    Almost one week.

I definitely think that we all feel the mental hunger thing. It is very hard to be in a world where food is so emphasized and it is totally inconvienent to diet. I worked really hard on changing bad habits before the surgery. I was a complete grazer before. Now I set three meal times and 2 small Snacks, and that's it. I am on mushies and soft foods, so I feel full fast. When I have the mental hunger thing going on I picture myself buying brand new clothes in a smaller size, or I think about how great it will be to see someone I have not seen in a while and them say wow. Basically I just try to think positive and that takes my mind off food.

    Where is your port?

Mine is the same exact spot. It helps so that pants are not irratating it.

    They might deny me!!

I would be careful because some doctors will NOT do your surgery if you are gaining weight. They want to see that you can make the change, even before the surgery. There are so many medical issues that you could use for your insurance. Rashes from excess weight, high blood pressure, back problems, knee problems, etc. I am sure everything will work out for you but be careful how much weight you gain, if you are seeing a surgeon.
  4. With my preop diet I lost 20 lbs. My sugery was 11/14/08. At the end of my 2 weeks I was down 17 lbs post op. Today is three weeks and I am not sure yet if I lost, gotta do the weight check. Great job everyone:thumbup:
  5. Like what was said previous, it propbably has something to do with gas. Make sure you get up and walk, that is the only way it is going to get out. Also a heating pad may help, I never used one but from what has been said on here it helps. Again protein is importand and get gas ex strips, they do wonders.:tongue2:

    the biggest loser (7)

I felt so bad that renee went home last night. I wish Vicky did, I dislike her so much. I am hoping that michelle pulls it together and blows all of them out of the water.:smile2:
  9. My pain medicine also made me feel a little queezy. As far as the sleeping postion I still find it more comfortable to sleep in a recliner with a pillow behind me. It keels me though because I have always been someone who sleeps on their side, definitely cannot do that. Give it some time and as the days go sleeping should be a little better. Good luck.

    Also new to the site

    Good luck Harold!
  11. At least your admitting your mistake. I would make sure that I fast for the rest of your time and the doctor will let you know if you have to cancel. The reason for the preop diet is to shrink your liver, the doc might not be able to do surgery if your liver is to large. Get back on the band wagon and just hope for the best. Good luck!

    hello

Hello Greeneyedlady!!!! I'm glad to see another one of us from western ma. Dr. Haag is a very nice doctor. The 1st time I met him I thought he was great, very intelligent and obviously very educated on this surgery. I had a circumstance of kidney issues along with my obesity. He told me he wanted me to lose a couple of pounds before surgery , which I definitely expected. When I went for my preop appt (already had a date) he told me I did not lose enough. ( I had lost 5lbs) He then cancelled my surgery. I of course was very upset, mad at him, mad at myself, and obviously disappointed. I hated him at that point, because he gave me another hoop to jump through. He gave me another weight check for three weeks later and I lost 15 lbs, he then scheduled my surgery for Nov 14, and proceeded to give me another weight check for Nov 10. I went and lost 5 more lbs and he was content. Once I lost this weight he was much nicer to me, and I thought he was great. I know he wanted to make sure this surgery was safe for me but he came off as kind of arrogant. My surgery was extremely successful, he did a great job, and comforted me before the surgery the day of. If I could do it all over I would definitely have him be my doctor. He looks out for his patient's best interest and he has good bedside manner. I hope your experience with him turns out good. Keep and touch so we can compare notes, I would love to hear how your surgery goes. Best of luck. Jenny

    Pre-op diet protein shakes

You definitely want to get your Protein in so they are kinda essential at this point. Try some different shakes , there is a big variety out there. I don't think there are many people who like the shakes but we all kinda have to suck it up. I am using the no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast and it is alright, definitely better then some of the others. Good luck and remember protein, protein, protein.:cursing:

    Odd Side Effects?

I too experienced some odd symptoms after my banding. For one thing I was hot one second, then freezing the next. I then have had issues sleeping since. I finally bought melatonin last night and that seemed to help. I am sure there are many of us experiencing the same issues. Hope yours gets better.:cursing:

    Waiting final approval

Congrats on your approval. I would just say go into this knowing it is not a quick fix and you will have to work with the band. Try and relax, and enjoy the excitement of your new life. Good luck!!!:cursing:
  18. Congrats on entering bandland. As far as any advise, follow what the doc says. Bring a pillow to the hospital, the ride home you can hug it and going over the bumps won't be as bad. Make sure you try and relax tommorow, the calmer you are the easier this will be. ( I know, hard thing to do) My last word of advice is surround yourself with people who support you. This is the beginning of your new life , enjoy it. GOOD LUCK!!!!!:cursing::thumbup::blushing:

    Very frightened mom

I cannot speak for everyone but we all have feelings of fear and doubt. Yes, there are complications but hey there are complications for being overweight to. I was terrified, cried for days before. Other then some pain this has been the best experience of my life. I was banded on Nov 14 and have already lost 16 lbs, I would have never been able to have done this without the band. Good luck in whatever decision you choose.:cursing:

    Any Advice for Pre-Op Diet?

For my preop diet I did weight watchers and completely cut out soda. It worked and I lost 25 lbs in 1 1/2 months. Speak with a nutrisionist and see what kind of diet they can help you with. I also really practiced not eating and drinking at the same time and chewing A LOT!!!!!!!!! Good luck.

    Fill the port?

I was wondering if I too was the only one with this problem .lol. It does feel weird and I am told by friends who have had this that it is totally normal. I feel mine sticking out and it drives me crazy, but I am sure it will get better as the weight comes of. Good luck hunny.
  23. I was banded on 11/14 and I too am having problems with swelling. It is mostly where the port is but it makes wearing pants very uncomfortable. When do people start feeling less sore?
  24. Brockbabe82

welcome and keep up the good work.

    newbie.. kinda long

I'm sorry that you are feeling so down, all I can say is you've come to a great place to vent and be listened to. As far as your documented diets, have you ever been on weight watchers, L.A. weightloss, nutrisystem, any of those types of things? I had documentation but those were also included in the list. Although it stinks you have to be on a 6 month diet, take advantage of it, it will help you get in the mid set that you need to be in for after the surgerys done. It also might make you feel a little bit better about yourself, I know my preop diet did. Good luck and keep us posted.
