I had my surgery on December 29, 2020. I am slowly feeling better. I am on pureed diet now. I am handling that much better than the full liquids. BUT....I get the pain and contraction feelings when I eat or drink anything. It feels like my sleeve is too tight or something. My doctor and dietician says it will get better. I sure hope so because that spasm/cramping feeling is straight awful and makes me dread eating and drinking. I am not able to take in 64 ounces or enough Protein. I have began using a clear Protein Powder with no taste so that I can TRY to reach the goal...I am struggling big time with water/fluids and Protein. Yesterday, I was so thirsty and took several gulps and just dealt with the pain because I needed the Water so badly. Anyone else experiencing any of this?

Omg, sleeved on 12/31 and I have the same issues. Today was not a good day for me, sick of Water, sick of Protein Shake and just felt hungry. Every drink causes me pain and I'm sipping still. I suffered from acid reflux before surgery and I feel like it's worse not to mention I also had hiatel hernia repair. I'm just hoping things get better because mentally today was hard for me.

Amy_Aim yes darling! My pain was super sharp as soon as I came out out the operation room. At one point I peed myself cause I couldn’t get up and go to the bathroom by myself. I don’t want you to be scared cause this was mine, and yours might be different from what I felt. Say a prayer, meditate and relax. Best of luck

Hope your feeling better, I'm up early getting ready for mine. Hope all goes well.

I got sleeved on the 21st and hiatal hernia repaired as well. I believe this was the worst pain I ever felt in my entire life right after coming out the operation room. Thank God! I slept through the night, and my nurses were giving me good care at the hospital. Gas pain wasn’t tough like I see lots of people have been complaining about. Walking, walking non stop at the hospital is live saver. I wish anyone who’s gonna go for weight loss surgery best of luck. Remember! Always follow your surgeon and primary doctor instructions.

I am scheduled for tomorrow morning 8am CST, I am having both done as well. (VSG and Hiatal hernia) What exactly was the pain you experienced? And mine is outpatient so I will be going home same day. 😞

I joined this forum in hopes of finding like minded people! I’m having gastric bypass on Jan 4, 2021. Some of my emotions have been:

shame-shouldn’t I be able to do this without surgery? And will people think this is just an easy fix?

excitement- I have worked soooooo incredibly hard to get to this point.

fear- what if I am one of those who actually fail and regain my weight? What if I can’t handle the emotional rollercoaster after (this pre-op diet is no joke though!)?

identity crisis- I have been thin for maybe 2 years out of my 38 years. My weight has been an excuse for people not liking me or not being able to do things. It has been a part of me and though I have been miserable for most of these years, I am a little scared of having a new outward identity.

I could go on... can anyone relate????

OMG, we are in the same boat. I am scheduled tomorrow at 8am and sit here googling VSG forums and hoping that I do not regret it. I am so confused, nervous and everything else. Since I lost 10lbs pre - op diet I ask myself ok, why cant you continue this diet and continue loosing weight? All the What - Ifs!

I feel you, you are not alone... Sending positive vibes your way! Good luck to you..

Hi everyone! I’m a new member to the boards. I was sleeved on December 21st. I had some complications right after surgery, but I was feeling much better 24 hours later. I’m doing much better now, other than having some trouble keeping my Protein Shakes down. They don’t seem to be settling too well.

    I’m down 18 pounds since surgery on 12/21, though! 🎉 I didn’t have to do a pre-op liquid diet.

Congrats... sorry to hear about your complications but glad that your feeling better. I'm not able to hold Protein Shakes down now so I'm a bit worried.

Praying I don't have any complications. Congrats on your weight loss so far..

I know you are nervous but keep going!! I was too, but so glad I did it! 12/22 was my day, and though those first couple days feel yucky, I’m 1 week out and feel great. I’m not taking anything for pain, and I’m tolerating full liquids and purées (started yesterday). Since pre op diet I’m down 31lbs.
My newbie tips are just walk, walk, walk and get those gas pains out! Take the nausea meds they give you. They help so much. Remind yourself why you started!

Wow! 31 pounds that is amazing! I've only lost 10 during pre op. Currently down to 185...

Thank you for the tips it does help me stay somewhat calm.... Congrats on your journey...

Well, i can't say that I have any tips, but congrats to you. I will let you know that my surgery date in Jan 12th, and I'm nervous as well. I think this is normal for anyone that is getting ready to have surgery. I have had 14 prior surgeries and it doesn't get any easier. Also, I just wanted to tell that I started this journey once before and I backed out. I hadn't gotten as far as you have in the process, but I regret backing out to this day. Everyone is different, but really think about your decision. This is surgery is something that is going to help us get healthy. I know I need it so much. I can't wait to enjoy walks, and playing with my grandbaby on the floor. Its all the little things that I look forward to, as much as not having to take so much medication. I hope this is of some help, and I wish you the best of luck. Rhonda

Thank you so much, you are right! I've battled high blood pressure for 5 years and now pre diabetic stage. Just lost my mom this year at age 65 to her 3rd stroke, so this is what I'm trying to prevent... best of luck to you as well.

  8. oh my, thank you all so much for the responses. I think my fear is surgery in general yes! I am at the highest weight I have ever been my whole life and I just lost my mom this year at the age of 65. She suffered her first stroke in her 40s and went on the have 3 more. It started with stress, high blood pressure and she was diabetic. This was my wake up call and wanted to be better about my health and I have been dealing with high blood pressure for 5 years now and on 3 medications for it. I will say you all have helped to motivate me and wow you all have done an amazing job at your weight loss numbers! I look forward to updating you all on my decision and progress.. Again thank you all for your feedback!

  9. Hi there, I am scheduled for VSG on 12/31 but I am having a very hard time deciding if I want to go through with it and am a nervous wreck! I have been dealing with high blood pressure for the past 5 years and am now pre-diabetic. Just wanted to see if anyone had any regrets of getting the surgery or second guessed it in the beginning. I am 5" 2" and 195 pounds currently. (48yo)

Any advice you can give or suggestions for feeling more confident about this surgery? Any low BMI patients out there that have had the VSG and its working out just fine?
