    Beginning BMI 35 or under

I thought the same for myself & was told the same by people. I was 192 lbs at 5'5" (size 10), but I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides. I went to the appointment with the surgeon scared he'd deny me but he said he thought I'd be a good candidate because of my other health issues, then I was scared the insurance company would reject me... but my insurance approved my surgery and paid for it. I will say my weight is coming off much slower than it does for people who have a higher weight to begin with. But I am 170 lbs now and over 5 weeks post-op. I say GO FOR IT. It is one of the best decisions I've made for myself (along with lasik surgery). I would have NEVER gotten off of sugar and carbs without the surgery. Now I do NOT want them or need them, especially sugar. 🤮
  2. Yes, my surgical center sent me a notice about it in an email (I'm in Houston). I am glad I did mine in May - even though all my family and friends were against it & I had no support about it. 🙄 I was supposed to get it in April, but they postponed mine until May... I had a feeling things might shut down again. Anyway now my family admits I was right to do it when I did. 😏 Sorry to anyone who has to wait longer.. Hopefully it won't last too much longer. 🙏

    June 2020 surgeries

Yup. My surgeon didn't require ANY pre-op diet at all.. besides no food or water after 12am.. I ate tacos the day before (but early in the day so they had time to digest).

    Lavash Bread!!

I had two of the mini pita snacks tonight. They're so good. I just ate it plain. Here is a picture of them... (and a picture of the nutrition facts from their website):

    Lavash Bread!!

Thank you. I picked some up today in the pita form and also the bite sized lavash pita snacks by the brand Joseph's. For tortillas, I usually use Ole Xtreme Wellness High Fiber Low Carb Tortilla Wraps. I bought some more of those tonight at Walmart and I am reheating some taco meat in my slow cooker.. that I had frozen. I am probably going to have to freeze one of these things - my eyes were way bigger than my stomach pouch clearly. 🤣
  7. I can only speak about sleeve, but it was normal. I had mad cravings for the first 10 days'ish & I'd "think" I was hungry when I really wasn't. I read somewhere that it is just your brain not correlating to your new stomach yet. Your mind and body has to adjust. Your brain still thinks you can eat whatever you want. Yes, it DEFINITELY goes away with time. Don't worry!

    covid test

I said the same thing! I had a strep test about 2 months ago and it was horrid. I almost threw up on my doctor!

    Can’t win!

Oh my gosh! I am so sorry you've had to go through this. It sounds like a nightmare, but hopefully this fixes the issue and you're on the way to recovery! Just take things easy and please keep us updated.

    covid test

🤣 No wonder mine wasn't that bad.. only one nostril and it seemed to be finished in 10 seconds. 🤣

    covid test

Hmmmmm.. They only did one nostril for me.

    Effect on Anti-Depressants??

I had to open mine up and take it "crushed". It was a capsule (Prozac 20mg) so it was easy. I stopped taking it for about 5 days?!?! BAD MISTAKE. I was just in pain and wasn't thinking clearly.. also surgeon told me I could stop taking it, but I knew that was bad advice... but I just wasn't all there for the first days after. It seems some doctors advise you to crush pills... and some don't. You can get a pill crusher for cheap on amazon, if your doctor is one of the ones who tell you to crush. I took my pills crushed for 2 weeks but when I went back at 2 weeks - my doc said I only had to take meds crushed for a week. My med has the same effect on my as prior to surgery. Nothing has changed.

    Buys at Costco

I went today and it was cheaper in-store. $26.99 for an 18 pack. So $1.50 each. That's a good deal.. I will definitely watch for when they're on sale. I also got the turkey that was suggested but I got the oven roasted, not the honey. Frigo string cheese is an amazing deal -- a 60 pack for $8.79! And it wasn't even on sale. The only thing is - they only have the regular, not the Light version --which I prefer (and has less calories), but that is too good of a deal to pass up.

    Waiting on approval bcbstx

I have BCBSTX and I was approved in four days! It was incredible. Doc had told me to expect to wait for 30 days for the insurance to approve or deny it. I was just bored and looking at their website and looked under the "Claims center" tab and saw it was approved. I emailed my doctor's coordinator and she said she was just about to call me in the afternoon to let me know! So keep checking that tab! Good luck!
  17. I was released to a solid diet today and specifically asked about lettuce and raw vegetables. Doc said I am cleared for all of them. He said I have zero restrictions.. (besides food being high in protein, low in sugar and low in fat). Today I had 3 baby carrots and one slice of deli turkey for lunch and I was fine. For dinner, I had a VERY small salad... (like 4 bites worth) and I have done fine. *only ate a small amount because I wasn't very hungry because I had a late lunch. My doc seems to allow things a lot sooner than other doctors.

    Regret

I felt the same way right after surgery. It is painful to drink. That goes away with time. My regrets only lasted it a few days. He will start to feel better soon and will be fine. Don't worry!

    11 Days Post Op plateau

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I clicked your link with threads of other people who stalled so that helped a lot. I tried to diet it all off on my own and was able to get to a similar weight through dieting and just stalled out, so I gave up on doing it the natural way... and went for surgery... (after I gave up on the dieting and got back up to 192 lbs.) I figure the stall is a temporary thing since my calorie intake is so low and I've given up carbs and sugar ---even when I was dieting (before surgery) - I was never able to give those things up. I am doing everything by the book. No cheating. So things have to change soon. I go to the doctor tomorrow for my 2nd post op appt... I will see what he says since I haven't lost any weight since he last saw me. One good thing about loosing slowly is supposedly you don't get as much saggy / extra skin, so that is a positive.

    11 Days Post Op plateau

I've stayed at 175lbs (down from 192) for over 2 weeks now... It is frustrating, but I have googled and found a lot of people have stalls in the first few weeks as your body is adjusting. I will say - this is why I had the surgery. Earlier in the year - I dieted and got down to 178 and stalled for 10 days or so and finally gave up. So that keeps creeping in the back of my mind. I am trying to stay positive though.

    Can’t win!

They want to go back in to fix what? The bowel obstruction? or something to do with your sleeve? Are you still vomiting/nauseous? Every single day? If so, I would probably get it fixed. Yes, it won't be fun going through the surgery again and the recovery... but you're not in good shape now either, you know what I mean? Either way - you're suffering. Might as well get it taken care of ASAP. But ultimately it is your choice and you will just have to have a hard conversation with yourself and decide what YOU want to do based on your own opinion. Let us know what's going on. I am so sorry you're going through this. And if you get unkind or flippant comments - just ignore them. This could be any one of us going through this (and it might be one of us later on down the line).. not sure why anyone would be so glib about a serious subject like this.

    Buys at Costco

Thanks for the heads up. I see at Sam's Club -- they have Premier shakes on sale for $13.98 for 12! That's a really good deal, but I don't know anyone with a Sam's card!

    Buys at Costco

Good question. I plan to go on Thursday.. I have my post-op visit tomorrow and start "week 4" of the diet. I am going to wait until I see the doctor to see if I am allowed grilled/baked chicken at this point before I head out to CostCo.. (I've read diet stages for the sleeve online, so I know what other doctor's recommend for week 4, but I am going strictly by my doctor's recommendations). I know they have Premier Protein shakes - which I plan to get. I don't think they're that discounted compared to Walmart, but they're a little cheaper. 18 pack costs $33.99, according to online pricing.

    3 day post ip

I did Miralax.. it is gentle. I was constipated for days and googled around until I read about someone having to go to the ER because of anal blockage, so make sure to get the constipation things figured out soon! It's not good to get too backed up.

    Crushing pills post-op.

I did it two weeks because I didn't clarify the time period w/my doc so when I went to see the doctor on my two week appt -- he said I only needed to do it for one week. It seems a lot of things depend on the surgeon..
