What makes/keeps you full?
Protein definitely keeps me full the longest. I can tell if I'm not eating enough protein during the day because I feel more hungry.

Hello
Hi, and welcome! Nice to meet you.
-
just had my band
I also had pain in the middle of my chest, it almost felt like it would roll up and the pain would get more intense and then calm down for a little while. I kept telling myself it was just the gas. On post op day 5 I started thinking it might be reflux/acid or even some type of spasam. I tried taking a pepcid that evening (I already take prilosec every am) and I felt 80% better within an hour. I checked with my Doc. and he said it was okay for me to take both of those medications for awhile, and he increased my doses. I have felt 100% relief of that pain. Good luck to you, I hope you feel better soon!

two very important questions
I waited to tell my 10 year old until two weeks before my surgery. I wasn't going to tell her exactly what I was having done at all, but in the end I decided to tell her. Right away post op she told me that she was unhappy about my choice to have surgery. When I asked her why she said 1-she was really scared when she visited me at the hospital because of the tubes and 2-she couldn't cuddle with me because of the incisions. Now 2 1/2 weeks out she is feeling much better and now she is the food police "are you sure you can have that?" I do agree with not telling your son if that would work for your family, but I also know that would have never worked in our house. I don't do secrets well, I like being able to talk openly with my husband and not having to worry if my daughter walks in the room. Also my GUESS is that your IUD will be OK, however I believe it secretes a small amount of hormones, I don't know if it is enough to concern your surgeon, that is a really good question.

anxiety about this weird thing in your body anyone?
I am so glad to hear I am not the only one! I get anxious about the band being in me! Sometimes it just seems so unnatural! I just try really hard to focus on how much healthier I will be when I get some of this weight off! Spending time at LBT really helps me with my anxiety. Seeing all the people walking around, living a normal life with there band really helps give me a reality check!

Milwaukee Wi. w/ Dr. Wallace??
Hi, I was just banded Dec. 30 in Milwaukee (not your Doc though). So far I have lost about 12-16 pounds. I definitely had doubts, I still have moments when I think "Oh my gosh I hope I did the right thing". I'm only two weeks out, and every day I feel better and better. Physically I feel 98% healed, but now that I'm feeling so good I miss eating! I know this was the right choice for me, make the choice that is right for you. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them with my limited knowledge! GOOD LUCK:thumbup:

Yellow Eyes - did anyone have the whites of their eyes turn yellow after surgery?
Jaundice is serious. Please keep us posted on your condition! I will be thinking of you.

How many times did you have to see a shrink?
At my appointment with the psychologist she said she wanted to see me again before she would clear me for surgery. She also gave me the option of finding a therapist closer to home. I chose to meet with a therapist (mostly because I didn't really like the psychologist) now I'm established with someone close to home, and I don't have to see the psychologist again.

I'm new and scared
Hi Jasmine, I just had my surgery Dec.30. I was a basket case with nerves and anxiety right up until the moment I was put under! This was my first surgery too. If you want to ask me any questions, ask away...

Hida scan
Hi, I just had one done Oct. 15. -first you get an IV with some contrast -then you lay on a board for like 1/2 hour (while a scanner records the dye's movement through your liver and gallbladder) -then they give you synthetic gallbladder hormones -then you lay there some more -then your done! Good luck, its a little boring but its OK

I Got My Date! I Got My Date!!!!

change of heart
The decision to have a lap-band is very personal, you need to be comfortable with the risks vs benefits. For me the risks of continuing a life of obesity are far riskier than the risks of surgery. When I came to that conclution is when I knew I was ready.

Anybody been banded thru a clinical trial?
I was asked to be part of a research study, however they pay nothing. I would be completely financially responsible. I would proceed as normal, and the study would get to review my medical info and progress. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not, I'm leaning toward yes, the more research the better!

Did I overreact?
This did actually cross my mind :tongue2:. It is something funny/sarcastic like I would do, but ultimately decided that was a little mean even for me!
-
Did I overreact?
It could have been, but I was pretty sure it wasn't. If it would have been his buddy's I would have told his buddy to keep his private stuff to him self. Then I would have personally gone out and purchased him a replacement.

Did I overreact?
Hi Kat I just read your post, we just spent the last hour and a half reading this thread and talking about it. Just for the record I personally do not consider playboy porn by any means. I grew up with playboy on the back of the toilet seat, takes a little more than that to shake me up.:tongue2:

Did I overreact?
Well Donna, your happy ending posts got my hubby's attention he started reading over my shoulder, and laughing his head off. So I told him he could read the whole thread. I warned him he may not like it. By the time he made it through my original post he was falling off his chair laughing. It's a good thing he gets my sense of humor! Anyway it got the conversation rolling. I knew he wouldn't be mad at me for shredding the magazine, but he did appreciate all of the posts coming from different perspectives. We were able to discuss each person's post and how we felt about it, you know like which posts are true, funny, helpful, just out right crazy... . Hubby says if I ever find porn again I have his permission to shred it :tt2:, I promised not to shred it with out talking to him first. He agreed that what he had was pretty hard core. He was most disturbed by Beth's post about his baby girl in 8 years. I was a little worried he might be annoyed that I was debating this on LBT, but he wasn't at all. Thanks all :tongue2:

Did I overreact?
Melolo-I completely agree that a discussion would have been much more mature-I acted before I took time to think about how I felt. If I thought what I did was completely justified I wouldn't have asked how everyone here felt about it! I have been contemplating having my husband read this entire thread. I know if I were to ask him about the magazine (by the way it was just one) he would automatically apologize and not think about how he really feels about it. He rarely disagrees with me to my face, we never get mad or argue with each other. Neither one of us likes confrontation-so I thought if he reads the thread he will see some people agree with me and some with him. We are a great team and have a wonderful life. We come from really different places. I have had a lot of life experience and he has had very little, so I know at times I can be very hard (think tough love). He does by the way point out when I treat him like a child, and reminds me to back off. With other men I've been with I have NEVER had a problem with them going to strip clubs, adult movies, magazines. When I first met my husband I didn't mind that stuff either, then my husband did something no one has ever done. He made me let him in, he made me trust him, love him and depend on him. And that makes me feel really vulnerable. I think he is the most amazing person in the world and the first person to ever really love and care about me. And the first person I have ever depended on. I think this is the first time in my life I have felt like I could say no. In past relationships I felt like the guys "needed" strip clubs, movies, magazines and other stuff because I was so worthless/unattractive. Now because my hubby makes me feel like I am worthy of his love, I think it makes me feel really vulnerable. I HATE FEELING VULNERABLE. Those feeling of inferiority came back when I saw the magazine. Its also funny that every single close friend (that knows us both) has confessed to doing the same thing with their husbands. For example: busted adult DVDs, a piece left on each step in the house, playboy magazines tossed in the fire, smashed up home movies (okay he deserved that one, it was with an ex). I don't know if it is who my friends are or where we live, but these are some beautiful, confident, freaky in the bedroom (tmi) kind of women, that all reacted the same way as me. I'm not saying I was right-I'm just saying I'm really glad to have people here to tell me how they feel. I always value both sides to every story. Thanks!

Did I overreact?
The truth is I'm not sure what bothers me exactly , I just know it did. But the fact that the information came from my daughter is the MOST bothersome. (That she could have seen).

Did I overreact?
Sunwyse, You may be on to something there. I have actually asked him to treat me like that, but he acts uncomfortable with it. I think I may have come off like a bit of a prude . I'm the one that was wild-he was the one that wanted to settle down. Don't get me wrong marrying him is the BEST thing I have ever done. At no point today was I angry with him, I was just irritated. I've talked it over with 2 close friends that know us both and they think shredding the magazine was hilarious. But they also said I really need to talk to him. I don't want to talk to him though. What am I supposed to say "sorry hon at some point when you weren't looking I turned into a jealous spaz?"

Did I overreact?
I'm so happy with the feedback. To be honest I thought more people were going to agree with me, or find it funny. It is good for me to hear the truth. I do tend to treat him like a child sometimes, and I need to stop. I used to not care about his magazines and dvds, but he got sloppy and he was leaving them around the house. You can't do that when you have kids. Every guy I know has this stuff, I just like to think that my husband is different. From what I know about men and porn, it really has nothing to do with his relationship with me, he just likes it.
