@MaybeMeowSending positive thoughts and vibes your way. SUPER excited and at peace for surgery tomorrow. I’ve been doing my last minute stuff too and making sure I’ve got everything. Add in some YouTube videos for a little more of what to expect. Honestly I can’t believe surgery is tomorrow. Looking forward to being on the losers bench with you!

That sounds good but I believe that's post-op...wasn't OP asking about pre-op?
Here's a summary of what I was told for pre-op:
DO's: Non-starchy vegetables, lean meat, clear and full liquids. At least 90 grams of Protein per day, less, than 50 grams of carbs, and less than 1000 calories. 64 oz of Fluid minimum.
DON'T's: No added sugar, no high-carb foods (pasta, rice, bread, Cereal, potatoes, corn), no sweets of any kind, avoid fruit, and NO caffeine.
I'm honestly not having a hard time with it now, I'll be at 1 week tomorrow. I do miss bread sometimes and wish I could eat fruit (I do add frozen berries to my Protein Shakes as flavoring, and throw a few into my Greek yogurt, but that's it). They told me the whole goal was to shrink the liver (it sits right above the stomach) by using a low-carb diet. Plus side, I've already lost more than 5 pounds. I also think this is shrinking my stomach and getting my body accustomed to eating less.
I still think that my first two weeks post-op are going to be a challenge. I'm supposed to have only liquids, starting with clear but adding in full as soon as I tolerate them. I hope that what I've heard about not feeling very hungry at all after surgery is true, else I'll really be miserable!

Mine told me that the liquid from Protein Shake 'counts' towards my 'total fluids'. I was sleeved on 6/3. Yesterday, Water was hard and Protein Shakes were easy; today, it's the exact opposite. I'm just trying to roll with it! I'm using a timer on my phone to keep sipping every 4 mins. Good luck!!!

Hi Gang! Well, my surgery is at 1:45 tomorrow! (unless I get a call saying it's moved earlier). Today is bag packing day and setting things up for my friend to care for my kiddo while hubs and I are in the hospital. So relieved he can stay with me. Worried last night about a possible UTI. I get 2-3 a year. Took an at-home test this morning and it was negative thank goodness. But feeling the twinges. Wondering what happens if you get one right after catheter? Never had one and hear they can cause them. Particularly in those prone. Anyway, maybe just irritation from the 90 ozs of drinkable Protein I'm guzzling each day? Hoping nothing gets in the way of getting this DONE. Sending allllllll the good stuff out to you guys!!! And I'll take some in return. ONWARD!!!!

You got this! I'm also prone to UTI's, so I feel your concern. I think worst if you get one would just be setting you up with antibiotics like usual and try to force liquids even more. Sending good energy your way. Keep us updated!!

MaybeMeow got a reaction from Lily66 in My Surgeon gave me a choice to choose my surgery: Sleeve vs. Bypass vs. RNY
My BMI is 36 with my only co morbidity being GERD and I'm getting the Bypass. I admit I felt the same way. I wanted a Sleeve. Surgeon recommended the other. Said I could decide. Then he said this. Sleeves lose an average of 70% of their excess weight. So you would go down to about 170. Well I was 170 eight years ago and I felt fat then. I wanted more. So after a couple sleepless nights I decided Bypass. I think the straw than broke the camels back was that and the fact that the surgeon said "I can't tell you for certain which is the better choice for you. But I can say with certainty that the Bypass will cure your GERD." So there you go. I'm still nervous about it. My surgery is in 2 days. BEst of luck with your choice.

Initially I was head set on the Sleeve. When my surgeon asked if I ever have GERD and I replied “yes, once in awhile”, he drew a picture of what happens when GERD takes place with Sleeve (increased pressure in a much smaller pouch, that raises serious discomfort, and risk of potentially serious esophageal damage.) He went on to say if your tests indicate serious reflux issues I WON’T perform Sleeve on you. If they show minor issues, I’ll do Sleeve if you still choose to, but caution you it may result in a revision up the road if GERD persists. I would much rather you go through WLS surgery once and not have to do it twice.
He encouraged me to leave him, start the battery of testing and do more research. When I learned that RNY is still considered the Gold Standard of WLS, with the longest history of success, risks very low, slight potential for greater weight loss due to malabsorptive feature, my mind was well on its way to RNY. Three months out and No regrets, not at all. Challenges with both, but to be expected.
Many Sleevers are very happy and have done amazing, too! It’s your personal makeup that, along with recommendations from your Dr. that will guide you.
Mine is only one story. Good luck! I loved the excitement😃 and anticipation at the stage you’re in—-Enjoy the Journey!💖

The hollow could also be gas. Speaking as someone who suffers from IBS and reflux hollow is how I might decribe gas pains that isn't moving. And maybe yes also similar to the acid in stomach feeling. Does it help when you drink or eat? My program allows you to add watered down cream of wheat, Jello etc.

Edited to say it could also just be swelling. Will take weeks for you stomach to heal. Hope it improves each day.

Tomorrow morning is the big day for me!! I am so excited and so freaking nervous. My husband has been on night shifts this week, so I've been up all night with him. I am really hoping I can get myself to sleep at a normal hour tonight so I am not so exhausted tomorrow and don't spend tonight feeling miserably hungry from having to fast.

Today we went out and purchased some mini milk (0.4% fat), cocio one, and skyr to be ready for the liquids when I get home from the hospital. There is a mention about blended Soup but the recipe link isn't working, so will have to ask about it and pick up some things on the way back.

How is everyone feeling post op atm? Any hunger pains?

@havethree you're doing great! Thank you so much for sharing those details. They really help the rest of us prepare mentally. Keep sippin and Walkin. I'm so impressed with how smoothly it's going for you!
Hi all. I'm getting nervous. 4 days and counting. So I'm trying to stay busy prepping. Today's prep was making Protein Jello Shots and Protein pudding shots. sugar free strawberry Jello with genpro powder mixed in. I have 25 one-ounce "shots" that have 2 grams of protein a piece. Saving them for post op. The pudding is Fage fat free Greek blended with sugar free vanilla pudding. Each oz has 3 grams protein. Will use them starting post op day 3 to help me get thru clear and full liquids. I'll attach a pic. Took about 40 minutes to prep. I'm not much of a cook or meal planner but this was easy. How is everyone else prepping and feeling?

Well hellOOOO, @Lici Surgery twin! I've been hoping to find one. I too got "surprised" by my June 9th date. Which is probably good cuz less time to over-think. I love that you shared what you're bring in your hospital bag. Getting that together will be next on my list. Congrats and best of luck. Can't wait to compare journeys on the OTHER side of this hurdle.

Hi Bypassers! Wanna role call so we can keep track?

I'm MaybeMeow. 222 pounds and 5'5". 47 years old. First goal is 165. Hoping eventually for 150. Bypass is 4 days away on June 9th. Chose it with my surgeon instead of sleeve due to lifelong reflux. I'm very nervous.
Pre-op diet has my stomach going crazy as I don't usually do artificial sweeteners and I think that's what causing the runs. And I'm struggling with the low carb headaches. But I'm staying postiive!! Distracting myself with daily prep.
