  1. Everyone is doing great! Are people who don't know you had surgery commenting on your weight loss yet? I thought for sure someone would say something at church today, but nope. I can tell for sure because I can wear clothes I haven't been able to wear in a few years. I was wearing an 18, and sometimes a 20, and now I'm wearing a 16. I guess that's just not that big of a change for people to notice, but it is to me!

My stats are up to date on my profile.

  2. Did the physicians in the hospital offer any clue to what caused the bleeding?

My surgeon doesn't prohibit caffeine, rather says a small amount is okay. I would definitely get a clarification from your surgery team and try to find out if caffeine was the culprit.

Sorry you had to go through that! I know it must have been very scary for you and quite perplexing since you had followed all post op rules.

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the forum and this is my first reply to a thread. I had VSG surgery January 27th, so I'm almost 3 weeks out. Physically I feel fine, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't missing food a lot!

I moved to pureed diet last Monday after 4 weeks all liquid and that first egg I ate was the best thing ever. Today I tried an egg with a runny yolk and thankfully it went down smoothly.

I did throw up for the first time last week when I ate a small piece of salmon, I think I ate it too fast, so I've definitely been a bit gun shy. Sounds like you guys are really brave with your diets, I'm scared to try all these new foods.

I also think I've hit my stall early, I only lost 2lbs last week which was really discouraging. But for now I'm focused on getting in my fluids and Protein Shake (premier protein), and getting food in around that, but between fluids and all the damn supplements I find I'm not hungry all too often.

I'm following now, can't wait to see how everyone is doing!

Welcome. I had VSG surgery on Jan. 27th too! I just started purees Friday and so far, so good. I've had scrambled egg, refried Beans with mashed avocado, broccoli cheese Soup, and pureed sweet potato with Protein Powder. For the last two days I've had a green smoothie with Protein powder and I really think that's helped my energy.

I've lost 19 pounds so far, but I know the stall is coming....I think everyone experiences it around weeks 3-5.

  4. I was wondering for those of you who had surgery in Mexico how you are handling your post op care? I had surgery in Puerto Vallarta and saw my PCP one week after surgery, then I'll see her every 3 months for labs. If I have any problems I'm to call her immediately and she'll refer me to a bariatric specialist. I'm hoping this is sufficient, but despite the fact that my surgery team is accessible via email or phone, it's not the same as your surgeon being local.

  5. Thanks so much for posting this! I had not heard that WLS patients experience more dental problems. Sorry you have to have an expensive tooth implant. It's very concerning especially since you have good dental health—brushing, flossing, regular check-ups.

I just read an article and it didn't offer a clear cut reason for dental problems but mentioned many contributing factors: vomiting, reflux, frequent meals, Vitamin deficiencies, and gummy vitamins.

  7. An omelette sounds good.😀

B- I wasn't feeling it this morning, so I had a green smoothie with baby spinach, a handful of mixed berries, Protein Powder, and a splash of banana split Skinny Syrup. It was delicious.

L- refried Beans with a slice of mashed avocado

D- mashed sweet potato with Protein powder

I'm trying to incorporate some veggies and low sugar fruits in hopes it will be boost my energy. How's everyone doing?

I have been really good about taking small bites so far. Prior to surgery I used to just scarf food down. I had one meal where I ate too fast and had the same thing. Felt like there was a lump of clay in my chest/stomach. Haven't made that mistake again. You just have to be mindful all the time. Hopefully keeping it up will build good habits.

Feeling like there was lump of clay in your chest/stomach sounds terrible. I was a "scarfer" too, so I'll really have to be mindful. Did you throw up, or did it eventually go down?

Today I had my first oops! I was trying to get my daughter out of the house for volleyball practice and we were all chatting and running around, you know, family dinner chaos, and I shoved a piece of deli meat in my mouth and swallowed it without even thinking about chewing well. I feel so good most days (other than being tired) that I literally forgot I had to eat slow.

You know what reminded me? The vomit that followed. The food felt stuck and usually I can burp through that feeling but not this time. It came right back. That'll show me. Lol

Oh, no! No fun at all. So, I guess the vomiting if you eat too fast is for real!

  10. Today is my first day on purees. Yay, finally moving to the next stage! I thought the first day of purees was going to be yesterday, but recounted and it wasn't until today. My first meal was 1/2 scrambled egg whisked with Fairlife milk and it was delish, experienced no nausea and it filled me up, which is absolutely amazing to me. It looks like such a tiny amount in this "big" 7 oz ramekin, but I wanted to see what my new normal portion looked like in a regular sized dish. For lunch, I'm going to try refried Beans with a little smashed avocado (thanks Uomograsso) and Protein Powder.

I was back three days after surgery but work from home so it was so nice to be able to go at my own pace. I moved my office to the couch haha! And honestly working kept my mind busy!

Rest as much as you can when you can and heal up!

Three days! 😳 I don't care if you do work from home, that's awesome that you were able to get back in the groove so quickly.

Sooo I started this topic then disappeared... sorry about that!! Going back to work was NO JOKE. I was fine eating soft foods, being at home, yadda yadda... but then going back to work threw me for a loop! I was EXHAUSTED. I teach middle school art so I was hugged on and loved on allllll daaayyy long... finally I told my admin I had to get back to the kids.... lol. But for real, I didn’t get a lot done that day because I was catching up from the past two weeks.

I’m staying on plan, which is good, but I’m having a harder time getting liquids in because of going back to work. I can’t take two or three gulps like I used too, so now I, sipping small sips all day and still don’t finish my tee is full of crystal light. *le sigh* I’m getting there though.

Another hard thing is supplements. I briefly scrolled through the feed and saw y’all were talking about that- my doctor has a strict supplement policy. There are three different options, and I chose the one my insurance pays for. I have to take 3 Calcium chewables a day, 3 irons at bedtime and two Multivitamins at bed as well. Also, it includes a B12 nasal spray that I use once a week. It’s called nascobal, and PTL my insurance pays for it because I have a feeling it would be expensive otherwise. After a year of so, I will go on two flints one chewables a day. Yikes. Prob an Iron supplement too because I’ve always been slightly anemic.

Anyway, hope y’all are well.... sorry to drop off like that but y’all! I was a ZOMBIE!! Xoxo xoxo

YOU ARE AMAZING! Already back to work! That must be very hard and I'm sure you are zomie-like when you get home, but you are doing it and working your plan.😅 I go back to work Monday, so I'll probably be joining you in Zombieland. Get some rest, girl, and thanks for letting us know how you're doing. 😘

  13. Ya'll are all ahead of me. I still have a few more days of liquids. I mentioned a couple of days ago that I was in my groove with the liquids, but I TAKE THAT BACK because today was tough. I was hungry. 😟On a positive note, I've lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks! I didn't walk today because it was icky outside, and I didn't do my Yoga either because I just didn't have the energy. I'm averaging 88g of Protein a day, getting a minimum of 64 ozs of fluids, and 450-550 calories.

All the foods ya'll have posted sound wonderful right now!

    My vitamins:

Bariatric multi Vitamin with iron-1X day (I ordered on here)

    liquid B-12- 2X a day

    B1- 1X a day

    D3- 1X a day

    Biotin- 1X a day

chewable calcium-2X a day at noon and before bed

Just had my two week post op follow up and am doing great. Down 20 lbs since my first visit and 14 since surgery. Surgeon cleared me for machines at the gym as long as I can hit 400-500 calories a day. Any less than that and I'm doing myself a disservice. Still a couple months away from intense workouts like kickboxing and body combat.

He called me one of the easy ones.

I'm excited to get to the gym tonight!

    That’s great! Enjoy your workout.

  15. I was sleeved just two weeks ago and totally understand how you are feeling. I experienced anxiety before and even the next day though I was told everything went smoothly and the surgery lasted only 35 minutes. I think it is normal. Try to think about the healthy, thin you and all the fun things you are going to enjoy with your little girl!

As far as it being a hard road, I can honestly say it hasn't been for me. I was in the hospital only one night, even though I was told to plan for two. I had very little pain, really just soreness when I sat up or sat down. I was up walking 3-4 hours after surgery, and I walked and walked until I was released at 8PM the next evening. I have followed all directions and haven't even experienced any nausea. I know it is different for each person, but don't worry too much about about the recovery issues because they subside quickly. Follow all of your medical team's instructions and you will be just fine. You got this!
