January 7, 200917 yr  Does anyone here have United Health Care insurance? If so could you tell me if you had a hard time with getting the approval for the Lap-Band surgery?
January 7, 200917 yr Yes, I have United Healthcare PPO. I had my first Lapband seminar at the end of August 2008. My surgeon said he wanted everything done first, before he would even submit it to UHC. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and a bmi of 41. I went through 5 months of nutritional counseling with Diabetes of America and submitted 5 yrs of medical records showing being overweight. My surgeons office accidentally sent it in to UHC on Dec. 8th, 2008 without finishing my 6 month diet education or my psyc exam. They approved it, within a couple of days even with out those!! I just had my surgery yesterday morning. The insurance process was super smooth for me.
January 7, 200917 yr I also have UCH and was approved very quickly too, within about 2 weeks of my first appointment with my doctor. I was pleasantly surprised!
January 7, 200917 yr Have UHC as my secondary insurance and had no problem getting approval once they had the denial letter from my primary insurance, which excludes WLS from coverage. (That's a fun phone call to make to an insurance co: "could you please send my rejection quicker?") UHC only required a five-year weight history since I have a BMI over 40 and have been above 40 for five years.
