  1. Hi everyone. I had my vsg on April 7th. A few nights ago I felt really bad tingling in my left arm and left side of face. It went away after about an hour or so (not sure if it's related). I went to the beach last night, and you know how when you're sitting on the ground, you put your arms behind you and kind of relax on your arms? Well I was doing that and every time I moved from that position, when I'd move my arms back to normal, my fingers on both hands would be stiff and "locked" for a few seconds before I could move them. I ofcourse thought Calcium, but I'm taking my Vitamins, calcium chews, and still having one Premier Protein shake a day with 650mg of calcium in that alone, so idk. Has anyone else had this?

😂 Sorry, I should have asked what are the most important things! Thank you for your response. When you say manage your expectations, are you referring to what I'm expecting to lose?

Yes, they did count fatty liver as a comorbidity. I'm currently at a 34BMI, but at the time everything was submitted to the insurance I was at a 35 BMI. They wouldn't cover me at 34. It had to be 35 BMI plus comorbidities.

Fortunately, when I was weighted at the doctor's office their scale read a few pounds higher which was a relief! Otherwise, I would have been denied by the insurance for not meeting the 35BMI. The quarantine helped with those extra pounds I needed to reach the required BMI. However, I have since lost a few pounds which puts me back to 34 BMI. I'm close to the border of 34 and 35 that I can easily go back and forth.

That gives me hope that they'll take fatty liver as a comorbidity in my case. I went to my consult with a BMI of 40 but I always fluctuate, and I'm scared of getting a bit under 35 bmi from the pre-op diet and them refusing to do the surgery. You're calming my nerves and inspiring me to keep going so thank you for the info!

  3. Hi everyone! I'd like to get the gastric sleeve, I have Medicaid and I know it covers it. I told my primary a few months back that I want to discuss weight loss surgery and she immediately brushed it off and said I wont qualify. I'm 5'3 and my BMI has been above 35 for the past 4 years. I've tried phentermine and now my EKG's are messed up so I dont want to go back on that. I have fatty liver, but my primary has never checked me for diabetes, my cholesterol hasn't been checked for about two years, haven't had a sleep study despite me telling her I've been very fatigued lately; so it's frustrating that she would just brush me off like that. I called my insurance and they basically just said I have to have my Dr send in the letter, but to at least try with the fatty liver. I now have an appt with my primary next Monday to go over this (unfortunately not a lot of Drs take Medicaid so I cant change my Dr). However, I don't know where to start, do I get all the tests and sleep study and do the six months of supervised weight loss first, or do I have my Dr send the letter to start the process, then do all of that? Or do I just go see a weight loss surgeon and go from there? Currently my BMI is right at 40, so I want to see if I have any problems in case my BMI goes back down a little over the next 6 months, also because the insurance representatives that I've spoken to don't sound too sure of fatty liver qualifying. Any help or advise would be great. Thank you!
