    Unsupportive Boyfriend

He is an a-hole. Bottom line. I tell men from jumpstreet...”what you like is not my concern. I may inform you or run things by you, but rarely if ever will I be doing it to have your consent or blessing. EYE am the boss of me, and no one else. “ Your story is a familiar example to me as I’ve seen things like this happen to multiple relationships..it’s as if they see the success as a threat to the fortitude of the relationship. I think some men may be scared that you’ll “outgrow” them, which could very well be true, but it is an act of outright selfishness to try to put you down for bettering yourself. If he’s no longer attracted to you once you become smaller, oh well, his loss, but how could you deter someone you love from doing everything they can to live a healthier life?... I say you go out and find another man who will love and support you unconditionally. You deserve it!
  3. This is me. My highest wt, which is also my starting weight, was 308. (I’m doing a self-pay outpatient procedure,so I wasn’t required to do monthly weigh-ins) I’m 5 days into the 2 wk pre-op diet and have dropped 4lbs already. If I had to guess, I think I’ll be somewhere around 293 or so come surgery day. I too am curious about how quickly I’ll drop the weight post-op,but I’m hoping for the best. At this point, I’m just praying for a speedy recovery and zero complications.
  4. I’m headed there next Weds. My fast-track will be the extended version, so I’m flying down on Weds with surgery set for the following Monday.
  5. I’m on Day 4, as of yesterday morning, I was down 4lbs.
  6. Exercising!?....I feel tired and weak mostly, I think I might pass out if I tried to workout.

    Time frame

Paying out of my own pocket and using insurance out-of-network benefits for a portion of it, so I scheduled literally the day after I submitted a consult application to the surgery center.
  8. The main reason I’m choosing to have the sleeve done is that I’d prefer not to have to change the usual way in which food flows through and is absorbed, in my body. I also think gastric bypass might result in “too much” weight loss for me personally. I’m aiming to lose about 120 lbs. I think the sleeve will get me there just fine. I also wanted to not exhaust the extent of WLS tools outright. If I never actually need a full bypass, why have it?,is the way I thought of it.

    Night shift

I toyed with leaving night shift for a while for this very reason. But honestly, it all comes down to choices I made when putting food into my body. Period. The shift worked won’t change that. I enjoy night shift and hope to never have to work during days again.

    How Fast is Fast Track

I’m actually headed to Blossom next Wednesday. Apparently, they can use certain benefits from your policy even if it explicitly excludes Bariatric Surgery. As it was explained to me,with my specific policy, they are able to use an out-of-network general surgery benefit to assist with costs. I wound up only paying $6k out of pocket. Blossom is literally the only way this would’ve happened for me, because I was hard and fast on not paying anymore than $7k for it.  I think it’s utterly ridiculous that most insurance plans these days won’t cover it, yet they’ll pay for you to get your foot cut off from diabetes complications or other ailments that could probably have been FIXED with bariatric treatment. It’s maddening!
  11. So far, I’ve only told my my best friend who will be my surgery companion, another close friend, my mom and one of my cousins. I’m not a super private person with the majority of things,I’m actually pretty transparent with a lot. However, I want to get through the surgery and upright on the recovery and regimen development before I really even talk about it because I don’t have the energy to deal with people’s questions, objections and the like. For now,I need support from those who love and know me well, while I navigate this.

    Loose skin fears

This is a very real fear of mine also! The last time I was this big, I lost 70 lbs naturally, but had very little loose skin. I was still in my 20s then and I lifted weights and worked out 5-6 days/wk, which I think helped. I’m 32 now, so I worry about how different my skin’s elasticity may be at present. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take a bit of loose skin if it means I can stop the threat of chronic illness and this joint pain, but I’m definitely concerned about it. I’ll be saving for plastic surgery anyhow.

    Liquid Diet

I feel your pain. Today is Day 4 of my pre-op diet and mentally it is getting better, but man am I hungry!!! I am not tempted though. I’m super focused and I’m happy about that. Best of luck to you! My pre-op diet is 2 weeks of 2 protein shake “meals” per day and one meal of a lean protein and veggies, per day. That’s it. It’s crazy to me how different each facility is with their pre-op diet guidelines.

    Ice cold protein drinks

What is it that is “hard” about drinking or eating post-op? Is it just not having an appetite or is it physically being able to swallow etc?

    Covid Test!

Yep, it is the same technique we use to swab for flu!

    Covid Test!

Oh wow! I’m so sorry to hear that! Stay encouraged!

    Covid Test!

It is actually quite horrible lol. As a nurse, I’ve taken swabs of that sort plenty of times from my patients, but boy was I unprepared for the receiving end of it! It’s definitely uncomfortable, especially if they are getting an adequate sample with correct technique. Just concentrate on your breathing and it’ll be over before you know it.

    Blossom Bariatrics

Hey! I’m headed there next week. Will be there from the 20th-27th for the Fast Track program. I hear so many great things about them and being a nurse myself I have a scrutinizing eye for things being up to par medically, so I’m not worried. Even though I’ve been coordinating from way on the East Coast, I feel 100% secure with these folks. I was so afraid I would have to push my surgery back, but I’m so glad I won’t. With all of the Covid changes they’ve put into place, it’ll be a bit nervewrecking to have to go to all of the appointments and into surgery l, alone, but I’m confident it will be great. All of the information has been so well laid out on their websites, videos and info pamphlets. I am thoroughly impressed by them so far.
