You are going to do just fine!! And you will be so happy you did this for yourself. I am almost one year out from my bypass, and life is so much better now. I am healthy and grateful. The next couple of months will be a learning period for you, but just go easy on yourself. I tried to eat solid foods earlier than I should have, and it gave me an upset stomach every time I did, but other than that I had no problems after surgery, and I'm sure you won't either. After a couple of months, I could eat anything with no problem. Good luck, and let us know how you're doing after you get back home from surgery.

After my bypass, for about three months, I would get sick and throw up if I ate something that didn't agree with me (like meats, hot or spicy foods, fried foods). I would get an awful feeling of pressure in my stomach and then get the foamies and throw up mostly saliva. One time the foamies and throwing up lasted an entire miserable night. But now I can eat anything I like with no problem. So I wouldn't worry about your stomach turning and the foaming. It happens to a lot of us!

I had to switch one of my psych meds from extended release to immediate release after my bypass. Fortunately, I didn’t notice any difference in effectiveness after the switch.

I take the BariatricPal Multivitamin ONE Per Day chewable with 45mg Iron. I get the mixed berry flavor and it tastes good. The price is right too - $15.00 for a 30-day supply, or it's even cheaper at $40.00 for a 90-day supply.

Dinah55 got a reaction from CapK in 6 Months and Stalled
I can so relate to your post. I am seven months out from RNY and I've lost 65 pounds, but I just can't seem to get to 70! I am in a stall now too, and every morning when I weigh myself I'm a bit disappointed. But what's really bothering me is the Hair loss. I am no spring chicken and have passed menopause, so my hair was thinning out even before the surgery, but now, my hair is downright sad, it's so thin! I recently ordered a couple of wigs, and I'm actually enjoying wearing them. At least I can go out in public now without looking like a plucked chicken! But it's all been worth it, because I feel good and I'm so much healthier. I went to my doc this week and she said that if my numbers keep falling like they have been, she will take me off my blood pressure med, statin, and metformin on my next visit. Yay!

Ah, yes, the dreaded foamies! I remember them well. It happened the first time I tried a bit of solid food, which was two weeks post-op, and it kept happening after that if I ate meat, spicy food, or dry food like chicken breast. The first time I tried ground beef, I was up the entire night with the foamies. It was exhausting! So my "don't ever do this" advice is don't be in a hurry to eat hard-to-digest things like meat. Take your time, and when you do try it, eat a very small quantity and see how it settles on your tummy. I'm seven months post-op now and haven't had any problem the past few months, so the foamies are a thing of the past, thank goodness!

I was concerned about this too before my bypass. After my surgery, my doctor switched me from extended release to immediate release. It involves taking a couple more pills a day, since I now have to take divided doses, but it's no big deal. The best thing is, I haven't noticed any difference in the effectiveness, and it's been five months since my surgery.

Dinah55 got a reaction from lizonaplane in Lying about not getting surgery is awful
I struggled with the tell or don't tell issue, and finally decided to be honest with family and friends. I didn't want the stress of making up some "I'm doing keto" story or something like that. And after a lot of thought, I decided that I really don't give a flyin' flip what anybody thinks about my surgery. If they don't like it, I couldn't care less. And as it turns out, I haven't gotten any negative reactions. People have really been supportive. If they disapprove, they haven't told me to my face, so I at least haven't had to listen to negative garbage. But to each his own. I can totally understand wanting to keep it under wraps. When I was younger, I probably wouldn't have been so open about it, but I'm now at an age where I don't give a hoot what anybody thinks about me! 😉

Good luck!!! Congrats on taking this step to becoming a new, healthy, beautiful you! I am also over 60, so I am late to the game, but that's okay - we're adding quality years to our lives and we'll be able to enjoy those grandkids! 😊

    Don’t fret!
After RNY, the remnant stomach is usually left in its original place. The abdominal cavity is packed pretty tightly so nothing is just floating - unlike VSG where a some space is made by removal of part of the stomach. (Reenactment of my original VSG below )

I too switched from XR to immediate release antidepressants. I am four months post-op and have noticed no difference in the drugs' effectiveness. Also, I had no withdrawal symptoms of any kind. The only inconvenience is having to take them twice a day now instead of once a day, but that's no big deal and it's so worth it. You'll do just fine!

I was really sore too a couple of weeks post-op, and I didn't have a whole lot of energy. But each day I felt a little bit better, and now, 5 1/2 weeks post-op, I don't have any soreness at all and my energy level is back to normal. Give yourself more time, because it's still early. I bet in a couple of weeks you'll be feeling a whole lot better.

I know you're disappointed, frustrated, and probably even a little bit mad. But you can do this. It will happen. COVID has changed everybody's lives and the states are each handling the surges differently with shutting down restaurants and gyms and hair salons and now elective surgeries. Mourn the delay but hang in there and stay with your diet and be ready for the rescheduling. Don't give up.
