  1. Fast Hair loss & Slow Weight Loss

I feel so far behind most of y'all posting on here. I'm only down about 60 lbs from my high, less than 40 lbs post-op. I'm aiming for 100g Protein per day, 900 cal total. And my hair is falling out like crazy, which I would understand if I was dropping weight quickly. I haven't stopped any of my medications yet either. Have your surgeons been sending you in for lab work frequently?

  2. I have Gerd I take 40mg of Prilosec a day before surgery 7/14 I had the sleeve. I was warned it could get much worse but it actually got better. I haven’t had heartburn once and I barely take my medicine anymore lol
I could have written this post. I'm in the same position, except my sleeve was 7/30. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. I'm still taking Omeprazole 40mg a day because my surgeon puts VSG patients on it for a month after surgery, but we're all hopeful I can stop taking it soon.

  3. Did research and ordered BariMelts and EZ melts Vitamins online. D3, Calcium plus, B12, multi vit, Iron with Vit C. Presently taking with Optifast liquid diet (2 wks liquid diet) till 27th and 28th of August is surgery date early a.m. One way of avoiding malnutrition/vitamin deficiency. These vitamins melts in your mouth. Also doing light exercise as well. First 2 days on liquid was rough, however 3rd day till present is all good with 48 oz no sugar, no calories liquid.
I tried the BariMelts multi and calcium, and I immediately HATED them. I hope they work out better for you.

  4. Y'all have convinced me to try straws again. Before surgery, I would drink around 120oz Water per day; after, I've been struggling to get 64oz and it's because I'm not constantly sipping water through my straw all day. It's much easier to just take a pull on a straw when I'm doing something else vs. opening a bottle and/or tilting my head back to take in drink.

  5. I'm 4 days out and just now feeling like the pain is manageable. I agree with the new stomach sensations. My tum is always gurgly and rumbly now, which I feel like I used to associate with hunger. So I'm feeling like I'm always hungry, even though I'm 100% sure that I'm not. It's quite annoying. Did anyone else go through that a few days after surgery? Did it go away? I hate feeling like I'm hungry constantly!
I'm in this stage right now! I would like answers too. I feel so hungry, and it's completely not what I expected.

  6. I feel super hungry too, which I didn't expect because the surgeon told me that they were removing the portion of my stomach that made me feel hungry. One of the main reasons I had surgery was so I wouldn't feel hungry all the time. Why is my stomach still growling?

  7. The desired weight is not what is used in this equation though. It is bone and muscle mass. That is determined usually by a special scale at the dr's office. If 145 was the weight of the bone and muscle mass then this equation would be correct. For example, I weighed 260 at the doctor's at my initial visit - the scale found 130 of that to be bone and muscle and the other 130 to be excess weight. So using the same formula, I'd lose 60% of 130, so 78 lbs, putting my "success" weight at 182. Does this help?

This is interesting to me. Due to COVID, almost all of my interaction with my doctor's office has been remote. The only time I went into the office was for my x-ray; I didn't get to use a special scale. Now I want to look into this.

But if you have low muscle mass before surgery and you build that up via exercise afterward, does that actually makes your goal weight a moving target?

  8. One of my first appointments with my doctor, I said I wanted to lose 100. I was currently at 257 at the time. He said he liked that goal. On surgery day, I was 249. I managed to get down to 241, but gained due to covid. I will be happy at 150, 130 tops..nothing lower, I'm 5'5.
I'm also 5'5" and these are my goals as well - 150 for sure, 130 if I can take it. Or, if I recall correctly, that would be about size 8-12.

  9. I got a call from my surgeon's office today saying they have to reschedule. ☹️

Fortunately it's only a one-week postponement (to July 30), but that means I have three weeks of pre-op diet. I'm so hungry right now. I really just want to tear into a plate of carbs. I'm not even that picky, pretty much any carbs would do. 🍟🍞🥨🍟🥞🥧🍩🍟🍪🍰🍟

  10. I'm in Texas, and I think my surgery will have to be postponed (Gov cancelled elective surgeries for the area I'm in), but my doctor won't confirm that yet. I started my pre-op liquid diet Thursday and I feel like I might just fall apart if I go through this for two weeks only to be told that my surgery is off, when I could have been told that on day 2. How long can you safely stay in ketosis?

  11. So I thought my July 23 surgery would be cancelled because Travis County, Texas, where my doctor's office is located, cannot have elective surgeries due to COVID. It turns out my hospital is in Williamson County, so I'm still on... but the governor is adding counties to the elective surgery ban as their hospital beds near capacity. Williamson County borders Travis County, so I'm proceeding as usual for now but my surgery might get cancelled at any time. I'm supposed to start my pre-op diet in a week.

  12. I was scheduled for July 23, but my governor just banned elective surgeries again. Now I have no idea when I'll be able to reschedule. I certainly don't want to be in a hospital with a bunch of COVID-19 patients, so I'm not really complaining. We shouldn't have opened as fast as we did. Just got my hopes up prematurely. 😞
