I just took a vacation. Going back tomorrow, and it’ll be difficult, but luckily I’ll be able to gauge my activity since I’ll have a bunch of emails and paperwork to catch up on.

I am in the same boat. It has eased up a bit. I tried a new Protein Drink and I try to keep moving to get everything down

I went through a real low mood period post op where i cried a lot and felt very depressed. I thought id never enjoy food again.
My relationship with food is very very different now - things can be too sweet! Never thought THAT was possible, I hate meat, it makes me feel uncomfortable in my stomach and grosses me out. I dont generally enjoy food unless its actually something really really good. And i mentally have to know its healthy too or the joy is all gone.

Head hunger is 100% real and probably the most difficult part - even though i dont necessarily want food, when im bored i just eat. Ive learnt the way to help me say no to things is to think about their taste (weird concept i know!). For example, theres a chocolate cake on the table in the staff room I know what choc cake tastes like... so i dont need to eat it! Works well for me

I binged after every nutritional appointment (6months). It wasn’t until I stopped going that I actually lost a few lbs.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was having such problems with my lap band having slipped that I wasn't able to binge much before my revision surgery. I DID manage to eat a nice piece (or two) of cheesecake, which promptly made me barf, but it was worth it!

I had my surgery August 15th so almost six months out and I have not had a bowl of Pasta or a piece of pizza since my surgery however I had my share of both the week before the pre-op diet and I have no regrets having attended my own little food funeral, I enjoyed every bite and at this point if I hadn't indulged in my faves back then I would have wished I did.

I started soft pre-op diet approx a month before surgery. I did one Meal Replacement shake for breakfast and one for lunch then had a smaller meal for dinner (usually chicken, some steamed vegetable and a side sallad) and a small snack in the evening. I also drank Protein Shakes since I found one that I really like. (It tastes like milk without the fatty consistency.)
Actually, I was very glad I did this. It proved to me that I could eat this way and feel like im living a full life.

I start my pre op diet next Saturday. I have done very well on the three month period losing about 10 pounds. For the next week I plan to go to my favorite Thai and Italian restaurants as well as make some really good meals: steak and potatoes, creamy casseroles, etc. During the liquid phase I will make some meals up for my husband for later as well as some Soups that I can puree when I get to that stage.

I did that along the way. My therapist recommended doing one a week so it’s more like a cheat meal than a freak out. Than I could enjoy the meal and not feel guilt. I get really sick on Keto (which is what my preop liquid diet was) so I decided to start Jan 2 eating keto food so that I can get over the keto flu before going back to work. On Jan 13 I started liquid and it went really well. My surgery was Jan 27, so I’m a week out tomorrow. My doctor said my liver looked really good, but I had been doing keto for almost a month (he has us do keto to shrink our liver).

I say all that to say this- BE CAREFUL. Going crazy over food will make you feel deprived when you start liquid. Say goodbye and make peace with it but don’t binge.

Ugh. I am there right now! I start my pre-op A week from today and I have this whole week planned with my favorite dinners. I'm trying really hard not to go too crazy but it's a little hard. I'm trying to be very careful for Breakfast and lunch so that I can enjoy my dinner. And it's not horrible food but things I won't be eating post-op like meals with potatoes, pastas and that type of thing.

    Hi All,
I am 25, and will be getting my sleeve in a month. What I am most worried about is my mental state afterward, and finding things to do when I can't eat. What are some new things that you have tried since your surgery?

I bought a Dog! and Travel to remote places. My view is you have Pre OP head games already started, Do not panic it will be the best decision you make, Start focusing on the good things that will come from it, I cross fit and stay busy so do not worry you will find something to do. You can always find a partner and keep buys with them.

I am 10 days Post-OP from a sleeve and I have little hunger. I am more thirsty than hungry most days. I do have some head hunger, but nothing like before surgery.

You have to find other sources of pleasure. Just make sure they are healthy ones. There seems to be a point where people become a bit impulsive after WLS. Maybe it has to do with more energy, feelings of empowerment, feeling more comfortable in social settings, gaining control back, I don't know. Some go on shopping binges, some start bad habits like gambling or drinking, or even using drugs. I have felt this, too. I really have to watch my shopping, and I have never been a shopper - never. I try to exercise, even if it is only a 10 minute walk, when I feel stressed, anxious, or upset. That's all it takes to get my brain in a better place. I have also read more books this year than every before - mostly on health, diet, exercise, and lifestyle. You will still have the emotions - you just have to redirect the behavior so that you aren't trying to eat yourself to a better place. We all know how well that works!

Pilates and running up large credit card bills buying cute smaller clothes.
When you can drink Protein Drinks and have popsicles, soft food will come soon. Before you know it, you'll probably be able to eat a lot of the things you like, just in different preparations and smaller portions. Your taste for unhealthy food may change too.
