2nd Fill and food getting stuck
Since you have vomited a few times, it wouldn't hurt to do liquids for a couple of days to allow any swelling to go down. But after you've allowed things to rest, if you are still having trouble with solids, you should check back with your doctor.

3 week post op food (what do you eat and how much?)
And that's the hardest thing - Unfortunately, for most of us, "satisfied" is a head thing more than a physical thing. I ran into that very early after moving to soft foods. I ate the recommended amounts for my meals in the recommended time frame (about 20 minutes) and my brain said MORE!! But when I checked my hunger level, I realized that I was no longer physically hungry. So I had to overrule my brain and say "No, I have had all I need." It is not easy, especially when you are a volume eater, as I was, but it does get easier.

3 week post op food (what do you eat and how much?)
The Wendy's chili is probably ok if you are sure to chew it very well. Your breakfast sounds like too much to eat at one time, to me. Maybe 2 eggs OR oatmeal, but not both for one meal. Your best guide is your physician's and/or nutritionist's instructions.

Friday Morning Weigh Ins - 16th January 2009
Last week: 247.2 This week: 245.8 Lost 1.4 lbs I'm out of town visiting my parents for a couple of weeks, and I'm determined to stay on target as much as possible. I won't be able to get in my daily Curves workouts, but they have a stationary bike and I brought along some resistance bands - let's see if they ever come out of my suitcase! lol

Full liquids and protein?
The Protein Blitz drinks are not in the least bit milky. Give those a try if you can find them. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Full liquids and protein?
See if you can find Protein Blitz by Designer whey. These are ready-to-drink Protein drinks that, to me, are like drinking Kool-Aid. They come in Grape, Orange Mango, and Fruit Punch. A 20 ounce bottle contains 30 g of protein, 120 calories, 0 fat, 1 g of sugar, and are lactose free. Vitamin Shoppe and GNC carry them. Another you might try is Isopure. They are also clear, fruit-flavored ready-to-drinks, but I didn't like the taste of them nearly as much as I liked Protein Blitz.

what is sliming and pb?
PB is "productive burp", which often happens when some food gets stuck and won't go through the stoma, usually accompanied by sliming, which is thick saliva produced by the body to try to help move whatever is stuck. PBing is different than vomiting in that when you vomit, food that has already passed through the band into the lower stomach moves back up through the band. You want to avoid vomiting, but PBing occurs fairly often if you are too tight, don't chew well, or eat a "problem food". Here's a list of commonly used abbreviations: Lap Band Surgery and Lap Band Discussion Forum - FAQ: Lap-band Abbreviations

Thread Starter indicator
I was just about to ask this same question. I noticed that the "Thread Starter" designation stopped appearing during the last week. I miss it, too! As Marianne said, it is a useful addition to threads, especially longer ones.

Friday Morning Weigh-In: January 9, 2009
I'm a little confused. I've always thought that the numbers after the decimal point in our weights refer to tenths of a pound, but I've noticed most here referring to them as ounces. But aren't there 16 ounces in a pound? So, if my math is correct, each tenth of a pound is just over 1 1/2 ounces - give yourself credit for every little bit you've lost!!

Looking for Bandsters in NW Houston
11 am is fine. You know, I've been dying for some French onion soup from La Madeline. Would there be ok? I'm pretty easy. Might be a good idea to exchange cell numbers too (in PMs of course!)

How much is a normal fill?
Yeah, there is really no such thing as "normal" when it comes to fills. There are so many different factors that come into play. Make sure, when you go for your fill, that you can express to your doctor how you have been doing with hunger and eating. Be able to answer these questions about yourself: How much do you eat at a time? How soon after eating do you feel hungry again? How long does it take you to eat a meal? What are you eating? All of those things will help your doctor determine an appropriate fill for you.

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
Well, the thing is, the 5DPT isn't really for "new bandsters". It is for people who have already advanced beyond the post-op diet progression back to solid foods as set forth by their doctors. It is short-term kick in the pants to help regain control and set you back on the path. Maybe the nay-sayers are under the mistaken notion that the 5DPT is supposed to "shrink" your pouch. While the website says that the test can help you "return to that tight newbie feeling," I can't find anywhere in the site that claims it actually shrinks the pouch. What it DOES say, over and over again, is that the Test is a way to get back to compliant eating and to become more aware of your pouch again. And who could possibly have a beef about that??? Some quotes from the 5DPT site: "(Patients) report their pouch does not feel the same tightness as it did early post-op when the pouch was new and they were compliant with the prescribed way of eating. When patients do the 5 Day Pouch Test they are most often surprised to feel the pouch again simply by returning to the way of eating that worked in the first place after surgery." (from the FAQS) "If a person is feeling out of control with their eating, feeling like they have failed at weight loss surgery and gaining weight then drastic action is necessary. This plan allows that individual to take control in 5 days and exchange destructive eating behavior for appropriate eating behavior that results in feeling good and weight loss. In addition, those who started the plan feeling hopeless and desperate come away with new confidence in their ability to work their surgical weight loss tool." (from the FAQS) I'm sorry you got jumped on over at OH. It's an awful feeling to have your excitement over finding something helpful and wanting to share it with others stomped on. But if it reaches even one struggling person who decides to give it a try, it was worth it!

You should check out the Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test that many of the contributors to this thread are doing. It's a short plan to help you get back on track and heading in the right direction.

What was your post-op diet like?
I too had a 3-week liquids-only stage. You just have to make up your mind that this is what it takes to be successful with your new tool. It's not easy, but it is certainly worth it. When I started feeling really light-headed and woozy after one week, I sat down and figured out how many calories I was actually getting in a day, and was shocked to see it was only 300. What worked for me was to add a higher-calorie Protein drink to the ones I was already using. That got my calories up to about 500 a day. Just that little bit made a difference in how I was feeling, and was within the parameters set by my doctor. And I wholeheartedly agree with RM; follow YOUR doctor's instructions.

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
I had my fill appointment today, which also happened to be 5 months and a day since my surgery, and I exceeded my goal of 50 pounds lost! Dr. Bonnor was very proud of me. I did not get a fill. I had decided before I went in that I didn't need or want one, and he agreed. I'm sure there is going to come a time down the line where I'm going to want a little more help from my band, but I'm doing fine now.
