  1. Hi - I am new to the site. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for March 10th. Anyone else here set for March? I am super anxious but also looking forward to it. I had a lap band in 2009 and a slip in 2014 that required removal. Curious as to what your pre-op diet looks like. I am on partial liquids now and full liquids for two weeks before the surgery. Nice to meet everyone!

    Covid vaccine

I did and wished I waited just a bit longer (I was about 3 weeks out). I was horribly nauseous and ended up throwing up quite a bit. I was nervous the whole time that I was going to hurt my stomach. I would have waited another few weeks if I had to do it over again.

    Hospital Bag

This pretty much except I brought extra underwear - which I am glad I did because I had a bathroom issue right after surgery. The nurse told me that about 25% of patients have a loose bowel movement after surgery.

Pants vs. dress right after surgery

I wore pants and was fine - they were Yoga pants and were not that loose to be honest and i was still fine.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

OMG - May I ask was it something you ate that you shouldn't have? or was it the opening of your stomach was small? That must have been so scary - I am sorry you went through that.

My surgeons office said it was very normal. It can be as early as 2 weeks or as later but apparently 3rd week is super common.

I was sleeved the same day as you and am in the same boat! I stepped on the scale and was like what is going on? Apparently it is a common time for a stall and it is perfectly normal.

@njlimmerI picked it based on how I did with the lap band I had in years ago. Honestly though, I think your goal weight is much more realistic for me. My bones are big (not a small frame at all) and to get down to that weight made me end up in the hospital. I just put that number down but would honestly be very happy getting to 170 - 180. I think I look good at 170. My docs asked for a goal weight and I just through out 150 and when they didn't react - I thought OK must be a good one lol Its not set in stone for me.

Awww I'm sorry. While I didn't have pain - I was hungry. Some say it isn't real hunger but only head hunger - that isn't true. It does pass after a few days, especially once you can start consuming more. Be good to yourself and rest up these days (as much as you can). Sending you positive vibes.

    Gee, Thanks Mom... I think...

I am sorry, that is terrible. I am hoping she didn't mean it to come out like that and hopefully she is truly happy that things are moving along for you. She could have just said "I hope everything works out" and left it at that.

How are the Marchers doing? I know we had a few coming up on the last days of March - how are you guys hanging in? The holidays are hard with this surgery (just saying). everyone around is eating yummy food and I'm like - oh no I'm great and completely full from eating an egg, thanks. At least someone toss me a damn jellybean my way lol I hope whatever holiday you guys are celebrating this week - or none at all and maybe just celebrating Spring - that you are having a great week.
  18. Wow - My nutritionist said finish eating in 30 minutes otherwise it is likely I will overeat. She said if I take too long I won't learn would full feels like because I will always be a grazer.

    pre-op: one last binge

forgive yourself and keep going. I did that - the night before I was supposed to start the liquid diet - we went out to eat at a steak place, I had apps, even desert which I never have. Its done and over now move on and don't beat yourself up over it.

How are the rest of the Marchers doing? I went a little MIA trying to recover. No pain or anything but nausea was bad for me. I am two weeks and 1 day post op and feeling really good. My stomach still makes these sounds like a cat being tortured lol I am eating a bit more now and enjoying it. I get really full, really fast so my one or two bites are enjoyable.

    High blood sugars after surgery

Same thing happened to me. Sugars were high, blood pressure was high, oxygen was low. Don't forget - your body went through a trauma. Your liver was probably kicked into high gear to spit out some glucose. Once you start drinking, your sugars will also level out - no drinking will cause a spike in sugar.

    Starting my journey

I did not have the 6 month wait at all. My policy only requires insurance approval and to speak to their nurse manager but literally nothing else. Of course they want a dr to make the case that it is medically necessary but they had zero other requirements other than to have a conversation with the health insurance nurse manager. The 6 month wait is very common in the insurance arena but I have never heard of a fast tracked one.

    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Anyone else constantly feel nauseous? Surgery was 3/10 and the thought of ay kind of food (or even shakes) makes me feel nauseous. Even soups our making me queasy. I have those nausea pills but I am not using them because it is only around food that I get sick. Water is still going down fine and even had some other drinks like tea and juice.
  24. Hello all, I had my surgery 5 days ago and was released after 1 day. My discharge from the hospital had me stop virtually all diabetes meds and drop my blood pressure meds a lot as well. Even though I am not eating much, my sugars are still elevated so I put myself back on some of my meds and I called my endocrinologist. My endo said a lot of people almost immediately don't need insulin anymore but if my sugars were high, I should cover it with insulin but test my sugars to avoid a low. Has anyone here (who has diabetes) been completely taken off your meds right after surgery? I know in time my doses will decrease and I am not looking for a magic bullet to say poof - diabetes is gone but I am curious if you have / had diabetes and how fast your sugars responded to lowering doses or eliminating the meds completely. My endo said my liver is probably spitting out glucose to replace what I am not eating but the hospital made it seem like it should have been automatic after surgery. Thanks

Funny enough - the thought of some foods make me nauseous but not all. I don't want to look at another cup of soup or shake! My kids were eating some chicken nuggets and I was like ooooohhhh that looks so good lol I don't even like chicken nuggets - or at least I didn't. I do remember being hungry in the hospital. I don't think I burped that much or even passed flatulence because I had the poop issues - coming out like liquid (TMI). Glad to hear you are doing well over all
