    Hii everyonee

hey! im in a similar situation to you, im 22 years old, and am in canada, so im a self-pay patient. so although i dont have to deal with insurance, its been quite a journey trying to get the ball rolling.. ive dealt with a family doctor who just doesnt listen, and ive been sent twice to consultations with doctors who dont deal with the lap band.. anyways to make a long story short, after 10 months of trying for this im currently waiting on my appointment with the anethstesiologist, and then if all goes well i'll get a date! i think its tough for younger people to go through the process of being banded.. because i think we are often discredited based on our age. I know for me, ive been dieting since i was 8 years old.. and i fear for my future. even at 22 i can honestly say this is not a vanity thing, i want one day to be able to have children, and my fertility is compromised with PCOS, and im borderline diabetic. i need to get this under control and i need to do it now. just know that you are not alone, and the waiting is so hard, but it will happen for us if we dont give up. good luck on your journey!

    yet another newcomer!

hi bikinibeachy, and thanks to you and everyone for the replies. im not very good at posting regularly, but im awesome when it comes to lurking! things are progressing slowly but surely. at first my family doctor referred me to a rny surgeon, who really pushed gastric by-pass on me even though i've got a relatively low bmi.. so anyway that put me back to the drawing board and i finally had a consultation with my surgeon of choice about a week and a half ago. since i'm self-pay, he cleared me for the surgery and now im waiting on an appointment with the anesthesiologist, and then i should have a date! im really pretty excited about it, but also a little wary. it seems like ive been gunning for this for sooo long that the thought of it actually happening seems a little too good to be true. thanks mostly to LBT i feel like im as prepared and as informed as i can be.. so i'll keep my fingers crossed. thanks again for the inquiry beachy, ive been watching your progress and congrats on being FINALLY banded.

    Hello from the Big Guy

hey there, im in surrey, havent been banded yet, but im waiting for my date. who was your surgeon?
  8. I would love to be buddies! How much weight do you want to lose?

  9. hello there! i just saw your post in a thread stating that you were looking for a buddy. im 22 years old and am still in the beginning proccess of getting the band. i have a low bmi to begin with, so i dont know if you'd want to be band buddies, but definitely give me a shout back if youre interested! thanks a lot, kristen

  10. and then there's me. this question hits close to home for me because it is something that i've had to ask myself many many times in the past 5 months. i am 5'5" and 200 lbs. average height, and a bmi of 33.3. i am 22 years old. i realize to some of you that this might seem laughable, and i honestly dont even know how i feel about that. with that said: I have been overweight my whole life. I carry nearly all of my weight around my stomach. my waist circumference is 45". I have PCOS and am "pre-diabetic". this is not a vanity thing, its a quality of life thing. i am scared to death of full blown diabetes and the thought of never being able to have children terrifies me. ive been dieting since i was eight years old.. I will be self-pay.. was this post pointless? i dont know.. but please don't judge. everyone has a story, and whether 200lbs or 500lbs, we're all here for the same reason.. to try to live our lives in the best way possible. good luck
  11. hey there - you look amazing! im 22 years old and just starting the lap-band journey.. well actually ive been trying to get the ball rolling for about 5 months now, but its already been quite the process.. when did you get banded and what has been your over-all experience (if you dont mind me asking)

  12. Hello everyone, Im a 22 year old female from vancouver, BC. Ive been researching the lap band procedure and lurking on this site for about three months now. I technically have a "low" bmi for this procedure, yet i feel that i am at the end of my rope. im 5"5' and 205 lbs.. a bmi of approx. 35. I would be self-pay, and just got a refferral to see my surgeon from my reluctant family doctor. Im not even sure if he's familliar with the lap band surgery, as he was spouting off awful complications that sound a lot like the complications associated with gastric bypass, rather than lapband. I'm looking for some stories here.. what made you decide to get banded? how was the process? anything you didnt expect? id like to hear the good and bad, so please dont hold back! i look forward to connecting with people like me! thanks so much, kristen.
