Nicole0615 reacted to loridee11 in 3 months post op
I am almost 3 months post RNY (Tuesday will be the official 3 month day). Today I am feeling really good about where I am. I am down 41.8 lbs since surgery (83.4 since starting). In addition I have a few great NSVs:
Lost over 25" total (including 5" off my waist and 4.5" off my hips) My arthritis pain in my knees is virtually gone I am walking 2 miles a day with ease Almost all my clothes are too big. A bunch I've had to pull to donate because they simply aren't wearable, and the rest are getting close. When we are out of social isolation I'm going to need to do some shopping before going back to the office. In addition, I had my 3 month group appointment last week and was released to drink caffeinated coffee again (just need to ensure I don't add a lot of high calorie items). SO Excited.
I hope everyone else is doing well in their journey and staying positive during this trying time!

Nicole0615 reacted to catwoman7 in How much weight did you loose your first month after surgery?
almost everyone has their first major stall within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. It's called the "three week stall", because it usually happens the third week, but not always But it's almost always within that 4-6 weeks post-op time period. Just stick to your program and will break. Mine lasted two weeks. Grrr. But then once my weight loss started up again, I dropped like 6-8 lbs within a couple of days.
  3. Thanks

My average weight loss is 14 a month. My neighbor saw me for the first time yesterday and said Wow, you have lost a lot of weight, you look great! That made me feel great!

Less pain with sleeve than with c-section.... but I actually had a lot less energy after the sleeve. I was able to get up and do a lot of walking after all three c-sections, whereas with the sleeve I had to go to a store with shopping carts to lean on to do a lap. Weird, right? But then again... I had a brand new baby after each of my c-sections to provide a wonderful distraction.

I haven't had any problems with them. Been drinking spicy hot V8 since full liquids. Also I have cucumber in my shrimp cocktail. & I use a ton of tomatoe based sauces.
One of my faves right now is marinnera meat sauce made w/ Italian seasoned turkey meat.

Nicole0615 reacted to VIN_IN_AL in PLEASE HELP the skeptic in me. Doesn't starving = eventual weight gain??
The restricted calorie intake is only for the first couple of months until your stomach has healed, and you are eventually able to eat a normal diet, just in smaller amounts of food “per sitting”. However just because your stomach is much smaller, you can still pack a hefty number of calories by the end of the day and eventually GAIN weight post-op. You must think of the surgery as a tool and not a “cure all” answer to lifelong weight management. Please review the information in the link below, I am sure the info will help answer many of the “what do I / can I eat” questions, it did for me.

Alright, I'm not posting as much as many of ya'll, but I'm still around and reading - kudos to all of you for the hard work! Progress update on this end: Surgical date: 1/6/20 (VSG) - weight 310.5. Weight check this morning was 275.6. YEAH BABY!
The hardest thing for me has been finding things that don't leave my stomach feeling "heavy" (I don't know how else to describe it). I'm doing lots of soup/stews and eggs (which are easy for me fortunately). Without getting too graphic let me suggest everyone stay on top of their Fiber supplements. Constipation is NOT fun. For those struggling, stool softeners will be your friend.
Continued good luck to you all!

Speaking of how little we can eat...I love love love how much money I’m saving on food!!! Living in NYC I had become a delivery food junky. Every day was logging on to grubhub to see what’s for lunch or dinner or both. We were averaging $40/day, sometimes more. That’s over $1,000/month on restaurants alone. I deleted all food apps from my phone and am truly loving being in the kitchen trying out the recipes posted here. Thank you peeps!!

Unjury makes a chicken broth flavored Protein Powder that you mix with warm Water. And several companies make an unflavored Protein powder that you can mix with anything...

It's tough at first, but hang in there and it WILL get better. Can you have Protein Shakes? That will go a long way to filling you and relieving hunger. I was allowed diluted fruit juice and it helped also.
Also give thought to the fact that it may be head hunger rather than true hunger. If you think it's head hunger try to distract yourself with a good book or movie! Good luck--you got this!

You can Water down your drinks (protein shakes? ) Until they ate palatable!
Bonus points for meeting hydration recommendations easier 🌈

I feel you on the sweet stuff. I like taking a can of chicken noodle Soup and straining off all the broth and drinking that instead of another sweet shake. Also, if you're a thai food fan, straining Tom Kha Gai soup and drinking the broth is AMAZING.

Try sipping on some broths to get that sweet taste out of your mouth. I know what you mean--after a while you can't stand that taste! It will get easier when you can add the "mushies" to your diet. Hang in there!

Nicole0615 reacted to Healthy_life2 in What's something you wish you had known before losing all the weight?
What I wish I knew before I had surgery five years ago.
When vets told me you will be able to eat more as you progress was so true.
Working on the mental battles of weight loss was not easy. Overcoming my behaviors was one of the best gifts out of surgery. They are not 100% gone. I manage them much better.
I'm older 45 day of surgery - 51 now. All the stress over vanity was a bit ridiculous for me. Honestly, I look better not obese. My loose skin is livable and I have gained muscle weight lifting. It has filled out the skin a bit. I looked into plastics twice. I backed out both times. I am happy with my body and rock my old fart self.
Transitioning to maintenance was not what I had expected.

    4. Wish i would have known that others piss me off the way they eat
4.5 Wish i would have know that i would get addicted to this forum, Protein powders and new tricks to get healthy
    5. and the most important thing .... Wish i would have know how good and healthy i would feel after surgery, weight loss and getting healthy .....YOU KNOW WHY....i would have done this 15 years ago!
