    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I’m 4 months post op and have lost 57 lbs. and keeping under 1000 calories. I know I could do better with my water and exercise. I had DS surgery and I started at 289 lbs. I think it has a lot to do with how much you have to lose every pound lost is better than gaining. Good luck

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

When was your surgery ? You should be EXTREMELY proud to lose 78 lbs BEFORE surgery. That is great ! Don't worry about .2 lbs. Our body weight fluctuates all day. Good luck ! You're doing great !
  4. Check out Bariatric Pal website. They have a lot of decent tasting foods and drinks with protein. I use a powdered Iced Coffee That has 20 grams and 2 cups of Fairlife 2% milk for another 26. So that's 46 right there. Good luck

    Taking Meds Post-op

I had DS 6 weeks ago and I was told that I shouldn't swallow anything larger than a tic-tac. This has been fine with most of my meds but one. I just cut in 1/2. Also, be sure to wait at least 2 hours after you take your regular meds before you take your vitamin because of absorption.
  6. Was there calcium in the multivitamin ? You can't take iron and calcium together. It diminishes the absorption of both. I usually wait at least 1 hour but usually 2-3.

    Anyone for August 2020

I had the DS which was recommended by my surgeon because of the amount of weight I wanted to lose (150 lbs) and because it is a surgery that is most successful for weight loss and the ability to keep it off. Granted it is more aggressive than the other surgeries but in the long run, I thought it was right for me. I would recommend researching the procedure, as well as the experience your surgeon has with this surgery. My doctor, Dr. Mitchell Roslin in Westchester, NY was extremely experienced and responsible for developing a revised version of DS. I had my surgery 6 weeks ago and feel great. I've lost 28 lbs. The malabsorption deficiency is greater and it means being on vitamins for the rest of your life, but I believe that is true for any bariatric surgery. Good luck with your decision!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

When that happened to me I’d take a few sips of liquid and it would pass

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I got some good protein drinks that are tasty and 15 grams of protein in 8 ounces. Forget where but just Google Bariatrics drinks or something like that. Good luck

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

I had surgery last Thursday and had similar experience. Yes it was frustrating. I think the staff has been so overworked the past six months they are burned out. I had pretty bad nausea and heartburn also. I wanted nothing to do with my phone or iPad that day so you’re doing good. Good luck!!

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

Hello - I'm having Duodenal Switch surgery on July 9th. My question is . . Since they pump your stomach with air, does it subside shortly after surgery ? I just wanted to know if I will need to wear a much larger blouse for my trip home from hospital and while recovering. I'm getting excited and nervous as it is only 2 weeks away. My doctor, Dr. Mitchel Roslin, doesn't require a 2 week liquid diet. What I need to do is eliminate all complex carbs which will reduce the size of my liver. The day before surgery is when I will be on clear liquids. Thank you in advance.

    July 2020 Surgery anyone?

July 9th for me! It was originally scheduled for mid-April but was canceled. I can't wait but nervous. First surgery ever in my 62 years.
  17. Hello - Finally got my surgery date - 7/09 - Yeah ! Can you give me your recommendations on the best tasting protein powder with 25-30 gr of protein per serving ? Thanks in advance !
  18. I'm having surgery at Northern Westchester Hospital. But will definitely be postponing. Like others have said - a hospital is not where you want to be right now.
  19. I'm in NY and my hospital has cancelled all elective surgery until 04/15. My surgery is scheduled for 04/16 but unless a major miracle happens I doubt my surgery will happen. Not sure I'd want to anyway at this point. I'll have to wait a few months and hopefully all will be good then. Good luck to you all.
  20. My DS surgery is scheduled for 04/16 and have not received cancellation notice yet but I'm sure it's coming. I'm in NY, Westchester county. I'm going to cancel anyway because even if I have surgery, what if I develop complications post op and can't get to an Dr/ Hospital or ER? Something to think about
  21. Curious as to how long the surgery takes. Thanks.
  22. I'm scheduled on 4/16 for Duodenal Switch surgery. I've just been reading up on everything I can on the procedure and this forum to help reduce anxiety. I have started buying chicken and beef broth and will try to have everything I need for the various diet stages. Yes, I'm a little nervous too. The only surgery I've had is the removal of tonsils and that was 56 years ago lol. I watch too many medical TV shows and worry about complications during surgery. Hang in there !
  23. Hello - I'm having DS surgery mid to late April. I live alone in an in-law apartment in my son and daughter-in-law's home. Did anyone need any help from anyone in the initial healing process? They just had a baby so I don't want to be a burden to them too much. So if you did need help - how often and with what? Thanks in advance for your help. This is a great forum!
