ResaRoo got a reaction from 1JoAnne in February 2020 Post-Op Thread
Struggling to get in all my Protein. I can’t seem to tolerate the shakes since surgery. They don’t stay down very well and taste awful now. What is everyone else doing to get enough protein? Any good recipe ideas?

Since many of us are mostly home-bound with public spaces and schools closed, does anyone have any good exercise apps or videos they can recommend? I asked a few friends, but all of their suggestions were more appropriate for those who are already fairly active fit and not overweight.

I find I’m cold most of the time now, too. Especially just after eating.

I can do relate to you. The weird weight gains and slow losses are frustrating. I’ve been using happy scale to track weight loss, so I can see a slow loss is happening. It’s just frustrating because I was losing faster on a higher calorie diet before the surgery than I am now. My nut has told me not to worry and that things will start happening soon. It’s hard to be patient, though. Especially when reading that the first 2-3 months after are when you experience the greatest weight loss. And at almost a month out, I haven’t lost a great deal at all. -

Yes, it’s 26 lbs now. But 25 of those were post op. I gained after surgery and it took 2 weeks to lose that. Now I’m down almost 2 lbs below my day or surgery weight. Aunt Flo just paid her monthly visit, so I’m not expecting any loss for at least another week. Blah. -

I am going to have to try upping my Water. Getting enough water has been my biggest challenge. I just don’t want it for some reason. I was 270 pre surgery 260 day of surgery (feb 26) and now I am 232lbs. I think I’m pretty close to where everyone else is at this point. I did think it would be faster though. 😐 Oh well starting to fit into some stuff that I haven’t worn in a while.

Had gastric sleeve surgery 2/17/20. I’m down 33 lbs since surgery, lost 20 lbs before surgery so I’m pretty happy. I’ve been working from home since mid March and am finding that walking twice a day has been really good for my weight loss and mental health. I just found this forum and am finding a lot of good information and encouragement here.

Well, I added nearly 1 litre of extra Water intake a day since Tuesday, and that seems to have gotten things moving again. I’ve lost 3 lbs since then! So excited after about a month long stall!

So my surgery was 2/25. I started on the day of surgery at 345. I am now down to 306. I feel a little discouraged almost 10 weeks in and having lost only about 40lbs. I am slowly, SLOWWWLLLYY losing weight. I do not feel very thirsty ever, and initally I was not very hungry. But now I do get hungry.
I don't even feel that much different.

Its good progress. I wouldn't worry too much I'm not. My surgery was 2/26 @ the same 345 and I've only lost 45 and I'm a guy. Weighed in today at 299.7 so officially in the twos.

I’m almost 90 days since surgery five days away. Weight loss has been going with a few stalls here and there. Been outside doing something weather permitting and using the treadmill when rains or lifting high reps low weight. I’m only doing about 480 to 600 calories a day. I really like the Protein Shakes That’s mainly what I consume daily as not very hungry. Maybe I will have one meal and 2 shakes a day or 3 shakes and a snack, carrots or almonds in a day.Always make Protein and Water I sweat through all of my clothing everyday make sure I have t shirt and sweatshirt on.
One of my big goals is to be 250 or lighter by Mid June for my son’s graduation.
Everyone keep working stay focused and safe! We will all succeed

Hey Guys, I am a bit late to the party after just finding this group. I had a RNY with minimiser ring on the 18th of Feb. Things haven’t gone as smoothly as expected, but it’s nice to see that I’m not alone after going through this topic. I’m down 58 pounds but am only managing 100-200 calories a day. Having constant nausea, no appetite and the thought of food repulses me. Getting a scope tomorrow, so hoping I will get some answers. If not, then will have to find a way to get used to this new norm. I hope everyone is well. All the best, L x

If weight loss is the reason I'm with sillykitty. It's too early. Be patient. With one or two meals a day maximum within a 4 h eating window you won't be able to get the nutrients in you need.

I had my first tele-health follow up from the surgery today. I spoke with a PA for about 20 minutes; It was very helpful, although in fairness I am not having any real issues. She is happy with the amount of my weight loss so far, happy that I am walking 10,000 steps per day, was happy with my water/protein numbers. I had done a weekly report from MFP on calories, Protein, etc. My average calories are just over 700, and the average protein is 67 per day, both of which she said were fine. She encouraged me to add some light weights, she said not to buy anything,, look online, and use full Water bottles as weights.
My program (Brigham/Womens in Boston) does not recommend counting calories, just lead with protein.
On a much more somber note, most of the hospital is now devoted to treating virus patients. She was calling from her home; she has a young child. She is returning to the hospital next week, in a different capacity. She said she is not entirely sure yet where, but clearly it will be dealing with hospitalized patients. I am embarrassed to say I broke down and cried while speaking with her; while I bemoan how bored I am and that I can't see my family and friends, these medical personnel are literally risking their own health. Thank you sure rings hollow. Least I can do is figure out how to help flatten the curve.
Hope you all are well! And staying safe.

ResaRoo got a reaction from CammyC in Wondering WHY I did it!
I had my surgery on feb 10. I had lost about 20lbs on the 3 week pre-op. I gained almost 10lbs from iv fluids and medicines. It took me over 2 weeks to lose those 10 lbs. I’ve since lost another 18lbs - in 5 weeks. I’d love for it to be faster, but any loss is great. I am also eating 600-700 calories a day. But I’m also not quite as active a I was in feb and March, what with the extreme cold weather and everything locked down. Sadly, some of us lose slower than others. That was the case for me before surgery. I always lost slowly, so continuing to lose slowly after surgery isn’t really all that surprising.

Something to consider:
You will be able to maintain 1000 calories a day quite easily. It might be much harder for your sister to do this once you’ve reached goal weight. You would have to push past full, or eat very frequently. Your sister would be able to eat 2-3 times as much at a sitting before feeling full. So while it makes sense you are both losing the same amount now, since your both eating the same amount of calories, I suspect it will be much harder for her to keep the weight off or fend off hunger pangs .

It's been a tough couple days. My wife was pregnant and we lost the baby a few days ago. Normally I would eat to cope but since I cant do that I'm having a tough time.
She had to have emergency surgery because of it and I've had to pick up the slack with our son. Guess I overdid it and am now having sharp pains under my right side incision.

Ummmmm, what? Are you suggesting that China, Italy, Spain, etc are all making up their sickness and death rates and slowing their economies just to make Trump look bad for the upcoming elections? Are you serious??
And honestly, anyone who currently supports Trump, despite his past comments and actions, is hardly likely to change their minds anytime soon. And many people vote party, not person.
Glad you have great immunity. Many in your community do not. And not everyone has great healthcare insurance in the event they get very ill or have after effects like compromised lungs. -
