  1. I'm down 1.8 lbs. Didn't get to the gym once this week. Everything got in my way, a dead battery, work being done on my house and my husband was sick. Boy do I feel sluggish because of it. Surprised I lost that much. Keep up the good work everyone we will all get there!

    Valentine's Day Challenge

Well it looks like I have lost about 11 lbs since 1/2 when I originaly posted. I am happy with that. Congrats to everyone who lost! If you didnt dont give up!
  3. If that is the case I will now vote ...the first that we just dont like him :frown::cursing::frown:
  4. What? both pre and post banding I think this is a great place to get information and support. Perhaps you don't like some of us because we tell you like it is? The good, the bad, the ugly and the fact that it isn't a magical cure. It does take a little work on our part. I hope you just keep reading and get the info you need to be successful. Good luck.
  5. Freezing here too! Yes, I am sure it has to do with the weight loss. I was always hot before. I can only manage to eat about 1000 calories a day. I use dailyplate.com to track what I eat. It gives you protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar & sodium.

Band isn't what I thought it would be

Sounds like your doctor didn't do his job explaining the band to you. That is just not right. First the band should not be giving you pain when eating. You should feel full if you are following the rules. Also the pain in your shoulder is most likely gas. Most of us have had it post op. Yes, I love my band because I am losing but I would not love it if I was in pain. The band should NOT cause pain like you are explaining. I have gotten sick twice. The first time I ate too much and dry heaved for what seem like forever. The second time was when I know I ate too fast and didn't chew well. I was in some pain that time. If your doctor is not helping you find a new one. Good luck. When the band is working correctly and we follow all the rules it is hard not to love it!

    High Liver Enzemes?

I had them when I was on lipitor for high cholesterol. The doctor took me off of it. I am happy to say that since banding my cholesterol is in healthy range.
  8. Can you find anyone to make it for you? That way it could be made closer to the day. My guess if you keep going the way you are you could be several sizes smaller. It seems a size is about 13-15 lbs. Good luck and much happiness to you!
  9. Yes, me too. I happens more if I eat too fast but I do burp a lot after I eat. So bad that my dogs think I a growling at them! But if that is the worst side affect I get I will be happy!

    What if...? cheese?

hummmm- cheese or my high cholesterol, sugar and blood pressure???... Well the good news is I still eat cheese (string and reduced fat..no bread) and I no longer have high cholesterol, high sugar or high blood pressure. It is a matter of priorities. I hope to live to see grandchildren. I will take life over bread any day. Good luck. Give it time, you wont miss the junk.

    Differences in Scales

Yes, bathroom scales vary. My old Jenny Craig scale was not showing a weight loss for over a week but the one at my gym showed 2.5 lbs. I then bought a new digital one for home. I can get on and off it and back on and change my weight by .5 lbs! So who knows what is the exact weight!?! As long as it is going down and my clothes are loose I knew I am losing.

    6 month Bandiversaries

Great job All Stars! I too am very happy with my band. I really don't know what my measurements were but I do know the day of surgery I wore size 24-26 stretch waist pants! Today I wear a 12! Hope to get to an 8 but 10 is good too! Keep up the good work everyone.

    Hair loss

I am 5 months out and have not had the problem(knock on wood). I take one protein shake a day. Plus 2 of Andrew Lessman's "healthy hair skin and nails vitamins" (HSN) For the shake I mix either Baretric advantage vanilla or Unjury vanilla with 8 oz skim milk, 2 servings of frozen strawberries and about 4 equal in a blender. I love it. It satisfies my craving for icecream too. Good luck
  14. Walk, go back and re read the positive post. We are here for you and can help you through it. Most of us love our bands but it cant be said enough, there is no magic wand. There are rules to follow and we are all different. Best of luck to you.

    16lbs shy of losing 200

FANTASTIC! I sure hope all those out there who are struggling see your post. Congratulations. I thought having to lose 100+ was impossible but people like you inspire me and show me anything is possible!
  16. First, I think chicken is a staple for most of us. I was never told to avoid pork or beef and eat it occasionally. Next I want to stress that none of us should be having these "side affects." I have lost 76 lbs and was very lucky to have restriction with my first fill. I do make better food choices than ever before. Question, are you both getting enough Protein to make you fee satisfied? I notice that breads, cereals, and potatoes do not make me satisfied. Maybe it moves through too fast (?) Like my doctor told me I eat my protein first, then veggies and fruit. I do not drink with my meal or for 40 minutes after. I hope this helps you.
  17. Sorry you are having such a bad time. True I can't relate to what you are saying. You must have a serious talk with your doctor and nutritionist. We all are different but no matter how you cut it you must burn more calories than you eat. What are you eating? It is possible to eat around the band?. Are you following all the rules? Could it be you are not eating slow enough or not chewing well to feel full? You should not be in pain every time you eat. I wish you a lot of luck. I for one can't say enough good things about my band and hope some day you will feel the same.
  18. My doctor told me no for only the first 6 weeks. After that he said it was fine. I use them everyday.

    Suitable Snack

I always save something for night. I eat either 100 calorie low fat bag of popcorn ( may be way to early for you to try that since you are still healing) or a 80 calorie yogurt or a 60 calorie string cheese. I drink a glass of ice cold water before and take a long time eating it. It keeps me away from all the bad things. Not really any protein in the popcorn but the yogurt and string cheese have some. Good luck on your new journey!

    Exercising on pre op diet

My doctor didn't have me lose any weight before surgery. I did try exercising with the pre-op diet and didn't do so well. My body rebelled, I got very dizzy when I was tired. I didn't start the gym until I went on mushies. Then I felt better. Best of luck to you!
  21. Down 2.3 lbs this week. Haven't been to the gym since monday and feel sluggish. After I clean the garage today (arrr! ) I will get force my self to go! Keep up the good work everyone.

    Hi a little frustrated

Calories do count. You can't lose weight (which I am sure you know) if you take in more calories than you burn. By the foods you listed I would say you have a high fat/cholesterol diet. In any healthy diet beef should not be eaten more than a couple times a week. Most dietitian say no more than 6 eggs a week. The protein shake is good depending on what one you use. Some of the body builder types are also high in calories. I would suggest that you discuss what you should be eating with your doctor or dietitian. The band is a great tool because it helps you feel full quicker. I love it! But we still have to do some of the hard work. I for one hate and I mean hate exercising but I do it 4 times a week because I know I must. You should pat yourself on the back for what you have accomplished! Good luck, I am sure you will be successful!

    Valentine's Day Challenge

I am going for 15 so it I fall short at 10 I will still feel great. Good luck everyone and Happy year!
  24. Please make sure your Dr. said it is okay to eat food. Even mashed potatoes can be a problem one day out. Most of us are warned to do liquids then mushies for a certain length of time before we can eat. Your stomach must heal and my understanding is even mushies too soon can hurt you. Good luck to you and Happy new year.
