June line up
The problem is I have so much scar tissue. In 1986 I had a hiatal hernia repair and gallbladder surgery at the same time and I was cut from breastbone to bellybutton. In 2000 that scar pulled apart which can happen after several years and I had eight hernias that went all the way down my stomach so they opened me back up thru the same scar and repaired all the hernias. But because there has been so much work done the surgeon said that he could not even get through the scar tissue and to try to would put my life in danger because he could easily nick something and I would bleed to death. He said an open surgery was also out of the question because of the great danger to my life. I will be fine. I just have to do my best to lose this weight and learn to except the fact that I am who I am and leave it in Gods hands. But please know how much it means to me that you are there for me to talk to and to know how much you care. God bless all of you.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and Cathy I did feel the hugs and prayers from everyone. I'm having alittle trouble with depression but they said it is normal and I'll be ok its just going to take time. I just can't believe how weak and sore I am from him just going in there and looking around. I probably will not get a second opinion because the doctor told my husband there was no way to even open me up there was so much scar tissue. So I am just trying to decide between WW, Akins, and counting calories. I have got to get this weight off some how. So anyhow thanks everybody from the bottom of my heart and good luck to everybody. Love you guys!!:rolleyes2: And Larin good luck to you.

Where are you teacherofk?
Hey Patricia well did not get my lapband as I thought. I got to the hospital at 6:15 and went into surgery at 7:30. By 8:00 Dr. Groves was talking to James and said there was no way he could do the surgery bacause of all the scar tissue. He said it was way to dangerous and he would not even attempt to open me up. I can not have any type of WLS. So back to square one for now. I am really sore and weak and just resting for now. But he was great and even prayed with me before the surgery so I would tell anybody to go for it. Talk to you soon nap time.

Looking for banders in Alabama--surgery is tomorrow
Ok surgery time is finally here. I will be leaving early in the morning and I am getting so nervous. I don't know why since I have had several surgerys in the past. I think I worry that he will wake me up and tell me he could not do the surgery since that is a big could be because I have alot of scar tissue and I think I worry about the band not working or having alot of the problems I have read about on here:confused2:. So if you were banded in Alabama I would like to hear from you (and others too). Especially if you were banded by Dr. Groves and Dr. Britt in NE Alabama. Wish me luck tomorrow and I will post as soon as I can when I get home. Thanks!!

What foods can you NOT eat since the surgery?
It amazes me that almost everybody can eat salads. I would have thought that the lettuce would be hard to get down. I too love salad especially Outbacks salad so I hope I will be able to eat them too. My surgery is tomorrow and I can't believe it is here. I am really getting nervous and I have had several surgerys in the past. I think I am just scared it will not work or that I will have alot of problems afterwards like some I have read about. Wish me luck tomorrow!

Beginning to come face to face with my addiction to food..that I never thought I had!
steveamy we are getting banded on the same day. Let me tell you how bad my craving for food has been. I went to big restarants and ate out Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and in the meantime gained 6 pounds. I am so mad at myself and if I was not on my pre-op diet I would be at a restarant right now. I want to eat EVERYTHING and it is driving me crazy:cursing:. I feel the same way you do I pray with all my heart and soul first of all that they can do my surgery and second of all that my band does help me have a new healthy connection with food. Eat to live not live to eat. So hang in there and we will get thru this on the same day together.:biggrin2: Good luck to all those being banded this week my prayers are with you.:smile2:

how long does the surgery take
I only have to do the Akins diet for 7 days which I started today. My surgery is the 17th. So I am sitting her now eating tuna and a boiled egg. Had my pre-testing done this morning. I only had to do an EKG and blood work so I came out lucky there. Good luck to everybody.

Would you risk this?
Ok I have a question. My surgery is on the 17th an thankfully my insurance is covering it. My question is if I have a slippage or other problems is my insurance BCBS going to cover those types of things. Does anybody know? Thanks and good luck to everybody.

Hernia surgery with Lap band surgery questions
Well this is the thing with me. I have already had a hiatal hernia repair in 1986 and then the old scar which runs all the way down my belly pulled apart and in 2000 I had eight hernias repaired. My surgery is on the 17th also but the surgeon says he may not be able to do it bacause of all my scar tissue. But from my understanding it is a really good thing that you can get both things done at the same time and then your hernia will be repaired. I think you might just have alittle bit more soreness and you might be very tired for a few days. The surgeon says the tricky part with me is that if he can get in there he has to undo my hernia repair, do my banding and then repair my hernia again. So who knows what will happen. But I tell you what I'll pray real hard for you and you pray for me. Deal?
