  1. I got my band 18 monhts ago. The current trend for my surgeon was to place the band very high at the top of the stomach leaving no pouch. Initial weight loss was good but that was when I was still going for full meal replacement. When I introduced solid food I found I could eat anything with no restriction and no sense of fullness. I've had 5 fills and have been right up to 9.5 mils where I could only swallow liquids and then only after a certain time in the morning. The last time I saw my surgeon he said I had esophageal dilatation and so have been deflated for 8 weeks. I've just had my band filled to 5 mils and I'm pretty much where I was when it was empty. Througout the fills and top-ups I have either been able to swallow or not. There is no in-between which is what I desire - a sense of fullness after eating a small portion or at least some sense of slowing down of the food process. He's offered to re-position the band for me. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm worried that if I have the band re-positioned I won't be any further ahead than I am now and although money isn't everything it would be nice to have some kind of indication that I could achieve the same sensations that my friends who also have bands talk about. Any advice gratefully received:unsure:
  2. Thanks Jaqui, I had had that thought. Logic tells me that there needs to be a pouch.
  3. I've just had a fill that is really restrictive which is great. I even struggle getting water in early in the morning. My problem is I need to take blood pressure meds and anti-inflammatories. I'm grinding them in a pestle and mortar but am barely tolerating the taste and am sure I'm bringing up more than I'm getting down. What do you suggest?

    Hello Fabulous Fourties!!!

:smile:I feel good, really good. A little tenderness around the wound sites but really nothing esle in the way of pain. The surgery was fabulous, I did stay overnight but that's how they do it here. Back to work next week but could have gone back on the second day. Good luck, really stick hard to the pre-op regime I think it really made a difference to my recovery:thumbup:

    One Day Down

Wow! I was glad to read your post. I'm 5 days post banding and am sitting here feeling quite hungry and only ate two hours ago. My surgeon told me after the surgerty that he put 5cc in my band, I didn't get a chance to ask him why but the photos show a lot of space around the band. I'm guessing I'll have to do the willpower thing too, at least till they get the level right for me.

Hi I'm new to the site

I had mine in Rotorua, NZ on June 11th. My insurer covered half...so happy about that. I lost 8 kilos in the two weeks leading up to surgery and have lost another 2 in the last five days. Sticking to the half cup at a time is hard work but I'm sure it will get better. Good luck!

The Day I stopped Feeding the Beast

Between January 2005 and January 2006 I lost 53 Kilos doing the Atkins diet. I've since regained 35 of them. So many diets and soooo many failures. I've made two feeble attempts since then losing and gaining 10 kilos each time. In March this year I decided to go ahead with the band. Good thing was my insurer agreed to pay half. I have to say though that's the cheap part, the surgery to remove all of my excess skin at the end of this is what'll bankrupt me. I started my pre-op diet on May 29th and lost 8 kilos in the two weeks leading up to the surgery. I must take some 'before' photos before I lose too much weight.
