The Michigan Bariatric Surgery Collective has a database of WLS outcomes, and they created a calculator that takes into account your height, weight, age, and gender to estimate your weight loss for each type of WLS. Of course, this is only an average and any individual's results can vary, but it should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

The amount of weight you end up losing with VSG depends on a number of things: diet, exercise, lifestyle, your overall commitment to changing bad habits, and the size of the pouch your surgeon makes can make all the difference in your overall weight loss.
Statistically I was told VSG has an average of 50-70% excess weight loss. But that statistic includes the people who work their tails off to improve their result, the people who follow the guidelines but don't go over the top, the people who mostly follow the guidelines, and those who don't follow their guidelines at all.
I'm sure that if you do everything you're supposed to do you could get above the 50-70% excess weight loss because there are several people on this site who were able to do it.
If you go by statisics you'd lose about 75-105 pounds. But I'm sure with hard work you could lose a lot more than that! Everyone's body works differently. Some people lose fast while others lose slow. I'm one of the slow ones... but I've still lost 151 pounds and am still losing even if it's only 1-3 pounds a week (I lost two pounds this week).
Congrats on your upcoming surgery and I wish you the best!

Sleeved 6/8. My doctor said yes to shrimp and melted cheese. I've ate Shrimp 2x. Both times I was only able to eat 2 pieces.

I’m 5 weeks post op today. I lost zero pounds week 3 and 4, which was discouraging but I anticipated happening. Down 4 this morning so I think my stall has broken! Down 34 total and feeling really great.

We are surgery twins. My weight loss has for sure slowed down. I'm sure it will pick back up and even out for us.

Waiting for my insurance approval so I can scheduled. My DR doesn’t see any delays due to the surgery being performed at a surgery center

It's official! My surgery date is April 7th! I'm having VSG and also getting my nasty ol' gall bladder removed. I start my pre-op diet on March 28th - 10 days, but it's not too bad. It's kind of like the Slim Fast plan - 2 shakes and a sensible dinner (plus lots and lots of water!)
I'm beyond excited! And also nervous and anxious and all that other stuff!

All I have left is my final nutrition class which is scheduled Monday (16th) and then all my information will be submitted to insurance. Ahhhhhh... It is getting closer. I'm getting a little nervous now!!!
Packing for the hospital... Comfy clothes (I live 3 hours from where I'll be having surgery), phone charger, lotion (hospitals dry me out), body/facial wipes, deodorant/body spray, hairbrush, tooth brush/paste, dry Shampoo, and hair tie.

@doublepau I know it can be somewhat controversial and some don't agree with them but my surgeon's office is actually very "for" them. I use the multi Vitamin Patch. One a day. And then I take 1 pepcid a day. Once I am able to get things down better, I do plan on taking regular ones along with the Calcium and all that, but for now I'm sticking with the patch.
