    January 2020 Surgery Folks

My surgery was on January 21st. Since starting the program I've lost 122.2 lbs. That averages about 3.3lbs a week and 15.27 lbs a month. I'm not sure what the average loss is supposed to be like. I had the RNY and started at 344. I'm 221.8 now. What shocked me the most is how much it improved my breathing!! I had such horrible lungs before and was always coughing and hacking up a lung, complete with having to run to the bathroom to throw mucus up. I don't think I've coughed more than a dozen times since surgery though. That enough would have made the surgery worth it! When did you guys who have been through this already think about getting plastic surgery? Do you think it's wise to wait until you hit your goal weight or does there come a point where it's common to go ahead and have it removed before then? Just curious.........
  2. I started at 330 first consultation (highest weight was 380). Just before surgery (I had rny on January 21st), I weighed in at 307. All of that lost on the pre-op liquid diet. There is a small part of me that wonders if they really gave me a tiny pouch tummy, because it's still very surreal. First Dr visit is this Thursday when hopefully I'll be down some and can get this hateful jp drain out!! Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Well it's been 6 days since surgery. I finally got a real shower Sunday which was great, but it irritated the Dickens out of my drain hole. Now sore again and the two incisions/sutures where the hole is is so ITCHY. driving me bonkers. I can't get it it because of the gauze and dressings ugh. In other news, I'm a little behind where I should be getting fluids and protein in. I hope I can get up to higher amounts soon. I know I'm probably already dehydrated, but I'm doing the best I can and just haven't been able to drink more yet without getting chest pressure. Non Scale Victories

    2. I went hiking for the first time since my surgery on a Mountain I have hiked a few times before. This isn’t a huge climb, but has about 2000ft of elevation gain over about 2 miles with a few very steep sections. In the past this mountain has wooped my butt and taken me about 2 hours to reach the top of. I am usually soaked from sweat by the time I reach the top due to the effort of dragging my big butt up there. It also has always left me soar for days afterward due to the weight putting pressure on my joints when coming back down. This time however I was able to reach the top of the mountain in just over an hour while hardly breaking a sweat the whole time. Then coming back down I could immediately feel the difference on my legs. The lack of pressure on my knees and the softer foot falls were an amazing difference over before. Yes!!!!!! This is one of the biggest goaIs I have. I want to go hiking so bad. When I was a bit younger I used to love being outdoors and just walking in the woods, even though I was still fat and couldn't do much. As I got older though even that was a hard thing to do. I cannot wait to get back out there and walk some trails or just pay in the woods. Such a country girl. Lol. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

Haven't noticed anything but my eye Dr did tell me that your vision changes as your a1c changes. He wouldn't give me a new prescription for this very reason. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

    Just saying hello.

Congrats. I'm home after two nights in ICU. We had a few complications during surgery. All in all though it turns out if I hadn't had surgery I would've most likely been dead within the next few years. My liver was massive and well into fatty liver disease and I was borderline kidney disease. Luckily both are reversible with weight loss. So turned out to be necessary in more than one way. Had rny Tuesday morning. I had my first little poo today but I'm still feeling constipated. Didn't realize that could happen in a liquid diet but yep. A lot of pressure went away after the little poo so that was great. I'm still unbelievable sore where the drain is and in my shoulder. Belly incisions not that bad. I think I'd feel pretty much alright if it wasn't for the dang jp drain. I haven't been able to get all my protein in but honestly I'm still just working on walking every hour which is getting better. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

Second day in ICU. They had complications and had to cut off the top half of my larger stomach and I had a leak. I'm not having nausea or vomiting and the invitation sites are door but not unbearable. What's killing me is the drain and my shoulder. I hear shoulder pain and issues before surgery and being in the Jesus pose on the hard table for five hours just killed it. Having to stay at least one more night and keep the drain in for a week ugh. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

Like the both of you my surgery is Tuesday! I'm the first one of the day, so I gotta wake up at 4:30 for my last pre-surgery ensure, then I'm at the hospital at 6am. I can't believe that it's only 4 days away. Seems very surreal to me actually. I think the hardest part for me will be not being able to drink/eat at the same time as I ALWAYS drink a lot when I'm eating. I'm also a super fast eater so that will be something to get used to. Taking 20 mins to eat 2 oz of food? Weird. But I'm looking forward to it. I love love love food, but I've been fat all my life and I think being able to finally do things that I've never been able to do .... well I will love that even more. Best of luck to you both on Tuesday as well!
  17. LOL I figured. I think you may be the only person alive that enjoys Gila Bend hah! Of course there's probably more there now. We were there in the early 80's when there was NOTHING but the air force base, one hotel, and the A&W.

  19. Definitely interested in this thread. My rny is next week and I've also wondered about how fast you lose. I started at 330 (highest was 376 years ago) three weeks ago. I'm at 310 now so 20 lbs down on liquid diet. I'm also 42 and about 5'3" tall. I worry about loose skin simply because I already have some. But I worry more about not ever being able to do things I want to do. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. That sucks. I have the best mom in the world. If it hadn't been for her I would have eaten a lead bullet when I was about 13 years old. My dad is cruel, and a true sociopath. I remember being a little kid and him telling me that he should have shot me or on a tree stump and let the ants eat me. He wasn't joking. When I had surgery in 2015 to remove cancer my mom asked him if he wanted to say anything to me because I could die in the table. He shrugged his shoulders, didn't even look at me, and said "whatever". Such a jerk. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

One week away from my rny surgery. I have to be at the hospital on the 21st at 6am. I've lost about 20 lbs since being on the liquid diet which is cool because my surgery goal was 14lbs. I've loaded up on ensure Max (Target had buy one get one 50% off and I had 3.00 off coupons on each one). Also picked up some pure protein packs Incase I'm out and about and need something. I still have to buy jello and ice pops. I've also got gas x, stool softener, blood pressure cuff, thermometer, milk of magnesia, fairlife protein shakes and some clear protein water drinks. Also bought juven to start seven days before surgery. I think I'm ready. I hope so anyway! The day before surgery I have a 12 hour shift and all i can have all day is to pre surgery ensure shakes. That's gonna suck lol. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app

My surgeons office told us specifically not to use bone broth and they HATE premier protein with a passion. I don't get it but apparently the pp are too processed with chemicals they don't like. And I think they are concerned with the sodium or fat levels in bone broth. It sure would be tasty tho lol Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. 5 optifast supplements a day, either shakes or allowed one bar/soup a day. One small meal per day, 1 cup fruit, 1-2 cups veggies, lean protein the size of a deck of cards. On it for 4 weeks before surgery. Sent from my moto g(6) (XT1925DL) using BariatricPal mobile app
