Hello everyone. I am in the pre-op stage and am already experiencing Hair loss. I'm 46, without a thyroid, but all thyroid hormones are within range. My question is, what kind of hair restoration services are out there??? Can anyone speak from experience? I know that I am going to lose more hair post-surgery and I am terrified.

    Thank you.

Heya i have a thyroid so what works for me may not work for you. #1 Protein gram above 80 #2 unflavored collagen powder added to drink daily solved it for me good luck

    Hi,

I've recently gotten through The Big Book on the Gastric Bypass, and I felt pretty secure in my decision to go through with it (my first appointment with the surgeon is July 8th). But a friend went on a diatribe, and now looking for more information. A few of the things she said:

-That people who've had weight loss surgery often have health problems because of the surgery (I know problems happen, but not at which percentages, etc)

-That these health problems lead to untimely death, such as heart failure from the low calorie diet, and that these deaths are not reported as being connected to the WLS, so the number of deaths from WLS appear lower than they are

-That the resulting reduced calorie intake is a starvation diet, and that's what leads to things like heart problems.

The Big Book on the Gastric Bypass had SOME statistics, but I felt it really could have had a lot more in the way of hard numbers. I'm wondering if anyone can point me to some data that might shed light on these points.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I definitely think complications could be under reported due to patients being lost to followup. What your friend is not mentioning is the statistics for those that go along being 300-600 lb and die of heart attack stroke or lose limbs eyesight etc from diabetes or periphereal vascular disease. The surgery is a real solution for obesity and the word needs to get out there. If you’ve been big 300+ for more than a decade and tried everything and have deadly health conditions only u can decide at what point its worth the risk. I also agree w the response about compliance of Protein grams for heart protection. Patient compliance varies and is hard to measure w deaths. Some people are fat and have congestive heart failure prior to surgery and would have keeled over anyway because it already progressed that far

I have been stalled for about 6 weeks. So, from about the 5.5 month mark until almost 7 months out from bypass. I don't know what to do to break this stall and it's starting to feel like maybe this is just the end of the weight loss from surgery? I am down 73lbs which I know is a lot, but I still have a lot to go. At 5,2 I should be 110-130 and that's 80-100lbs away.

    Any suggestions? Encouragement?

Also, I am loosing horrendous amounts of hair. Have been for almost 4 months! I thought that was supposed to end after 3 months or so of loosing hair.

About hair, up your Protein grams with a collagen powder in your drink. Really helped me. I did have a slight stall somewhere in the middle of the year but then it started coming off again.

I had a gastric bypass in January of this year. After that one of my most favorite Snacks were the Quest Protein chips! They have almost 20 g of Protein and 150 cal. So so so good!

I just had to have a revision last week due to a perforated ulcer. My new favorite is cottage cheese with powdered Peanut Butter, or cottage cheese with some sugar-free Jell-O sprinkled over it!

Right now cottage cheese with strawberry is one for me.

Tuesday I’ll be 1 month post op. I was doing so well my first week post op. Getting all my Water and Protein. Ever since week two days have been hit or miss. I keep Water down but food makes me so nauseous. I don’t know what to do. Protein Shakes, eggs, lactose… all makes me sick. I’ve thrown up multiple times a week lately. Today I woke up and felt so hungry but I couldn’t keep anything down. I feel like such a failure and so defeated. I regret doing this most days and I feel so alone.

Try fairlife milk lowfat. Very high Protein and similar feel to water.

Before surgery I was working in a warehouse working 12hr shift with all the extra weight with no problems. Now that I've had surgery and lost 55lbs I can not do it. Last night was my first night back on a job. My feet and back were paining but that's expected because I'm getting back into standing for long periods of time. Around the 8th hour I started to get weak dizzy and my ears started ringing. I tried drinking Water and body armour lite to see if it would help but it didnt so I got sent home to avoid passing out or hurting myself or someone else. I'm not even sure if I should go back. Im so hurt, mad and frustrated that I had the surgery to have a better quality of life and now I feel weak. I've cried for hours wondering why? I had surgery September 23. Why do I still feel this way?

Sent from my SM-A102U using BariatricPal mobile app

Did you try adding in a Protein snack like nuts or something there towards the end of the shift? I would definitely reach out your dietician to see if there's some kind of snack that fits your plan that can help with the issue

I did get told I would be in some pain after my surgery, manageable pain. Not pain that would send me into a panic attack with whining and tossing every two hours. The kicker is I am very good with pain but this is the worse pain I’ve ever had in my entire life. I haven’t been able to walk or drink as much as they want because of the pain. I am hoping I will get to stay another night but i’m afraid to ask. Help please

Please let your nurse know so they can give you something for it dont suffer in silence. At home a heating pad and lots of pillows helped me. You can also prob get a script of tramadol from your doctor for the first few days if you asked.

I feel like crying I am 2 weeks 4 days post op . I am having a hard time. I am constipated first it was for 1o days my surgeon office said do an enema right away. I suffered from constipation before surgery so I had hemorrhoids. well it was not a good sight besides the pain I bleed also. It was hard like a rock in there only little bit came out. That night and some next day it has now been 5 days since that bowel movement. The Miralax did nothing to help. I wonder if messaging would even help me at this point.

And I have Shortness of breath went to ER they ruled out any blood clots.

    ANy suggestions?

You can speak with your doctor for a script of docusate sodium 200mg. That might help. Some also use sienna. For me I combine with miralax. However, if you read up on intestines over at harvard you will find that coffee has an effect on the intestines that helps to push food along. So for me I added coffee to my daily routine (with surgeon approval only and 3 months post op because caffeine can be a stomach irritant) and that worked for me. If you have frequent issues u might want to see about a referral to a gastro they can prescribe some other new meds.

I'm 15 days post op and my doctor has advised me to lose 40 lbs my first 3 months, then another 40 the following three months. Here's the catch....I still feel awful. I am recovering very slowly. Walking 20 minutes per day so I am not stagnant but the incision pain keeps me up at night (hard lump and pulling, doc said is normal) and I am not resting well because of it. I do not want to be on pain meds but the soreness makes me sluggish. Anyone else slow to heal? There are so many people whom have jumped straight into their weight loss routine and I am not ready to start mine. Tired of the recovery phase......

Heating pad helped me alot at night as well as having six pillows to keep things from pulling tucked everywhere.

hi everyone, im very new here, decided to join because i had the gastric sleeve about a year ago, September 17th, 2019, and since i left the hospital and went back home to Europe, im not from the states, i started losing weight pretty quickly. the constant not feeling a 100 wasn't a problem for me since i had decided before hand to give myself time and dedicate my time to only this, losing the weight and get myself back to normal. i ever quit my job since i have the possibility of being self sustained for a while. so i just went on, eating very little, resting whenever i could.

everything was going fine, since at the time of the surgery i was 310 lbs and now i am 160 lbs, so 150 lbs are down in a year. however a couple of weeks ago i started feeling faint, couldn't concentrate and i was on vacation at the time and had collapsed a couple of times before that, but i didn't think much of it. drove back home barely with no energy at all, did some house work when i got back ( always resting whenever i could always lying down whenever i could, mostly how spent the last year since the surgery, always saving energy but always aware, always conscious ) until i got a call from my ex boss that wanted me back to work 2 weeks ago. i didn't sleep that night because i started panicking about my future and wondering how i was ever gonna be able to work feeling as shitty as i did, and then i went to the meeting with him, had a coffee, declined his offer because i already decided that i needed to find some place new to work at, since that one was too toxic, and after an hour i felt how my brain felt before it wanted to collapse. so i panicked not wanting to faint in a public place and rushed to my car, got home, as soon as i laid down i haven't been the same since.

i have felt absent, any conversation feels difficult to me, like i am floating, but i am conscious , however not totally present. any physical activity is hell, even though i worked out three times a week before this and walked with no problems. so i went and got my blood work done and hormonal work done, i even got an MRI of my head because i had such bad episodes of feeling like i was literally gonna die, i thought i had a brain tumor. but everything turned out great, everything is normal. the doctors keep on insisting i lost too much weight in one year and that i need to find a balance now, a classic case of malnutrition and starvation. however my brain is still not letting me feel like i am healthy because all the time i am feeling like i am not present. the doctors say that now i am in a state of catabolism, where the body has drained all its resources and it will take time to recover, psychically and mentally. i started seeing a nutritionist that claims that she will help me. it remains to be seen. one thing is for sure i cant live and function like this. its hard for me to tell myself you are healthy , nothing is wrong when i can barely get through the day with ease. i wake up feeling like this, there is always a panic in my chest that i may never recover from this. the doctors even say i need psychiatric help, but i know that's not the case since i need to solve mt psychical state first. i need to tart feeling like myself again asap.

has anyone else ever experienced problems like these? sorry for the long post, i am very desperate for any good advise i may get. god bless you all. here is a pic of me exactly a year apart from surgery and this September, just before i started feeling like this.

I didn't read the rest of the comments just your story here. I think you may have an anxiety problem, which can lead to something called agoraphobia if you don't get on top of it. However, the best way to know is for you to see your own doctors and discuss your concerns about this. You may benefit from a therapy called CBT. It very much sounds like you start to go into a panic attack from reading your story here but you need to consult with your own specialist (psych) who knows you to see if thats what is occuring. I have known several sufferers with agoraphobia and it started with small stuff for them like this. There are medicines for crippling anxiety but there is also the CBT option where you can analyze thinking along with a therapist if your psych doctor thinks you have an anxiety disorder. I do however want to say you look great here and made amazing progress, but I hope you seek out some professionals to help you so that your anxiety level can get down enough to do activities of life such as work. Anxiety disorders are so undermentioned but they can cause so much misery hope you feel better

    Dear all

I am 8 weeks post op today and my program and dietician have given me a meal plan that has bread in for Breakfast and lunch. I have not followed it until now. I have lost about 25lbs and they say this is because I am not consuming bread. It is about 2 slices per meal so 4 per day. I must also say that I am not a bread person. I feel like this is wrong. Does anyone else have such a program?

Well my plan is Protein gram based w little carb so no. On top of that I have digestion motility issues so they dont want me eating anything that might further slow things down so my situation is a little more strict on the intake. Make appointment with your dietician there who did the nutrition session for advice. Could be a psychological fear of carb but could also be a natural concern (for diabetes). I tend to speak to the members on my healthcare team for their advice because they have seen it all before. Your concerns are probably common to them

Thank you all for the feed back. I haven’t talked to anyone who has lost excessive weight. It’s very hard to do the Vitamins and the liquid supplements. Only because it takes me a few hours after ingestion, that I feel ok. It’s while preparing, ingesting, then after, that just makes me so ill. After I get through all the ordeal, time to start over. It shouldn’t be this hard. But it is. Tired of being sick to my stomach after I supplement. And after I eat.

I am only a little beyond 3 mo post op but this i have yupyupyup

  14. I got some and my surgeon has me using palmers on it because I have "baby skin". Ask your surgeon if they can recommend anything to help your skin during the weightloss, everybody has variations to skin and he/she can actually see yours.

    Hi,

I had gastric bypass 11/17/20 and every time I eat anything, I get super nauseous and feel terrible. Is anyone else having this issue? or does anyone have any recommendations?

Let your bariatric nurse/med team know can be complications. For me I get that nausea thing. It helps me if i preportion the amount (you can use a scale or little cups marked 1-2oz on amazon). It's less nausea if I eat under that amount. But I then need 4 meals a day to get the Protein grams which cuts into Water consumption. However, there are some foods that cause a complete hurlfest in any measure. My surgeon said that it can be this way if you have a very sensitive stomach. Basically its like mini food intolerances, alot of them. She set me up an appointment with the dietician again so we can go over my foods and see if we can eliminate common culprits of stomach upset post bypass. See what your surgeon has to say about it they might have helpful suggestions.

    Thank you.

I call them hiccaburps tek was right in my situation post op i had to have water with ice in it for it to go down comfortably

So...prior to having Gastric Bypass, I heard stories of people losing 15lbs a week. I was 297 lbs on day of surgery (09.08.2020). Today I am 267. Im curious as to the whether this is normal. I was hoping for more. My surgeon, nutritionist and fitness coach have assured me that I am progressing well. However, when I get on this forum I see people who have lost much more. Thoughts? I am eating my Protein. I walk about 6000 steps a day. I am optimistic as I write but I just want to make sure I am successful. On a happy note, I know that I am losing inches because my skinny jeans literally fell off the other day :)

The average according to data is 20-60 a month for the first few months. So i would say you fit in that range good job!
