I had my surgery on July 28th. Everything went very well but the incision pain is off the charts here in day 2. I know the gas bloating is causing a lot of it and I haven’t been able to get it out. I’ve been walking a ton too.

Anyone have a suggestion to help with this? Mentally I’m doing good but this would go a long way towards my mojo.

Are the pain meds helping? I have my surgery tomorrow!

  2. I'm so torn...after 1 week of liquid diet (protein shakes and broth) my surgery was cancelled due to covid. Now, they are trying to work out an out patient option, and I didn't think to ask "Do I continue to try and do the liquid? Just do low carb? Eat whatever I want?" I'm going to email them tomorrow to find out what they recommend. In the meantime, I'm split between options 2 and 3 depending on my mood!

  3. Good luck to everyone! I will still be following your journeys and hoping for the return of elective surgeries, and testing some of the maintenance recipes to continue a low carb, low fat diet, until I can get rescheduled. I think this is truly the best decision...I am a bit of a wimp, so if things did NOT go well, I wouldn't want to be around me!! Take care and keep posting!!

So I had bypass and my surgery happened about 2:30 PM. I got to my hospital room around 6:00 PM. I would have been fine at home after about 9-10 PM. Those first few hours I was pretty out of it, but even then I was was getting up and walking around by myself. The only time I needed help moving around was my first walk around 7 PM. I was pretty dopey and made my husband walk with me. The only thing I needed all night was ice chips that I could have gotten myself if allowed.

Ultimately it is up to you and your comfort level. Some questions to think about: Have you had surgery before? How did you feel after anesthesia? How was your nausea? Do you have someone that would be comfortable with you in the hotel post-op? Do you have any conditions that already make it hard for you to get around?

Ps. If you do decide to go with the outpatient, ask your surgeon about a scopolamine patch. It really helped eliminate almost all post-op nausea for me.

I think god is telling me it's not my time. Last night, my daughter (24) who would be my primary caregiver, chauffer, etc was lighting the grill and it blew up and gave her second degree burns on her hands and burned her hair (honestly I think she feels worse about that!) We called 911 and she spent the night in the hospital. I know she will be fine, just not sure she's up to caring for me in 7 days. I called and told them I will be available as soon as the hospital's re-open/ Meanwhile, off the liquid dirt and back on low carb!

  5. Well, hospital #3 has cancelled elective surgeries. Boo! Now they are looking into out patient surgery but I would need a hotel room close by...and reading some of the stories make me think I should wait the 6-8 weeks that they think it will be before they can do the surgery with a hospital stay. No change in price, but that is what out patient costs up in Orlando, so....thoughts??? liquid diet day 7...

I was devastated, believe me. But I am in Florida and it is crazy down here at the moment. I am trying not to be selfish, I know hospital beds are going to others with much more important agendas right now. Its a week by week things the scheduler told me so lets hope I can get rescheduled in a few weeks!

Where n FL? I'm supposed to have surgery in Boca Raton on 7/21. It was cancelled once, but they moved me to another hospital. My Dr. is on vacation this week (7/12-7/19) so I'm not sure I'll find out until he gets back...yay. liquid diet is not easy when you aren't sure that the surgery is going to happen. I know I will get it eventually and I understand there are others who need the hospital beds,,,but I still REALLY want it!

I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I just hope I'm prepared (as in, that I have enough stuff). I'm super worried about sticking to it, esp. the no caffeine part.

I actually have been weening myself off of caffeine...I have 3 pods every morning and cut back to two caf, one Decaf and now I'm at two decaf, one caf and next week, no caf at all. :( But Premier Protein makes an awesome coffee creamer substitute! Good luck!!

  8. Thanks for all of the information! I'm getting a gastric sleeve on 8/17. I am learning so much, pre-op, post-op and what to bring to the hospital. I need to find some comfy pajamas and a body pillow! I will definitely prep the SF Jello and Protein shots...I ordered the little cups for them today. I am a researcher and planner (although it's usually cruises and vacations...not surgery!) so I want to read and know everything. Good luck everyone!!
