chunkarella got a reaction from Slownstedy in Possibly looking at revision; dumping syndrome
The dumping keeps me honest, but I have found that some things don't cause me to dump. It's not a good feeling when you're all sweaty, your stomach hurts and you have gas that you can't trust 100%. I find though, that eating anything super greasy is way worse.
i try to avoid anything greasy and anything with a lot of sugar in it (super vanilla-y things really hurt my stomach). It's really not as bad as people think, but you have to absolutely stop when you're full because any sort of over-full feeling is so horrible feeling. I truly avoid that with all my might. even if I have 2 bites left on my plate, it stays there because i'd rather waste that bit of food than hate myself for the next hour and feel sick.
Honestly, I chose the bypass over the sleeve because of the heartburn and the potential to gain weight back easier (from my understanding/observation) but def talk with your doctor about this. I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for you.

chunkarella got a reaction from lizonaplane in It happened- I got canceled
I'm sorry to hear this. This happened to me last year. I was like 3 days or so out from my appointment and it was cancelled because of covid and then again because they wanted clearance from a cardiologist before they put me under anesthesia. It's so heartbreaking. I gained weight back and then it was almost cancelled again because it was much higher than my starting weight. If i was any more than 10 lbs over my initial weigh in, they'd cancel it the day of... like someone stated earlier, use this for fuel. Use this time to try to work on and hone your post-surgery skills.

I hope this all works out for you!

chunkarella got a reaction from lizonaplane in What was your tipping point?
I would say that my tipping point was losing about 70 lbs on Keto, and then regaining all (plus more) back and seeing just how much better i felt when i was doing what was right. I know that keto wasnt sustainable and after talking w/my therapist and reading online, i decided to pursue surgery. i know it wouldnt be an easy way out, but it has made me return to how much better i felt and know that i can keep going. i just moved apartments and i managed to pack and move most of my person stuff and i didnt feel like i needed a week to recoup.

and you had mentioned eating out. It's soooo difficult for me bc i enjoy eating out with my friends (esp now that covid restrictions are being lifted and we're all vaccinated) but i still have to be wary. Order apps for Entrees (or find a good friend that would split their entree with you!) and maybe a side of veggies. Order only Water and absolutely STOP when you're full. i get these weird hiccups when i'm full and they're very loud and embarassing so i try to avoid pushing myself.. plus, it can always be lunch the next day!

chunkarella got a reaction from pk88 in Has anyone regretted getting the surgery?
I definitely don't regret surgery, at all. I wish I had done it sooner.
And like others have said, it does depend on your diet. I have had McD's, and Peanut Butter cups.. no red meat bc I didn't eat much before surgery, and am iffy about trying anything beyond maybe a burger.
Do I miss my diet dr pepper or mcdonald's sprite? sure. I'm human and enjoyed them (for real, tho.. mc'd sprite is out of this world, ya'll). However, I find myself a lot happier and still tweaking my relationship with food, so it's getting better. You can still have what you liked before, but instead of 4 peanut butter cups, you can have 1, and still enjoy it.
I just hit 100lbs down and i'll take that over any of those old foods anytime. It's a personal decision and not one to make lightly. Just do what's best for you. Life can be so much more than food.. which has been so amazing to discover.

I was concerned about this too before my bypass. After my surgery, my doctor switched me from extended release to immediate release. It involves taking a couple more pills a day, since I now have to take divided doses, but it's no big deal. The best thing is, I haven't noticed any difference in the effectiveness, and it's been five months since my surgery.

chunkarella got a reaction from GreenTealael in Clothing Problems! What to do?
i was lucky and had some clothes from when i lost about 70lbs a year before surgery.. but for the "inbetween" times when i just need something that fits, i go to Walmart. i found a nice pair of jeans for $5 there. and i agree w/the belt sentiment.. but i know they can be uncomfortable, so anything with drawstrings help too.
goodwill is also a good place to try your luck. or even tjmaxx bc they can have some good sales.

chunkarella got a reaction from qianmij in Constipation
i was concerned w/not pooping.. bc honestly, a good poop sets the tone for my day (no shame.. I accept who I am) but my team told me that after surgery, i'd be going 1/2 as often as i used to. So if I had 1 movement before surgery, i'd have 1 every other or every 2 days. Thankfully, I'm at about 1x a day now, but when i wasn't having a bowel movement, i def made sure to take my Vitamins and drinks all my water.. it got things going. 💩
also, if i go more than 3 days, i might "cheat" and have something i know will get things going. i always track, tho.

i experience hair shedding. i got my super long hair cut just above my shoulders about 3 months after surgey so i wouldnt be so annoyed w/all my hair everywhere. getting Protein in definitely helps. i notice when i'm not getting my protein, my hair can come out a lot more (not clumps.. just like brushing i end up w/a lot in the brush)

chunkarella got a reaction from Bwa in Lesson: You'll waste food. Don't beat yourself up
I feel that. I've always been told to not waste food and to clean my plate (cue lifelong issues with food and feeling guilty) and since i was bypassed, I have to be okay with stopping and leaving food on my plate. When I make food, I put it on a paper plate and let my dog eat the rest (no complaints from her)
It's weird because i sometimes have to tell myself, outloud, to stop eating and that i can always have it tomorrow.

congrats on ur surgery!! and a lot of people experience this stall. it's your body catching up with all the changes. just keep doing what you're doing and give your body a chance to catch up. keep doing what you're doing w/your Protein and doing the best you can. you'll continue to lose.

chunkarella got a reaction from MarahH in Surgery in my 20’s
I was only 31 when I had surgery and I was considering it a couple years before that -- I wish i had done it sooner. So long as you can show your history with failed diets, I don't think that age is a huge factor-- they just want to know that you've tried other things, from what i understand. good luck!

Exactly 5 yrs ago this month I stepped on the scale at my doctors office and it read 110, but it was KG! That means I had a BMI of 48. I remember being so depressed because that was the highest number I had ever seen. I remember thinking "man that's what I should weigh in pounds!" I am excited today because when I got on the scale this morning it read 110.6...POUNDS!! It's been a long road but I can't believe I finally got there!

90 lbs in 5 months isn't anything to balk at. that's fantastic!!
and i understand the feeling of "i should be losing more!" but your body is doing just what it should. it's still adjusting to this new lifestyle and all the changes. you're 5 mo into a new lifestyle after spending years in another -- give yourself time. you're losing almost 20lbs a month.. that's fantastic.
also, try to not compare yourself to others on this forum. i tend to do that and it makes me upset.. however, you got this. just keep at your pace and you'll hit your goal. also, if you're afraid that you're stalling, change up your diet to include less carbs/more protein.. or just increase your intensity with your workouts. when i get back on track w/my diet, i tend to lose quicker.

dont stress -- it's seriously frustrating, but it'll pass. I hit mine the first few weeks and i started to panic.. however, your body will start to lose weight. the first few weeks are a lot of Water weight from surgery and such.. just keep doing what you're doing and you'll see some results.

i couldn't stand Protein Shakes (except the Cookies and cream premier one) after surgery and they tasted like garbage.. i gagged on them.. which was weird bc i loved them before surgery.
i find my tolerance to spice to be a lot less, which sucks w/the 30-30-30 rule. and sometimes if i have a real sugar-treat, it doesn't taste the same.. not as good as i remember.

i finally hit the 50lb lost after surgery goal! i'm down 52 now, and i had my 3 mo follow up w/my doctor. she said that the second half of the year is harder to lose weight than the first.. she only expects me to lose 100(ish) my first year. i plan to blow her away and to do more than that. i travelled out of state and had to quarantine until my negative rona test (just got the results today - negative!) to go back to the gym. I've really missed it and have enjoyed going back. i notice a lot more strength than when i last went.. each time im getting stronger and lifting more weight than before.
