    A new surgery date

Exciting! Good luck! we are here for support for you!
  2. I have not been sleeved yet but I certainly would call your surgeon and tell him / her what is going on with you. This might be from throwing up so much that you might be swollen but better they know what is going on with you especially since you can't get anything down. I hope you feel better soon.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Some surgeons want to see an A1c in control (7 or under) and some surgeons see it as additional proof that the surgery is needed. The issue with an A1c being very high is that it will hinder your ability to heal faster after the surgery. My previous surgeon wanted my A1c under 7 but my current surgeon doesn't look at A1c because he realizes that some patients are just going to be unable to get their numbers low enough - especially that is takes 3 months to see movement in A1c results. Whatever it is, it is. Your surgeon will guide you and hopefully after the surgery your numbers will improve drastically. Good luck - I know the dreaded A1c waiting for results feeling.
  4. This exactly. The more informed you are - the better off you are. The surgeons will make you sign "In the event my insurance does not cover a procedure, I agree to pay". The surgeons office is a great tool and yes they will assist in many ways but IMO it is always better to be informed.
  5. Just curious - what are the restrictions to taking pills after surgery? I keep hearing about crushing or powered form but what if you are on a med that needs to be taken whole?

Loose Skin? Lap Band Success Stories?

You may want to consider different surgery and even a different center. I had my lap band put in at NYU Langone and it was a drive through process (same for husband, sister in law and brother in law). They didn't really care - they just needed to check the boxes. When my band slipped, the Dr that did my surgery couldn't have cared less. She just left me in the hospital not being able to even swallow water. I went ot a different surgeon for removal. Good luck but please do your homework first. I should add that the loose skin is from weight loss and not a particular surgery. You are young and that is on your side with the elasticity of your skin

New to this forum. Don't know where to turn.

This - I had my and removed (I was pregnant with quadruplets so it was removal and get me out of the OR). I went back to the same dr that took it out for me to start the journey for bypass or sleeve and the practice changed. I never felt comfortable there and delayed and delayed. We have since moved to another state and I found a practice that I feel comfortable with and am finally moving forward. The 6 month wait thing is very common from the insurances by the way. Good luck

    Lap-Band Removal

I had a lap band in for 4 years when it slipped and I had to have it removed while 20 weeks pregnant with quadruplets. The surgery was relatively easy for me and I was up and walking within a few hours. I was miserable with the band the whole 4 years I had it. I thought it was me but the dr that removed it said he would have never recommended it for me.
  9. I would also call your insurance company to find out what they cover and what their requirements are. Some insurance companies require documentation from your doctor that you tried other weight loss techniques. I would think your primary care doctor would be supportive but even if he or she isn't, you will want the records of the history of your weight. Good luck!

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

You will be! I was in a similar situation with my BMI and my meds (all the same as you) and I had a lap band put in. I was off almost all my meds - it was amazing. I lost over a hundred pounds and kept it off for years until my band slipped and was removed and then it was all back on and more.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

yay for insurance approval. Now I am getting nervous because my doctors office has said nothing about my insurance although the nurse manager verbally said I was good to go - I would like it in writing cause I don;t trust them one bit.

Hopefully they can get you scheduled! Sorry you are out of pocket - that is terrible but you will probably be saying it was money well spent. I had a number of procedures to have a baby that were all out of pocket and I don't regret a thing.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Oh Wow - Together on the same day! G-d willing, I will be two days ahead of you.
  18. Honestly, to me it sounds like she is nervous. Some people hear surgery and they worry (myself included). She just might be reacting to her fears and her what if's. Like others said, help her get more familiar with the process and she just might be more supportive. Good luck!

    Pre-op liquid diet speed bump

I think you are fine to be honest. I know many patients that never did the liquid diet at all and still had their surgery. It makes it harder on the surgeon because now they have to move a fat liver away to get to the stomach but this won't be your case - you have been compliant. Go easy on yourself. You are fine.
