  1. Ideally, you should speak to your psychiatrist about it. The surgeon is not going to be as well versed as a dr specializing in psychotropic medications. That being said, one of the requirements for myself was psychiatric clearance before I was approved for bypass surgery. This topic should definitely come up as suggested earlier. After the surgery, the medications I took were pulverized into powder to aid in absorption. In theory, I was supposed to continue to grind my medication for months after surgery. I got sick of doing that after a few weeks and found that the stomach could digest the pills just fine. (Definately not suggesting that anybody should be as careless as I.)
  2. The mental health portion of the screening is to verify that you understand that this will be a lifestyle change. Not a quick fix. It helps set realistic expectations and goals. Since you are already in meds, you need to consult with your psychiatrist the meds you are taking, how they will be administered and a bunch of other things only your psychiatrist and you will know. FYI. when I had the surgery, they did not have all my meds at the hospital. Trintellix, vraylar are too specialized. You may need to provide them yourself. They also make you crush meds in liquid phase. Any extended release meds need to be reevaluated.

    Random pains

I'm about a month post OP. I have been having random pains throughout my chest and abdomen the past week or so. It is like a stabbing pain and goes away very fast. Maybe 15 seconds or so. It is not just in the abdomen. I get it in chest and shoulders as well. I plan to bring this up next appointment, but was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this.
