I put a cap of Miralax in my coffee every morning. It keeps me regular. Rarely I have to take two dulcolax as well. You really don’t want to go beyond 3 days with no movement as you risk getting bowel impaction.
right after surgery I did have to use an enema a few times.

Hi I was not told I could take Dulcolax but I took some now worried if I can have it or not I’m almost 3 months out of surgery!

Water pretty much goes right through you, so you're not likely to do any damage. Well I guess technically you could, but you'd have to drink A LOT of water at one sitting to cause problems. Your body will rebel if you're drinking more than it can handle. food is a different story since in stays in your stomach for awhile.

I get a full feeling drinking water sometimes. Thank you for that assurance I have been so scared to drink too much worried about busting staples cause my surgeon put the fear in me. He was like if you rupture you might not live. I’m at the beginning of my 4 week marker Wednesday I would think my stomach can handle at least fluids. I have my post opp tomorrow. I’m making a list of questions so J don’t miss anything at all!

Yep, ordering appetisers are the way to go though I used to struggle to eat those too. I opt for seafood whenever possible. Oh & make sure you keep to the no drinking before of after. I made that mistake out of the habit of ordering a pre dinner drink when out & I could barely eat two or three bites of what I ordered. Don’t be afraid to mention to the staff (privately if you prefer) that you’re on a medically restricted diet otherwise you may face the wait staff asking if something was wrong with your unfinished meal.

My biggest difficulty is needing time to eat. When everyone else eats quickly, the wait staff are wanting to clear plates & you’re not even half way through your meal. Since we’ve opened up a lot more here in Australia, I’ve met friends for lunch a couple of times but some places only offer tables for 45mins. By the time you read the menu, wait for your order to be taken, prepared & served, there’s little time left to eat. I had 10 mins at a cafe last week. My friend devoured her lunch. I got three bites in & took the rest home for dinner.

Are you able to take a small cold bag with ice bricks with you when you travel? I take frozen Keto frittata muffins with me & refreeze the ice bricks overnight. There are some decent Protein Bars around too. Just ensure they’re low in carbs, sugar & fat. You may to try a few first because some can be too gluggy & my tummy complains. Easy to grab a high Protein yoghurt from a corner store too.

That’s good information! Right now I’m having a hard time feeling full with 1/4 cup of food, maybe cause the food is very light that I’m eating! I think yogurt is the way to go I’m already super excited about eating parfaits this Wednesday when I can eat that!

I only worry about that dumping syndrome that I bet sucks!

  4. That’s so interesting surgeons are so different with what they allow. I’m entering my 4th week this Wednesday and have been 100% compliant just having the Water intake issues. This week I will be able to have minestrone Soup, egg salad, hummus, soft fruit. I can also have a little bit of bread and flaky white fish. I’m very excited to have something more than what I have had!

thank you for you reply so I know in the far future I can go out and have some options! I love seafood so that is the restaurants I would like to go. There also are some great recipes on this Baritastic app I use. It’s just hard measuring out 1/2 cup for a meal when you want a variety.

The surgI have said after the seven weeks when you can eat regular food again I can’t have more than a half a cup of food. I guess he is just saying that because I think maybe 1 and a half cup sounds more like a meal. I like to eat different things, I guess you just wait and see what feels comfortable.

I guess what your saying is you can eat a little more on certain occasions? Do you drink at all while out eating?

I know that it's hard for me to remember to drink Water, and will be even harder post surgery to remember to drink enough when I can't drink several ounces at one time so I treated myself to this. https://www.h2opal.com/ I have been getting my goal every day since I have my own personal Water trainer. I was worried the glass would break but so far I've been using it 2 months and still going great.

Does the water stay cold? I guess it senses and sends reminders to your phone? I might have to invest! Thank you!

Your lack of Water intake seems based more on fear than anything else.

So think about this... it take 2 - 4 grams of Water to mobilize 1 gram of fat (this is the real reason it is drummed into every bariatric patient to GET YOUR FLUIDS). If you DONT get enough Fluid, you will severely hamper your ability to mobilize/lose adipose tissue - with the added bonus of ending up in hospital from dehydration. CHANGE your habits, that's the only thing keeping you from getting enough fluids.

I agree, I feel like once the 6 weeks is up and I know I can’t rupture staples inside I will feel more confident. I appreciate your comment! Thank you.

  8. I can’t wait! I am so scared not to mess my stitches up so I’m worried about drinking too much at one time! I can’t wait til it’s fully healed and I can drink more than sips at a time! I have been doing really bad because my diet plan from doctor doesn’t allow Soup with juice, in at the stage right now where I can only have eggs, tuna fish right now.

my Water intake is too 27 ounces a day and In only peeing like 3 times a day😕.

My nutritionist gave me a packet with everything that I’m allowed to eat and when I’m allowed to start eating them....so this week I am allowed eggs, cheese, Peanut Butter, Greek and regular yogurt (plain only), skim milk and plain hummus.
I started eating yesterday and my first thing was an egg....I made 1 egg with a sprinkle of shredded cheese on top....I could only eat half of it. I was amazed....but the 2 bites I had were delicious!!
I would recommend not trying the broth until after your surgery. For me after only having Protein Shakes for about 4 days I was ready for something different and the broth was SO GOOD!! I really felt like I was eating something!
I actually never was told to do any purées....Its strange to me how it seems that every doctor has different dietary guidelines for their patients.

My nutritionist doesn’t allow cheese this week I can only have week three egg, tuna and canes salmon. I can also have things from the previous week such as applesauce, yogurt, oatmeal low sugar.

I am losing so much hair! It started at about 3 1/2 months post surgery and hasn't slowed down. I'm now just over 6 months.

I have very fine hair, but had a lot of it. Now I have fine hair that is also thin. No one else seems to notice though so that's good. I'm hoping that the loss will slow down soon. In addition, as soon as we are allowed I plan on cutting it into a chin length bob. Good news is with the weight loss the shorter hair should look good with my not so round face.

I’m sorry to hear this! I’m not looking forward this this at all! I’m trying to keep up my Protein as much as possible to negate this side effect!
