I finally can buckle my seatbelt on the plane without an extender. It had to happen twice for me to believe it!. Saw the Lion King on Broadway and I had extra room in my seat!! What a feeling!!!

Awesome This second time I got on plane, no stress belt buckle easily with some belt to spare! I even got front seat passenger cell phone that fell, slid to my feet! NYC how was Lion King ? I want to see it too!

  2. I am feeling emotional now that I lost weight I can't help to think why did I not love myself, care for myself, be kind to myself and not let myself go, like I did. Why did it take a surgery. Why couldn't I have the will power and believe and take my obesity seriously. Now that I am losing I can see myself healing not just on the outside but the inside. I feel bad for not caring for myself and treating myself with kindness. Telling myself that I can do it, that I am worth it. Now all I want is to treat myself right and not indulge in food but just enjoy food and limit myself. I think so different. I do think of food but it's not a worry or priority it is what it's meant to get you going fuel, and you want to eat healthy foods to get the right Vitamins, I dont mindlessly eat. I care Now.

  3. Congratulations it is nice to see the changes in the body especially like you said swelling. I had swelling in my forearms and the legs my face it felt more than just fat I can't explain. Now It has gone down. My body feels like it's saying aahhh, deep sigh of relief, because of the weight going down, even if I did not want to believe the weight caused it, weight took a toll on my body.

  4. That is so awesome, people don't know the struggle. The trauma and emotional toll it can have to not fit in a chair. or if you sit it's snugg. I personally hated social event with those flimsy plastic chairs when I sat on them I would get dizzy and hope not to break it. Now I sit on them and feel like well I guess if I break it, I can blame the cheap material.

I had my yearly pulmonologist appt. the other day. I've been seeing him for about 10 years, since I got diagnosed with asthma. I had suspected I had it for a long time before that, but when I got up to almost 400 pounds it got a lot worse. That year I was sick 10 months out of the year. It was awful.
Well, at this appointment the other day he said my lung function is better than normal for a woman my age (51). Like, WAY better than normal, and he doesn't need to see me anymore unless I have a problem. He also took me off my controlling inhaler with the long acting brochodilator in it and put me on a regular one that is just a steroid. I had originally had to go on the one with the brochodilator because we couldn't get my asthma under control with just a steroid.
Actually, I love this doctor and he's the best doctor I've ever had so I will miss him, but I'm so happy. I NEVER knew the impact my weight was having on my ashtma until I lost the weight. I just can't believe how much better I feel. I can't believe after struggling to get it under control for a long time, now it's like I don't even have asthma. It's amazing!

Yes! I feel the same like surprised at how so many things heal after the weight loss. Now I feel it's all momentum that since I lost 💯 how much more better would I feel if I lost say 50 more! It is great to hear that you have victory over your asthma!

  6. I replied this to a topic of other than the scale, what other victories do you have? As I read all the post of what people are able to do now, that they were not able to do before, I was thinking about what is something I can share? I found that if I had to share one thing it would be impossible because there is countless things that I can list! Though the one thing you have to remember, if you are planning to get a surgery, is that if you are having a hard time with something due to weight and only you know what that is... know that you will be able to do that, and more! This surgery for me has been a fountain of youth. yes, it is hard, yes there will be moments of worry or whatever feeling you will get, but understand it is all part of the process. it does help hearing others experience but ultimately yours might be different so you can't go by that either. you have to trust the surgery, doctors, and most of all yourself. That you can do this! I love hearing all the great, positive, life changing things, surgery has done for so many!

Hello! I just joined and am so happy to find this group! I've been a yo-yo dieter all my life and, at the tender age of 52, had almost resigned myself to the unhealthy up-and-down cycle. My tipping point was reading the new Canadian Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines that came out in Sept 2020. There it was, in official black and white: Obesity is a disease, NOT a choice/lack of willpower/laziness. It was an eye-opening moment for me, and the more I read, the more empowered I felt. I've since joined several WL organizations and forums, and the shared support has been both heartbreaking and invigorating. I've found my people!!

I'm interested to know what made you decide on WLS? What was your tipping point?

I have so many tipping points! as I know many of us probably have, its hard to chose like one particular thing bc just being obese is a reason bc it is linked to so many issues, not just physically but mentally. being obese messes with your state of mind, I think just being obese stops you from being who you trully are meant to be. its stops you from many things that an otherwise healthy or not obese person would do, bc they would not have the same issues that me with my experience with being obese does. I dont like to make obesity into a negative thing, bc there are plenty of obese people that are comfortable in their bodies, but I was not one of them. it really did hinder me from enjoying or doing things and I knew it was only a matter of time that I got a more serious condition that would only further my inability to enjoy life. I wanted a more healthier quality of living. so atleast I can live and be more normal and be a part of society and be comfortable in my own body.

I'm tall, like you. For me, it was that each year (or so) I would gain 20 pounds, and I would say/think, "Well if I could just lose 20 pounds, I would be back where I was last year, and that wasn't so bad." Then I realized that if I said/thought that next year, I would be over 300 pounds. Real eye opener...so I decided to do it, even though it was not covered by my insurance. Best decision of my life!

same here I would gain 20 every year! and i was also 300 when I decided that was the tipping point. like wow whats next 320 and I was 317 when I was put on my pre weight loss surgery. I got to 303. april 1st 2021 surgery now 245.

The trend and overwhelming amount of people not honest hurts others who need surgery and also keeps the stigma alive. Most people will talk there loved one out of it because of shame and ignorance. Trust me I'd like to pretend I lost weight by all the sudden eating correct and exercising but thats in itself sick. Your medical care isnt public but would you tell people you had cancer and instead of chemo you just walked and went to weight watchers?

I'm not shaming you lol sorry I am tense but I wish anyone who is neurologically ill will never use an app or be ok which is ridiculous considering the routine and millions who have been operated on.

Sorry for typos and run-on sentences lol my screen broke so i don't try to spell check or proof haha

Hope this hits softer and provokes thought

I have a friend that I known for many years that was always on the obese side, she suddenly lost so much weight and I swear the first thing I thought was she got the surgery, the thing is that when I asked she said she was on a diet that kaiser put her on with shakes and stuff, but I know she got the surgery. now that I know what is required and how she was acting when we met for coffee and she just drank Water. well anyways, I felt like that was messed up that she would not share it when I myself had weight issues with obesity. I felt like she must not be a true friend if she cant share such an important issue I would never have judged her, I am not like that I think its a privacy issue for her. I myself did share but with a small circle of five people closest to me. now is it and will it eventually leak out YES of course bc if you dont want it to get out tell nobody. so i expect it to someday be something that everyone might know and that is ok if someday just not now or immediately bc I am not a reality show and I dont want everyone all up in my business all asking me questions, wanting to see me and like no privacy. I dont mind people knowing my business but in my time, at my pace when I am good and ready and think people are worthy of knowing any of my business.

  11. I already needed much Lipo in all my body bc I am in my mid 40s, but now after surgery I think I might have to really do some sort of lipo to tighten the skin. although I have not been exercising and that I know will help with skin sagging so i am going to try to do light lifting for arms. and maybe more weight resistance. I have been cleaning my house organizing and keeping active in other ways but I have to be more like dedicated to keep up with the weekly weight loss.

  12. After about ten years of not seeing the scale go down, Post Surgery I can see the scale go down and down and I can't believe it! This is shocking to me as for the past ten years it has been slowly going up and up. I had been thinking about surgery for around ten years and went through two programs completing them only to back down, then on the third program finally I was ready. I think what pushed me was that I was in it heart and soul basically mentally and physically ready for the whole process. I had great fear and so I knew it is fear because I am not taking it serious and doing what they are asking me to do. there are so many steps and even once you pass them your mind has to agree and believe it and you have to have a sense of confidence. something I did not have the first two tries. The scale going down is your reward in the end because now I know I am on my way to a healthier happier life!

Same as everyone else. You want to wait long enough to make sure if you have an adverse reaction that you can tell whether it's shot or surgery related.

That is exactly what I was hoping to make sure I knew if any reaction was surgery or shot related. I did get it on Friday! the Pfizer and I had no reaction. I am glad for my bariatric pals for replying.

  14. Has anyone gotten the Covid Vaccine after surgery like weeks later? I am debating if to wait like at least a month or at least 3 weeks post op just because I am wondering if there is enough studies out there to know if it would cause any side effect because they are to close together. I am going to talk to my doctor but is there anyone that has gotten any of the vaccines>

All of this? I had 2.0z of salmon and avocado puréed together and 1 cup of Protein Shake mixed with yogurt that took me about an hour to drink. I think that’s very minimal compared to what I should be eating . I’m on week 3z

oh I said all that because its more than week one! and two so I am hoping I can have that on week two. I think I read on my post op paperwork week 3 its allowed :( this is hard liquid diet. i have to keep thinking of the positive that is this whole process.

The liquid stage is HORRIBLE. No matter what you do, it's going to be a slog. But in the grand scheme of things, it's over pretty quickly. Just keep telling yourself it will be over soon (even if it seems like forever).

When I was on full liquids, I started whisking an egg into my broth. Basically, this is what egg drop Soup is. I was also making Protein pudding with sugar free pudding and Protein Powder. Things like this have enough substance to them that they feel just a little bit more like real food.

when you whisked an egg into your broth what week post op or was it preOp?

So I’m in my second week post op and this liquid diet is driving me up the wall. My dr has me on the longest liquid diet and I just can’t take it anymore. I had 1 week clear liquid preop then 1 week clear liquid post op. Then 2 weeks full liquid. So April 22nd is when I’m supposed to start the puréed but when I say I absolutely HATE broth I truly mean in. I’ve tried so many and none of them are good to me. I’ve even made homemade and tried different flavors. I love Soup with chicken and noodles but just the broth tastes so disgusting to me. I really want to follow this diet but I’m ready to be on puréed. And it’s not helping that I feel so fatigued and hungry all the time. And I usually struggle with having an appetite. I caved and had a baby size amount of soupy mashed potatoes with Protein mixed in and I tolerated that completely and I didn’t feel so drained or hungry. But I feel bad about not adhering to the diet. Help!

omg I was about to eat something not liquid too literally I am hungry but maybe its bc the Protein Shake is clear maybe since week 2 they allow us to drink milk it might keep us full longer. I tried going to more than one ounce and my stomach does feel like uncomfortable. this is so hard to do!

My pre op diet starts Saturday (3 days away) and is definitely less restrictive - 2 Protein Shakes a day and unlimited raw veggies. One small meal of 4oz lean meat and cooked veggies. One small healthy snack (cottage cheese, piece of fruit). Then liquids only for the day prior.

For those that finished pre op in March... how'd you finish up? Made it?

that is more reasonable! I don't understand how if obviously food got us into this situation how would a strict diet be so simple for us, it doesn't make sense.
