  1. OMG.. Congratulations! That is amazing!! Good job!
  2. Yes, I have to constantly remind myself that I am not going to drop the weight as fast as people with a higher BMI. Seeing people lose so much weight rapidly makes me jealous - I am not going to lie. I read someone else's post that said the benefit of slower weight loss is less loose skin... so maybe you can keep that in mind when you get frustrated. Thank you for the chart -- that was helpful. I am screenshotting to keep as a reminder.
  3. The Ranch flavor is SO good. I am addicted to them! They're on sale now at Sam's -- I think they're $5.88 for a 6 pack (3 Ranch and 3 Nacho cheese bags). I eat them every single day!
  4. My surgeon didn't even require a pre-op liquid diet! It might be because I was at a lower BMI though?!? I am not sure... Regardless - don't think twice about it.. just try to continue on the liquid diet. Good luck!

    Am I eating too little?

My surgeon said only clear liquids the first week... and start on the protein the second week. I followed his guidelines. But as @catwoman7 said -- seems like every surgeon has different guidelines.
  6. Definitely normal. I gained over 10 lbs right after surgery. I had never been over 200 lbs in my life and planned to NEVER hit the 200 lbs mark but I was 203 lbs for a few days after surgery. and I panicked. It is just all the air they pump in you and the IV fluids.. only lasts for like 3-5 days and it will vanish. Don't worry!!
  7. I had a psychological upset today.. My brother has been sick with colon issues, so I've been down helping him. As well as my mom. We just found out that he has Covid, So we've both been exposed. I've got to stay here because my mom needs help and her caretakers can not come for two weeks because we've all been exposed to Covid. I am scared my mom got it (and me as well). Anyway, I ended up eating WAY too much to cope... and I am so much pain right now. For some reason - I haven't been able to throw up post-surgery ... ( I used to throw up easily before because I get migraines and puke from them). I wish I could make myself throw up so I'd feel better. Anyway - I've only done this a couple of times and when it happens.. I just have to lay down for about TWO HOURS until it passes. It is miserable. Try not to ever test yourself and overeat.. it is misery.
  8. Definitely. I had someone stay with me the first night home, even though I told her I was fine. But I didn't need her. Just make sure to get all your RX meds filled before the surgery and you should be good to go!

    Are you cold?

I would definitely advise bringing a robe or hoodie to the hospital. I brought a robe and used it the entire time I was there after the surgery.

    Protein from Food.

Yes, I bought some at CostCo. It is called Protein2O and has 20 grams of protein. It is strawberry and watermelon flavor -- that's the only flavor they had. It tastes pretty good -- watermelon isn't my favorite flavor, but it is good enough. It has 90 calories & 6g of carbs. Picture:
  11. No pre-op diet for me. I had tacos the day before surgery.
  12. My BMI was 32 and not only did my surgeon approve it, but my insurance paid for it. Granted, I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglycerides... so that helped me get approved.

    19 days!!

It was my first surgery too. I wasn't in the pain when I was still in the hospital (day 1 & 2). They had me on morphine every 2 hours. Day 3 and 4 were pretty bad.. not gonna lie. I had no idea how much morphine was helping me.. Things progressively started getting better from day 5 on... . I only took my pain meds (tylenol 3) for 3 days (through day 5) and then I was off them. I was uncomfortable for about 2 weeks after surgery, but not in pain.. I didn't even bother with regular OTC pain meds. The pain level wasn't excruciating though. I'd go back & have it done again in a heartbeat, if I needed to.

    Are you cold?

I've always gotten cold easily, even though I live where it's hot as hades. I even brought my own robe to the hospital because I knew I would be freezing... But yes, I've noticed that it has gotten worse since the surgery.
  15. I am on Prozac 20 mg. My psychiatrist picked that drug specifically because it doesn't cause weight gain -- in fact, a lot of people lose weight on it.. I actually lost 15 lbs on it. I just was never hungry, but I did end up gaining the weight back (hence why I decided to have the sleeve), but did not put any MORE on. I love Prozac!

    PREGNANT ! ! ?

Oh my gosh! That is wonderful news! Congratulations on getting pregnant finally... as well as losing 100 lbs. I can not answer any of the questions you asked, but hopefully others can, as well as your doctors. Don't stress! I am sure that a lot of others have been through this same situation and everything will be okay. You will probably have to be extra mindful of what you put in your body, but google around until you can get to your doctor for advice and see if you can find others who were in a similar situation & their suggestions.. Abnormal EKG?! :-(

Ugh. Same thing happened to me. The day BEFORE my surgery - they told me I had to have another EKG with some random cardiologist I had never heard of in downtown.... after I already had an EKG and stress test. I had a second EKG and stress test the day before surgery & the cardiologist cleared me.. but I had to wait until he faxed over the letter clearing me for surgery, so I didn't know until about 4pm the day before that I would still be having the surgery.. and I had to be at the surgical center at 5:30am. Don't worry! Something might have just been going on with you the day you were tested.... anxiety?? everything might be just fine, like it was with me. Good luck and keep us updated.
  18. Awesome news! Congratulations!

    DON'T DO IT

Sorry that happened. It sounds dreadful. There are definitely risks involved, especially for cases like your wife's --which clearly was very complicated with other things going on. Please keep in mind that saying "don't do it" isn't very helpful. Being overweight can shorten people's lifespan like risk of a heart attack, stroke and diabetes. I had high blood pressure and high cholesterol and was on the verge of being diabetic... The insurance approved my surgery because the benefits of surgery outweighed the risk. I hope you and your wife have an easier time and things begin to improve for her. Good luck to you.
  20. Heya, I have BCBSTX and was approved in FOUR DAYS. My doc had said that I should prepare to wait around 30 days for the insurance to approve or deny.. but one night I couldn't sleep and I was just reading around on my BCBS account and saw it was approved in the "claims" section. (I didn't even know it would show up on my account). I contacted the coordinator and she said she got the approval and was going to call me in the afternoon to let me know. I don't know if this is typical of BCBSTX, but mine was approved in days. With that said, I did have a lot of "comorbidities" (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides and close to diabetic). That might have been why they approved it so quickly? I am sure different insurance companies worked differently on approvals though. I hope you get word soon and it is approved!

    Multivitamins

Are you able to cut them? Maybe you could cut it in half and take it twice a day to help you tolerate them? I just take ALIVE gummy one-a-day vitamins and separately Vitamin D, VItamin C, Iron, and Calcium pills. I have the RX B12 nasal spray. I don't know if I am doing enough but I will find out in another 2 1/2 months when I do lab work again. (I also take biotin and collagen pills for my hair, even though there is a lot of debate on whether that actually works with hair loss. I read it helps with regrowth, so I will continue to take it - even though I haven't experienced the dreaded hair loss yet).

    Scale Wh*re!!!!

I was just thinking about this earlier. I can not stop myself. I want to only weigh myself once a week, but I can not do it. It is like an automatic thing that I can not get myself to quit. I think it would so much more satisfying to only see the progress in a week. To be fair, I did this before WLS....so it's a habit I've had for a long time, not just because of the surgery.

    Unsupportive friends

Oh yay!! So glad I met someone who had it done on the same day! Sorry that your brothers haven't been kind to you. 🙁 I stalled for almost 3 weeks! Just started losing again. I had to google KG into LBs.. 😂 The US is one of the few countries that use the metric system, even our neighbors (Canada) don't use it. What a PITA we are! Anyway, you're doing way better than I am! You are doing fantastic! I am doing everything by the book but just slowly losing.... Hopefully since I got through the stall -- things will progress a bit quicker. If you ever need an ear - you can DM me on here.

    Unsupportive friends

Pre-WLS I had ZERO support. None. Not one person. Sisters, mother, friends, loved ones -- everyone did NOT want me to get it. My brother was okay about it, but not what I would call supportive. I got lectured. My mom told me she did NOT want to hear about it - if I was going to do it ...and she told me NOT tell her about it. I had to have my brother tell her when I finally did it, then she waited an entire day before calling me. ( I have a great mother.. I would not trade her for the world. She was just very worried about me having surgery, so I understand her reaction... she's my MOM.) I was so lonely and sad. I finally told everyone via email that if they did not want to be supportive, then let's not talk about it, because I had decided it is what I wanted to do... and what I was going to do. And there was no changing my mind. Since the surgery -- everyone has been nice about it. Not one negative comment. If I were you - I would put my foot down with your friend and tell her that you need support at this time as you are still healing and adjusting... and for your own mental health, happiness and success - you only want to hear positive things.. and if that is not possible, then she should not discuss with you. If that doesn't work - I would take a "break" from the friendship. You are going through so much already and don't need that negativity in your life! PS~ I am 5 1/2 weeks out (will be 6 weeks on Thursday), so we're very close in the healing process! Congratulations!!
  25. Do NOT cheat. You went to severe measures to lose weight -- you got your body cut open! I was tempted when I was still in the liquid to soft food stage. Once you're on a solid diet - you can eat A LOT more and it is SO much easier. I was a sugar and carb addict before surgery and now I do NOT even want them. There are so many healthy options that taste amazing and your stomach/pouch is so small - you will get full eating them. You can google around and see if you can find recipes that are low-carb, low-sugar and low-fat that mimic your favorite foods.. Try those instead! It is mind over matter. Do NOT let this surgery be a waste. Many people can not afford to have it and/or their insurance won't pay for it... they'd love to be in your shoes. Will power. Will power. Will power. Good luck! You got this! I believe in you! Like I said, I was where you are (brutal, nagging cravings) -- a few weeks ago but have totally changed my mindset.
