  1. So I am 2 days posy op, I just weighed myself and I am like 8 lbs heavier than when I WENT IN TO SURGERY! How is that even possible? Is it all the bloating and gas? Day 1 in hospital I ate a quarter of a jello, 3 tablespoons of chicken broth, 2 protein shakes, a tablespoon on refried beans and a tablespoon of pureed turkey. At home I had a half of a jello, 4 tablespoons of soup. Today I havent eaten anything. Really what the hell!? Is this normal???
  2. 🙇‍♀️thank you so much for explaining, I was literally freaking out over here. I will avoid the scale until my 2 wk appointment. Thank you so much!
  3. That is awesome!! Ok I am going to have to just resist the scale for a bit. Thank you!
  4. I had Gastric Bypass on 3/25/2021. I came home yesterday evening. I was shocked at the amount of post op meds I have to take and some are for over 90 days! The most daunting med is the shot to prevent blood clots. Thank god for my loving and supportive hubby, he really came in clutch and offered to give me the shots (2x a day mind you). Anyone else blown away by having 9 post op meds added to existing meds and vitamins?
  5. I am so sorry you had to go through this. My older sister told me up until literally the day of surgery that I dont need surgery, I am just fine. Regardless of the fact that I had A stroke at 35 yrs old and have kidney damage from my high blood pressure which I only have because of my weight. Despite having been on every fad diet since I was 12 years old. She knows has seen me, has even done some diets with me, but I dont need to have surgery. I have come to realize that OFTEN the people in our lives like us in our "place" when they see us pushing for more, to be healthier. To be happier. It makes them jealous but more it makes them look at themselves and they cant make the same excusses because they now KNOW there is a way to make a change and they either dont want to take the steps necessary or they dont care. I am almost 2 days post op, my husband told me while I was in surgery my best friend called him. They chatted and she was kind of freaking out saying "She will be littler than I am! That is not ok!" All because I told her that I set 3 goals for my self, with the final goal being at 150lbs. She is 155lb and basically tiod my husband she doesnt want me be thinner than she is. 🤯 I was actually not surprised since she has been trying to tell me what my goals should be and not to use the word restrictions and to not add in exercise. I know she loves me but I also know she like eveyone else has me in a particular role. Which doesnt include being healthy enough to have adventures. Typically, my BF, her husband, my older kids and my husband do the adventures, I sit on the sidelines with my bfs son and nore recently with my baby. I have told her very straight forward that I am planning to be active so I wont be on the sidelines anymore. She will have to figure out how to enjoy adventures with her 4 year old this year. You are making amazing choices for your own health and wellbeing. Your friends will either get on board or its time to find people who will be on your team 100%. It is heartbreaking to lose friends you truly love because they do not value you for you instead of how you lift them up and make them feel. Keep working hard at this, your goals, your health is what is important! Sorry for the long winded response I think this hit a personal nerve.
  6. I was watching a nutrition video by a Bariatric surgeon and he stated that if you are going to add in exercise and or weight lifting then you need more calories. Otherwise our bodies think we are starving and start to eat muscle not the stored fat first. If you are concerned I would honestly ask your surgeon for their input and schedule another appointment with the nutritionist. I was told 6 wks of no grains, no red meat, no shellfish or raw fish, no starchy veggies and no raw veggies, no butters or seeds and no fruit with seeds or skins. Basically the only fruit they recommended were canned pears, canned peaches or a banana. We were also advised to drink only water, no juices, no additives. With a minimum of 1 protein shake per day. I am 1 day out from surgery and on the pureed/liquid stage for the next 2 weeks. Let us know how your plan is progressing.
  7. I was taking lisinopril and they had me stop 1 days before surgery and I had to stop another med hydraclorathizid. My surgeon said you can not take lisinopril because it dehydrates you. I am still taking 1 other med for blood pressure. But hoping to come off that with in the first 90 days or so. I am only 1 day out from surgery so i am really excited to see how this all goes.

    Any March Surgeries?

I had my surgery (Gastric Bypass) yesterday so far recovery is ok, i have been moved up to pureed diet, still in hospital but hoping to get out this afternoon. Biggest problem has been managing pain closely. But i think we got it taken care of now. I have been walking and it is so true it does help the gas pain. Fingers crossed I get to go home tonight🤞🤞🤞
  9. I am coming up fast on my surgery, 3 days and counting. So I am attempting to food prep for recovery since I have 4 children ramging in age from 11 months to 12 years old., my hubby will have his hands full trying to take over as Mr Mom while I recover for the first 2 weeks. I am hoping to have easy recovery meals planned out for me so all he has to do is microwave them for me or I can just throw them together easily. I am planning so far on mostly pureed soups but mostly because I cant think of other things that appeal to me. Blending eggs is just not something I am going to be able to do. I dont eat fish, canned chicken, eggs, greek yogurt, cottage cheese or tuna. In the nutrition class that was almost all the recommended things. 🤦‍♀️ I have tried since october to be get use to cottage cheese, greek yogurt and canned chicken. But I havent been able to stomach any of it. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Any March Surgeries?

So glad it went well and the pain is manageable. Let us know how things are progressing!
  15. This is about where I am starting with my surgery weight. My surgery is 3/25/2021. Can I ask how long it took to get where you are now ? I am so excited for this change but I am also extremly anxious and really want to set realistic expectations. I see some people down 70+lbs in just under 4 weeks and other under 12 weeks. I feel like I have so far to go to hit my goal weight of 170lb. I am currently on the preop diet at 350lb and hoping to drop down to 345 before the surgery. But after getting some great advice on thia forum I am trying not to stress and let the surgery do its job. Any advice or guidance from your experience would be a greatly appreciated 💞

  17. So I have 11 days left until my surgery woot woot! But I have set a goal to lose 15 more lbs before surgery so I have started working out again now that I have some energy again. But I am finding it is making me very hungry. Is this normal? Will it go away after a few days? Or should I not be working out? I dont want to sabotage myself but I really want to hit my goal. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
  18. 🤔that is a lot to take in, but you are right. Thank you for helping me, I appreciate all your information. Im 10 days away from surgery, I guess I will have to drop my expectations and just stay on track with the diet and go with it. Thank you so much
  19. Great advice thank you so much!
  20. My surgeon has me on a 800 to 1200 calorie preop diet. My surgery is 10 days now. I was staying at 800 calories during the 1st 2 weeks but since I have started hitti g 14,000 steps per day and burning 2800 calories per day I have come closer to 1200 calories because I am hungry. The preop diet is like this: 1st meal protein shake 2 to 3 hrs: later a cup of fruit or vegetables 2nd meal: protein shake 2 to 3 hrs: later cup of fruit or vegetablea 3rd meal: 3oz chicken or turkey, 1 serving of whole grains, 1 cup of vegetables. Snack: 1 serving low fat dairy Keeping in 800 to 1200 calories.

  22. I feel the same way, although we have been together for 21 years. But we have a 11 month old and 3 older kiddos who need my hubby to come home to be with them that night. Thank God my aubt is willing to watch the kids until ge gets back, I told him he can leave me after I have eaten dinner, used the bathroom and been given pain meds 🤣. I am planning on having him return by 9am the next morning to be with me until they release me which I hear is by about 1pm. One night wont be too bad. But I would have loved if he cohld have just stayed with me all night, I do not want nurses near me very much. I am sorry you have to push through this. But we are resilient strong women and we will make it through this! Good luck on your surgery 👍

    Low CO2 Levels

My surgeon has said that it is common for co2 levels to be low before and after surgery. It can be a major concern post op because of co2 poisoning. He therefore recommends to have patients get a sleep apnea test and if necessary get a cpap for post op. Doesnt sound like your situation needed it but I just wanted to let you know that was a discussion with my surgeon.

    Any March Surgeries?

I staryed in September, and am scheduled for surgery 3/25/2021 I just got my insurance approval in the mail so we are full steam ahead 11 days to go. I totally feel what you are feeling, scared and nervously awaiting surgery. I was feeling very tired but I started walking and that has helped. I have lost 13lbs in the last 2 weeks. I have set myself a personal goal of losing 15 more lbs while on the preop diet. I am not on a full liquid diet so i dont think i will.loose as much as those on the full liquid diet. Which makes me anxious.
