I second that, Notorious Newvembers. I think that one is pretty cool.

I sure hope I can be with you guys and be more confident. I'm such a wallflower now, and I've lost a large amount of weight before (~100lbs) and I turtled even moreso than I do as the big girl (even with that weight loss, I was still a size 16.) So given how I reacted to the attention I received then, I'm somewhat trepidacious. I was thinking that I should have more than enough time to really deal with it psychologically, but I haven't even had the surgery yet and I've already lost over 40lbs (which I am ecstatic about, don't get me wrong!) Maybe I should start another blog entry.. This is going to be the longest comment ever.. hah

Once I have the drawing all done and coloured in I may scan it, if I do I'll post a pic. It'll be probably a good 3-5 years before I actually get it done. I want to make sure any surgeries involving my back are done and healed. And I actually thought of a suggestion for a group name (shocking I know, especially since I feel about one step above a zombie right now. ) How about Supernovas? (I'm a huge astronomy geek, hehe)

I add "licious" to the end of everything, haha. I like the Lap-band o'licious. I wish I could contribute but I've expended all of my creative energy thinking up, drawing and painting what will be my back piece tattoo once I've lost all the weight. Hehehe.

Eep, yay! Finally a November forum! I've been waiting for months for this! I kind of like Notorious, but I like the idea of NOvembers, too. I'm the most indecisive person alive though. Oh I'm just happy that this is finally here. Yay! Any word on a surgery date yet, Froggi?

    Musicians and music lovers

Oohh, definitely count me in. My first instrument was the guitar when I was five and I've been picking up instruments ever since. I'm a bit of a one-woman-band as over the course of the last 23 years I've learned so many different instruments. I love, love, love music. Performing, writing, talking about - love it all! I have to admit too, I've been too embarassed at my current size to play for anyone anymore so I'm secretly excited about the prospect of being comfortable enough in my own skin to get infront of a crowd and play in a band again.

    Ahem...very personal :)

I almost spit my Water out at that. Hahaha. I wonder how many times it has been added, then deleted to TDP.. :blushing:
  9. Yes, what you heard is correct. That recall affects one distributor only, which is Baxter, and it is from one of their production facilities in China. The big scare was from earlier this year as no steps were put in place to monitor output activity and health and safety regulations from 2004 until January of 2008, which is why the recall was such a huge deal. From what I've read the risk is significantly reduced now, but definitely something to keep an eye on, especially if your Heparin or LMWH (low molecular weight Heparin) is a Baxter product. The bruising is completely normal with Heparin and LMWH shots. I had six HUGE bruises all over my abdomen and it looked like someone beat me up. However, the concern with the recall is that it has been tied to anaphylactic reactions, which can be very dangerous. Anytime you start a new prescription and you have any kind of reaction that does not seem normal to you (even if it is in the literature that accompanies the prescription) definitely get it checked out by the doctor. Better safe than sorry, and hey, that's what they get paid for! And just to cover my ass, I'm not a doctor, nurse or medical professional. I just unfortunately have DVT that almost killed me and I know entirely too much about this stuff.. hehe But that said, if you have questions, especially if you are symptomatic, always always see your doctor. :Angel_anim:
  10. Thank goodness you were already on anti-coag therapy, I'm currently on warfarin as well for a DVT that developed in March (it's why I can't go for surgery until November.) I ignored my symptoms too and now have a clot that spans from just about my ankle to my groin in my left leg. Has your doctor mentioned anything to you about getting genetic testing done? I'd imagine that if you developed a DVT while being on anti-coagulants there has to be some underlying reason for it. I'm a carrier for Protein C Resistancy and I'll be doing my genetic testing in October to find out if I'm a carrier for or have any other activated thrombotic disorders. Thank goodness you didn't wait or do what a lot of people do and assume it was a charlie horse (like I did)! Best of luck to you in your recovery.

OK ladies... I have a questions about the drive...

I haven't been banded yet, but I've lost 30lbs since I quit smoking in January (as part of a whole self improvement thing) and since then it's been all "HELLO LIBIDO!" I'm chalking it partly up to losing some weight, partly up to living a healthier lifestyle/being more active and more than likely partly up to the good ol' biological clock (which has magically sprung to life in the last couple of months. I blame Hollywood.)

    Tampons or Pads.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only who has to do that. I've been plagued with the perpetual period, pretty much non-stop for the last year. Though when it's not that time of the month it's just light spotting/flow, when it IS that time of the month it's like the flood gates have been opened. I sometimes even go so far as to double up and do one of the long, overnight ones, turned around, and then one of the smaller ones perpendicular to it. (I've seriously debated Depends. How sad is that??) I will be SOOOOOO glad to be done with all this unopposed estrogen! Though I'm pretty sure Always will go bankrupt once I return to having normal periods.

I am so sick of being single!

I probably watch entirely too much Sex and the City, but I figure the right one will come along eventually and in the mean time, bootycalls are a wonderful thing. I spent years so determined to find "the one" that I missed out on all kinds of fun in the interim and drove myself crazy. So I'm praising the bootycall and enjoying (what's left of!) my 20s as a single girl and I'm learning to not obsess over finding Mr. Right. (One thing I've found with POF in particular, I have better luck clicking with people when I go to the meets than going on one on one dates. Maybe it's something to do with being in a large group of people, I have no idea, but I find I'm way more successful that way.) :biggrin2:

Froggi bless you for your curiousity, this thread totally made my day. Though if you can consume around 1/2 a cup of food at a time, and you're worrying about it causing problems going down.. I think your boyfriend could make a killing in the porn industry. I swear, I read an article on guys who get paid (and well!) just to do the massive money shot!
  16. I was originally going to go with Medicard for financing (but opted for another route instead) and it's my understanding with them that their financing works basically like a line of credit. They give you the cash, you give it to whichever doctor you choose to use, and then you have the option of keeping it open to use for other surgeries (PS, etc.) or you pay it off and close out the account. It is also "transferrable" between family members. (They use the word transferrable, but since it works like a line of credit, it's still in your name, and you basically just give the money to whichever medical establishment the procedure for your family member is.) They didn't care that I was having the surgery done in Mexico. Money is money is money to them.. hehe
  17. I'm a newbie, be gentle. I'm 28, from Canada, tentatively going for surgery down Mexico-way in November. I was wanting it done sooner but ended up developing DVT as a result of taking the pill to combat all the unopposed estrogen going through me as a result of all the extra weight I'm carrying. I'm now on blood thinners until at least September. It's a vicious cycle. Gotta love it, eh? So I figured I'd pop in here and do the introductions thing, before I start randomly popping up into other peoples posts with a million questions.

    Hello hello hello.

I've started not a diet per se, though I refer to it as the pre-pre-op diet, but just cutting down carbs (I've reduced my carb intake by about 80% in the last three weeks) and eliminating caffeine and carbonated drinks, and I'll spend the next couple of months working on reducing portion size and working on the not drinking during meals thing. Definitely a bonus of having the surgery months from now, I have lots of time to read through peoples experiences and try out different things and see what works for me. I'll definitely be joining in on the challenges! This is my year to change me. I quit smoking January 18th and now I'm working on losing the weight, excersizing more (which is becoming a lot easier -30lbs) and breaking out of the "wallflower" mentality. I think that's the hardest, for me.

    Wii Fit

I've been trying to find a Wii Fit for the last two weeks. There are some out there to be had, but man, trying to find one that doesn't cost you an arm, leg and half of your soul is impossible. I was going to do the eBay route, but paying those jacked up prices PLUS shipping? Ouch! The store that I bought my Wii at said that the Wii Fits are on back order until November (there anyways.) I watched this one website update a list of online retailers that sell them and as soon as I saw one that said "In stock" I clicked on the link, by the time I went to hit "add to cart" they were sold out. Crazy crazy crazy. I don't know how effective the hula hoop will be sans an arm and a leg..

    Hello hello hello.

Thank you for the welcome gone 4 ever and TexGal. I'm the painfully shy type, even on the internet, and it's taken me two weeks to work up the nerve to post a reply back. I've got my surgery date officially booked now for Nov 5th though, which seems soooooo far away, but at least I have lots of time to prepare for it. (And lots of time to work up to posting more.. hehe) Thanks again for the welcome!
