    Non Dairy Protein

My dietician recommends Vega One for vegetarian/vegans. I always have trouble with whey protein so I'm switching over to Vega today. I had it before surgery too. It's a pea protein and is a little odd in terms of taste but there are plenty of flavors so you can find one you like. My go to is the Chocolate. You can get them on Amazon and they're in retail stores too. I've seen it at Target, Kroger, and Whole foods. Hope this helps! Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    They MEAN well, but...

My husband has the best response for this. When he was losing weight his co-workers would mention he was getting slim/looking good/losing weight and he would say mockingly "and therefore I have value now?!" [emoji1787] It's a great way to make people laugh and think at the same time. Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Don't feel bad at all. I never ever have reached the "ideal eating plan" my doctor prescribes and especially not 3 days post op. I snapped at my dietician who said I needed to eat faster and more. I told her I'm going to eat until my stomach is full and follow my 30-30-30. I tried it her way once and I got extremely sick because my stomach isn't there yet. Everyone heals at their own pace. And it's the hardest and most frustrating thing to essentially learn how to eat again. Do the best you can with the protein and keep hydrated. Maybe keep mushy foods on the back burner until you're further out. My doctor has his patients on full liquid/puree day 3-20 but I just had protein shakes and chicken broth. I think I was able to handle a very runny puree around 2 weeks post op. Hang in there. Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Crazy dry skin

I have the same problem! I'm loving my bath and body works shea body cream lotion. Finally getting tons of use out of my lotions, but this kind I only have to apply once a day. Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    NSV - what are yours?

We went looking for a new car and I wanted a compact SUV but was worried about fitting in the seat. Had no problem whatsoever during the test drive and it felt roomy! Also when my pants start falling down (when I'm at home! [emoji23]). I've had to tighten the drawstring on my favorite sweatpants 3 times but I'm going to wear them as long as possible! 6. My doc has me following the 30-30-30 rule. Nothing for 30 minutes before you eat. Take 30 minutes to eat and chew 30 times before swallowing. Then wait 30 minutes before starting liquids again. It works well for me. I'm 3 weeks out and still trying to get into a good groove schedule wise. For my doctor/nutritionist, as long as the protein soups have the consistency of water/protein shakes then they consider them a liquid..I had a thicker soups last night for dinner and it was pureed so I treated that like a soft food instead of liquid and followed the 30-30-30. When in doubt, always call your doctor's hospital or message them for advice. My doctors hear from me at least once a week, but that's what they're there for! My biggest fear is it won't work...

I'm 3 weeks out and I still have that fear. After years of failed diets it's only natural to feel skeptical. I have lost 25lbs since surgery and while that is amazing, I am still doubting myself lol. I'm looking forward to getting back to exercising like I did before surgery. This has been 100% a complete and utter life change. I view my body and food in a completely different light. I know the weightloss will get harder as time goes on but I'm ready for it and enjoying this honeymoon period of easy loss now. Good luck with your surgery! You got this!! 8. I was also sleeved on December 2nd! [emoji4] I'm so sorry people have treated you like that. Know that you are beautiful at whatever weight/size/shape. Our bodies are ever changing. No one stays young forever and when people like to be cruel to me about my body I remind them that we're all going to get older, our skin will get wrinkled and we will look different. The most important thing is we treat our bodies well and take care of them whatever they look like as we go through life. [emoji3590] Wishing you a fabulous recovery and lots of exciting scale and non-scale victories in the new year! Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Finally got my date!

I'm 3 weeks post op and this is what worked for me. If the hospital doesn't give you one, make sure to have an abdominal binder! I never had surgery before and I lived in my binder for the first week. Having that extra support helps with walking. Also get good reusable ice packs on amazon. I got ones that covered my whole stomach and they were life savers! Make sure you have a good amount of pillows to prop yourself up at night. It just feels better to be on an incline than to lay flat (at least for me it was). I got a big u-shaped maternity pillow that helped keep me on my back because I'm a side sleeper. Also the first two nights I sleep on our recliner. Don't wait to take your pain meds. This goes for in the hospital as well as at home. Everyone says this but walk, walk, walk. It helps break up the monotony of being in the hospital. At the same time, don't feel bad about sleeping. I had constantly read how people walked seemingly all the time post-op. I think I did 3-4 loops over a few hours and then tucked in for the night. When you're not walking always make sure you have your calf pumps on to keep the blood moving. Sip sip sip! Glue your water bottle to you! I went in for fluids about 13 days after because I was very dehydrated. I walked a lot when drinking on the beginning because it felt better and seemed to go down faster. Have a pillow to put over your stomach for the car ride home. I constantly had my pillow over my stomach for 2 weeks because it was a comfort and also so I could text easier since I rest my arms on my stomach when texting. Lotion and lip balm are life! Most importantly, know that you will experience a lot of different emotions during recovery. I scoffed at this but sometimes I feel like a teen with my mood swings. [emoji23] Finally, give yourself grace and try to stay as positive as possible. It will be tough, but every day you'll wake up feeling a little better than yesterday and with more energy! Try not to play the comparison game too much. I got myself all worked up in the beginning because I wasn't where others were. I recover slower than others and that's okay. It's not a race. Listen to your body. I wish you the best of luck and a fantastic surgery and recovery! Seeing the weight loss every day is such a motivator and helped me get through the tough days. You got this! 10. I felt the same exact way the first week after surgery. When I came home I would be holding my stomach every time I went to the bathroom. It was my first surgery so it was very new and definitely never experienced that kind of pain. The first week I iced my stomach on and off like my surgeon recommended and didn't take the abdominal binder. Learned to sleep on my back. Take the pain meds and don't try to suffer through it. I made that mistake. At my 2 week follow up I got sent in for fluids at the hospital's infusion center because I had issues getting fluids in. After that I felt so much better! Don't be afraid to call your surgeon is anything feels off. I have bad anxiety and it was nice to hear that everything is okay and expected. I will be 3 weeks our on Wednesday and I can do more liquids now but I am still struggling with protein. Baby steps. You got this!! Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hard time adjusting

I had my surgery December 2nd and I'm on the struggle bus with head hunger and cravings as well. My stomach is healing slower so I'm stuck on liquids and very thin purees. It's so hard. Know you're not alone. Surgery may have shrunk our stomach but not the cravings. In order to stay away from the delicious foods, I will go to the bedroom and play video games or text my friends. I've been watching a ton of youtube and discovering new youtubers that make me laugh and forget things for awhile. I do tell my husband to eat in front of me once in a while because it's just something to get used to. My stomach will only comfortablt hold 2 tbsp at a time. I have buyer's remorse every other day. But I know this will eventually worth it. Hang in there! Sent from my SM-G988U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
