  1. hey everyone. I'm almost 5 months out of surgery and have lost 60 lbs. Ive been one of people that decides to torture myself and weighs almost every day. The fluctuations i see on the scale are crazy. This entire month I've had a stall. I realize that I lost a good amount of weight in 4 months, so I'm sure it's normal but frustrating. I've literally only lost one pound the entire month and I've not done anything wrong. I'm hoping I break that soon as most months I average around 10 lbs loss.

Anyway, what I notice weighing every day is I will lose a few lbs in several days, then it seems like a go up a lb or so, only to relose and then some after that, little at a time. Does anyone else that weighs often notice this? Maybe it would be better if I weighed once a week or less? Thanks!!

  2. hi everyone. I'm beyond frustrated. I am just over 4 months post op with gastric sleeve. I have lost close to 60 lbs already so I can't really complain how ever, I have been doing everything right and have not lost ONE lb in over 10 days now. In fact, I gained 1 lb as of this morning. I am doing everything right. Has anyone gone through this? I thought a stall wasn't supposed to last this long??!! Thanks!

  3. it seems to be pretty common that people's hormone levels get screwed up for a few weeks or months after weight loss surgery. It should normalize after awhile. The reason is that estrogen is stored in fat cells, and it gets released and floods your system during rapid weight loss. Or at least that's the claim. Makes sense to me! At any rate, what you're experiencing is not unusual.

I actually got my period 4 days after surgery and it was early. Now I'm about 4 days past when I should of had it. I'm sure itll be off kilter for a while!! Thanks.

  4. You are not alone! You had your surgery 12 days before me and I am also a slow loser. I am down 50, so it's around 14 a month on average which I could never maintain prior to surgery. My most recent nutritionist visit she practically told me to double my calories a day ( I did not) But I do get to 800 a couple days a week, and the scale has been moving, but slow. Maybe try adding an extra 100 calories a day and see what that does for you? If you get the scale moving again (and you will) let me know what you did to help things along!
I totally agree with this. As soon as I added 100 to 150 calories a day (I max at 800ish), i have consistently been losing close to 1/2 lb a day! We have to realize even 800 a day is a pretty big calorie deficit as most of us are well over 200 lbs when we start

  5. I had the exact same thing happen. I made myself eat more — hitting 700-800 calories and hit 10g over my Protein goal every day for a few days, and weight started coming right back off.
I upped calories and Protein and I lost 5 lbs in the last 10 days. When i was eating 500 to 600... losing less. 700 to 850ish coming off easier. I dont believe necessarily in starvation mode but I'm eating pretty much low carb so I think that's helping as well even with a bit more calories

  6. I'm losing slow too, on average 2 to 3 lbs a week and I'm 4 weeks out on Monday. I actually lost more on my pre op diet the week before surgery. How ever I'm still down almost 25 lbs in a month thats way more than I've been able to lose in ages. I average about 600 calories a day some times more some times less and I wonder if maybe I'm not eating enough either. Hang in there you're doing great

  7. I feel a discomfort in my chest area when I try to drink not sure if I’m sipping incorrectly and then I feel like I need to burp it feels so weird i don’t feel nausea anymore and there is no pain just discomfort. Also I’m hungry and was going to try some chili’s from Wendy’s? I heard a lot of patients can hold it down ..

I wouldn't try wendys chili just yet. I tried it a few days ago at 3 weeks post OP and had a hard time with it. I didnt throw up but it sat like a brick in my stomach only after a couple spoonfuls.

  8. I’m post op 2 weeks, and I’m eating soft, mushy food. My new full is one teaspoon of food. So I am drinking my Protein Shakes faithfully. I can’t believe how many inches I have lost already! I don’t like the new “full” feeling so I have yet to eat near that amount again. I have 3 teaspoons of “mush” spaced out throughout the day. My fav is vegan meatballs, I got at Aldis. They are so soft, and I tolerate them so well. I was told to experiment with one food a day, if it bothers me, try that food the next week. Honestly the vegan meatballs did so well, I’m probably gonna ride these out for a week by themselves.
I have been eating the vegan meatballs too! So good!!

  9. Like Chix said, this is the famous 3 week stall. For me, my weight loss slowed drastically but didn't stop during that period. Soon you'll find you lose 5 pounds in a couple days and then a pound a day until you hit another stall around 8 weeks and then another around 3 months lol. It sucks but we have to get used to it, it's part of the process.
I seriously hope that happens for me. I stay the same for a few days, then drop 2ish lbs... it's been so slow and I'm 3.5 weeks out. I really hope that happens 5 lbs here and there, 1 lb a day... I'll love it!!

  10. you definitely didn't gain a pound of true weight if you only ate 800 calories. It's got to be Water or constipation. It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of true weight.
Nah, I don't think I really gained but it was just weird to see it move "up". I'm taking Miralax and go every couple of days so def dont think its Constipation. I think I need to up my Water intake. I think it may help me lose faster.

  11. I was slow too. And calories did and do matter to me. I don't know that I believe in starvation mode until we've exhausted almost all of our fat stores. But I'm not a doc. But Dr. Jason Fung doesn't happen to believe in it either until you are very very very thin. He's a board certified nephrologist and diabetes doc.
Right I dont believe in starvation mode either when you've got loads of belly fat like me especially. I mean I'm over 3 weeks out and I've only lost 11 lbs in those 3 weeks. Yes that's decent how ever, you'd think with a very drastic change it'd be more. I'm stuck wondering if my body is confused or something lol

  12. there are a lot of us out there who don't lose every day. I didn't. I was a very slow loser from the get-go, but I did end up losing 100% of my excess weight.
I actually gained a lb when I went to 800 calories. 800 is still next to nothing. I was eating upwards of 3000 calories a day when I was in my bad eating phase on and off. Its just so frustrating. How can I gain with 800 calories? Shoot on my preop diet for a week I ate 1000 calories and lost 12 lbs in 7 days. Its funny that that was my biggest loss, even after surgery.

  13. You’re not alone. I was sleeved on 12/5 and have lost 14lbs since surgery. It seems like I’ve hit a stall the last 4 days as the scale hasn’t moved. I’m gonna keep trusting the process and following my doctors plan.
Keep trusting it..my scale finally moved 2 full lbs over the last few days. I am down 22 lbs since my pre op 11/25.

  14. sleep (rest), Water, Vitamins, nutrition (getting the best you can get), minimizing stress, these are the things that will make the biggest change for you. Keep staying the course and remember just because the scale isn't going down doesn't mean there aren't major changes happening in your body. Stay the course. I'm a PCOS patient too, so keep those carbs really low and what carbs you do get make sure they are higher fiber, low carb options. Limit fruit to very little if not eliminating it altogether for now.
I echo one of your previous responders on following your surgeon's plan. One thing my doctor had to remind me of is that I am no longer a normal eater. My new stomach requires me to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day; otherwise, you will never get your proper nutrition in. Focus on clean eating, and getting your Protein and good fats. You will find that the scale will continue to decrease.
I am at 3 months now, and losing just shy of 2 lbs a week (on average--some weeks the scale reflects nothing, then by the end of the month, it balances out to almost 2 lbs a week). Considering we have PCOS, that is some AWESOME success. Remember insulin resistance requires us to keep our carbs low. Just keep in mind that with every effort, you are gaining control of that runaway train that couldn't be controlled by anything else other than weight loss that used to be virtually impossible. With every pound lost, you are closer and closer to your body working more typically with PCOS being further and further in the rearview mirror! I can't wait to tell that b*tch GOODBYE forever! I am sure you feel the same way.
Feel free to connect with me, so we can support each other. I wish you the best!
Yes let's support each other!!! [emoji2]

  15. I'm 3 weeks post op. When I went to my post op appt a week and a half ago, the nurse told me to stay at around 600 calories a day. This would of been funny to me pre-surgery but now its easy. How ever, I have done a little experimenting and it seems like a lose a little more if I eat a bit more calories, just a bit. So some days I stay at 600 others I try to go up a bit. What are everyone's calories looking like day to day???

  16. I lost 16 lbs the first MONTH and I started off at over 300 lbs. Your body's going to lose at the rate it loses depending on a whole host of factors, most of which you have no control over (e.g. age, gender, metabolic rate, starting BMI). All you can really control is whether not you stick to your surgeon's plan. If you stick to it, the weight WILL come off, whether fast or slow. I was a slow loser from the get-go, but I was very committed to my plan, hardly ever strayed from it, and ended up losing 100% of my excess weight.
and yes - there are many who believe "starvation mode" is a myth.

You're right. I'm a woman, I have pcos, I'm almost 40, etc. Any loss is a loss for me and I know I cant compare myself to others. I'm started right at 300 lbs and I'm 279 as of this morning. I can't really complain has this has been only 4 weeks tomorrow counting the week of my preop diet. My nurse practitioner examined me last week and said my stomach still has some swelling as well from the surgery so I'm sure there are a number of factors at this point. I'm staying the course... thanks!!
