Depends on your surgeon's or nutritionist's plan... at 8 weeks, I'll be on "normal" food. Chicken salad is pretty soft, I can't imagine it not being okay at 8 weeks out, but yeah, follow your plan.Anyone know if I can eat a chicken salad? I'm 8 weeks out and looking to add variety to my dining choices. I'm so tired of focusing just on Protein that it's not becoming repetitive!

Mine seems to be a lot more lenient than others... I was having stuff like refried Beans, scrambled eggs, fish, etc... during week 2. I am 3 weeks out now, and I have been having things like chili (ground beef, Tomato sauce, beans and spices), chicken chile relleno Soup, wheat thins or triscuits, and so forth. It's all listed on my sheet from my dietician...
I have been tolerating everything well (except the Calcium I had... I will have to get something different).bufbills reacted to this -

Looks like there are lots of you on the 30th!
I just have a capsule Multivitamin. -
There are certain people I am not telling for a few reasons (mental health issues that I am not willing to deal with the repercussions), and on the whole I am keeping it kinda on the down low. I am telling some, but also saying it isn't public knowledge, so they do not share (hopefully). Anyone who asks, whom I don't feel comfortable sharing with, will get "I am working with a dietician on a medically supervised diet" -- which is not a lie.

I am 19 days out, and doing better each day! Had a rough start. Down nearly 18 lbs post surgery, but about 37 since October. I am starting to eat more and more things, and it is tolerated well, but still can't eat very much. I am okay with that!
My surgeon wanted me to start my multi at 7 days out instead of 14, since I had some complications. I started the B12 and Calcium at 14. -

GradyCat reacted to this -
Since I got my scale (about a month before surgery) I weigh every morning after I use the bathroom. I am aware that there are fluctuations due to many things, so I don't freak out if it doesn't move or it goes up a smidge I am approaching 3 weeks post-op, so I anticipate a stall here soon...

My nut said no... everyone's plan is different, though...

My surgeon just said not to drive while on pain meds. I didn't take my pain meds, but didn't need to go anywhere until about 12 days out anyway

That's awesome! Congrats! I just can't wait to get INTO a 14. LOL!

Tonight I ate 2 oz of ground turkey, topped with 1/4 cup of refried Beans and 1 TBSP of shredded cheese. My husband thought it looked like a lot of food, and I suppose it was a little over 1/2c, total. Is that too much? I didn't get any sense of being overly full, but it was certainly more than I thought I would be able to eat. I can drink a full mug of broth without feeling too full. Is this normal? My weight loss has stalled the last 4 or 5 days, but calorie wise, I don't think I'm eating too much. I usually don't even get up to 700 calories. I'm afraid of gaining weight again.

That seems like a lot, but everyone is different. At this stage, my nut is recommending 1/4c food per meal.

How I can go from laying in bed in severe pain, throwing up on myself, miserable, convinced I had made a huge mistake, to happily cleaning the house, easily drinking my Protein and Water, and feeling great is crazy. What a difference a week makes.
I have lost 8 lbs since surgery, and 65.8 lbs overall!I feel pretty great myself, now, considering my really rough start! Congrats on the loss!

Hrmmm... If you are sure there aren't blood clots, and you're not dehydrated, maybe your electrolytes are off? Maybe try Gatorade for a while? Are you allowed mushy foods yet on your plan? Maybe have some mashed banana for the potassium?
-
OMG you guys... I am sure this has been done before, and I thought about doing it a while ago, but only just tried it today. I am getting my Water and my Protein in at the same time now! I took my water bottle, added a scoop of unflavored protein, shook it to death, then added some Mio, shook it again, and it is... ACTUALLY TASTY! I am so excited that I will finally be able to meet those goals easily ❤️

Biotene dry mouth spray is amazing. They gave me a small bottle in the hospital. They also gave me these citrusy swab things, and those I thought were awful... So happy you are feeling so good!

I'm so excited I'll actually be eating dinner WITH MY FAMILY tonight! My son is making french onion Soup. I can have that! Won't be having the yummy bread on top, but still... It'll be nice to finally have the same thing they're having, just like 1/20 the amount 🤣

How awesome! Congrats to you! You'll get there. Maybe not in the timeframe you originally wished for, but think where you'd be if you hadn't even started

My guidelines say 1-2Tbs of a Protein and 1-2Tbs of something else, like blended fruit, hot Cereal, mushy cooked vegetables, etc. It says to eat the protein first, and only eat until you are comfortably satiated... the numbers are the MAX, not the min. This morning, I could only eat 3/4 of a scrambled egg... I called it good. All surgeons/nuts have different plans, though.

Yay! Congrats!
BTW, were it not for covid, this year would have been my 30th high school reunion, so you're a spring chicken 😁

You don't really feel it much while still on liquids. Trust me, when you start eating more bulky stuff, you'll know. I'm 11 days out now, and on softs. Had 3/4 of a scrambled egg this morning and could eat NO MORE.

14 hours ago, esvaros said:Just got my surgery today! Overall has been really good, sometimes the meds wear off and I feel extremely uncomfortable but for the most part my experience has been really good! Took me awhile to get up and walk around because I was so drugged up haha. My only issue right now is trying to have anything other than Water. They gave me some Jello, gatorade G2 and broth and every time I try to have something it builds up the gas pressure in my stomach and I have to brace myself through it until a burp comes up. Should I just not try and wait until tomorrow? I’m not sure if I’m just making things worse by trying to drink through it 😕
Be thankful you can burp... I have never been able to get myself to burp for some reason (it happens spontaneously a couple times a year, and it is always a surprise), and after surgery I literally thought I was dying, the gas pain was so severe for me (I would nearly pass out when I would move, because it felt like something burst inside. Seeing stars, muffled sound, heartbeat in ears, everything. It was terrifying.) Thankfully, it eased a bit a couple days in. Hang in there!! Incision pain wasn't bothersome at all... just the extreme gas pain.
As for the liquids, just drink suuuuuuper slow, and you'll figure out what works for you. In the beginning, I had to have things absolutely ice cold or hot, because room temperature stuff would give me terrible hiccups. It's not like that now (I am 11 days out) -
In the case of a sleeve it is the physical restriction you get after the surgery. Your new stomach (pouch/sleeve) is only ~20% of the size of the old, so it is restricted in the amount you can eat.

Oh no, that sounds awful! You'd think they could make a freaking exception... it's not your fault it was postponed. Ugh... I am going to hope that you are able to get in under the wire!
