychological evaluation
ShoppGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lol. It’s not really a pass/ fail type thing. If they do find an issue then they work with you until the issue is resolved or stable and then you get the surgery. Even mental illnesses like bipolar disorder which used to disqualify you from the surgery do not anymore as long as they are being treated and you are stable. -
Psychological evaluation
ShoppGirl replied to liveaboard15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The purpose of the psychological assessment is to find any undiagnosed mental illness, substance abuse or eating disorders that may make you unsuccessful or even endanger your health post surgery. The MMPI is a very reputable tool to help with that assessment. It’s unfortunate that your clinic doesn’t have a handful of doctors that they use but if they are requiring one that uses the MMPI it sounds like they are trying to make sure the assessment is not a waste of your time and money. My psychological assessment was a joke I did not do any written testing and the talking portion of the assessment lasted about five minutes. They did not even ask me anything about my eating habits or expectations from the surgery. Post surgery I learned that I have issues of emotional and boredom eating that I wish someone had picked up on Prior to surgery. I am slowly losing the weight but I worry if I don’t get to the root of those issues soon that I will be one of those who Regain. I would probably be frustrated about the three months too but in my opinion your team is looking out for you by making sure the doctor they use Does a thorough evaluation. If it were me I would ask them if they have a cancellation list or if you can call ever so often to see if they have any new openings. -
Week 5 Post Gastric Sleeve and Struggling
ShoppGirl replied to Jenn5120's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try mixing the crystal light flavors or mix it with more water than it calls for. You can test this by just adding more water to half a glass of it so you don’t waste a whole packet. Also if you mix a gallon it takes two packets normally so you can mix two different flavors. I like the fruit punch but it’s too sweet but not sweet enough if I mix with more water so I mix fruit punch packet with the more mild watermelon one that’s Walmart brand and it’s just right. I sound like Goldilocks lol. -

Any pre op Hair and Skin Prep tips
ShoppGirl replied to Jessica1024's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 42, 5’8” started at 235, currently 169 and losing and I do not have any loose Skin nor did I lose any hair yet and I am almost 9 months out. I was very lucky in recovery and i was able to get my protein in from day one (i think that helped with the hair) I imagine if I get too much smaller I may still get some loose skin but like catwoman said it should not be extreme. My NP said just not to expect to have a six pack. Fingers crossed. I think that’s really all we can do. -
On the go measuring devices
ShoppGirl replied to Jessica1024's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is a cheaper set. BRIGHTFROM Measuring Cups, Set of 4, Colored https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08S7QDHYB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_17HT8W4KYA77V7WXP0EY -
Don’t stock up with too much stuff pre up though, our tastes can change. Especially for sweet stuff like protein shakes. Those shakes I loved pre surgery tasted disgusting afterwards.

How to tell close friends I'm getting WLS?
ShoppGirl replied to Elsiegirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
When I told my best friend I just blurted it out. She is obese too and has struggled with weight since I met her so she gets it. I understand it’s not that easy since you already mentioned the hernia repair but hopefully you can explain that to her just as you did to us. That you didn’t know her that well back then and just didn’t feel comfortable sharing yet but now you want her to know everything. And I wouldn’t think as your roommate and friend that she would have a problem knowing more personal stuff about you than your other coworkers. She probably already does. -
On the go measuring devices
ShoppGirl replied to Jessica1024's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was waiting for an appointment and I was bored so I did some shopping around. Something like These cups may be good. You probably could fit them in a ziplock to bring home. Silicone Whisk - Collapsible Measuring Cups and Spoons - Baking Spatula - 10 Piece Set - Cooking Kitchen Utensils https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075K49D54/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SSV8B4GK24RR0QBZ1R12?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 -
I have been able to eat more than I was expected to at any given phase and I was worried I was doing something wrong. The NP said that the ideal is to get close to a normal serving (possibly a little less for some) at some point without eating past full and that some people get there faster than others. I measured my food so that I was eating what was expected at the earlier stages and now at almost 9 months I stop just shy of one serving. I have lost slowly but steadily and am now 9 pounds from goal. Just stick to the plan and your weight should come off.

“Real” food vs Bariatric foods
ShoppGirl replied to csrouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am not quite a year out but I am able to eat about one serving now so I am able to get my protein from food and one protein shake for breakfast. -
On the go measuring devices
ShoppGirl replied to Jessica1024's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don’t really go out to eat but I did have disposable cups that were I think 3.5 oz if I remember correctly that worked well to measure food. They also had two ounce ones. I ordered on Amazon. Those would be good cause you wouldn’t have to bring it home with food on it. Depending on what stage you are at they have all Different size cups. -
Sleeve vs Bypass concerns
ShoppGirl replied to ht1976's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Idk about the exact times but yes the sleeve is much quicker however statistically there are also slightly fewer risks. That’s why many doctors prefer it to bypass will all other things being equal. Now, whether they should make the same amount of money is another question entirely. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

I know exactly what you mean. We are football fans and I had to buy the mens jerseys cause the cute womens ones didn’t fit anymore. I am excited to be able to wear them again. -
Gastric Bypass 20+ yrs ago problems…
ShoppGirl replied to Jodyco's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The protein supplements are good for now but I agree with minigastricbypassdude that you should see someone because clearly there is something going on that needs treatment. I would see a bariatric surgeon if possible. It would seem that if you are losing hair in the last few months that you have been getting more protein than you are getting now over the last 20 plus years?? Did something change? A good question for the doctor. -
I had lost weight when I got home from the hospital. Not everyone does though. The fluids can disguise any loss but I think after a week or two pretty much everyone starts losing.

Dear World...I have a superpower!
ShoppGirl replied to AnotherGuy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It does feel like a superpower sometimes. Compared to the past trying to get through the holidays on a diet it does feel surreal to be able to skip over most of the goodies and have a small portion of my favorites and not feel deprived. -
How spicy do you eat?
ShoppGirl replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never did eat food that was really spicy but I can tolerate the same spice level as I could pre surgery. I didn’t try it till about three months out. -
Questions to ask in initial consult
ShoppGirl replied to Hopeful_Gal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good question. Sleevers tend to have less issues with medication absorption overall but it depends on the way each Med is absorbed. I just kept my list with me for like a week and had so many questions it took a few appointments to get through all of them. The good news was I had to do the check ins anyways for my insurance so at least it made it feel like less of a waste of time.
