RobertaMSN reacted to summerset in Starvation mode?
It also takes 3500 kcal to lose a pound. That's something a lot of people who had WLS seem to forget.

RobertaMSN reacted to catwoman7 in Starvation mode?
you definitely didn't gain a pound of true weight if you only ate 800 calories. It's got to be Water or Constipation. It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of true weight.

RobertaMSN reacted to catwoman7 in Starvation mode?
there are a lot of us out there who don't lose every day. I didn't. I was a very slow loser from the get-go, but I did end up losing 100% of my excess weight.

RobertaMSN reacted to Krestel in How much weight did you loose your first month after surgery?
I only lost about 15 pounds (39 bmi), but I had been working really hard since about 6 months before my surgery, so I think my body was "letting it go" slowly. Even now I only lose about 2-3 lbs every week. Still happy about that though considering Ive lost over 100 lbs in total at about 6 months out from surgery (and 1 year out from trying to get rid of it).

RobertaMSN got a reaction from MrsSnapBack in Hungry after Surgery
It must be frustrating especially if your program touted no hunger post surgery. It's true that everyone is different and some do have hunger again right away. The good news is you still have a much smaller stomach so as long as you don't "push your sleeve" one extra bite at a time you'll still lose weight - assuming you're following a good eating program. Have you watched any of Dr. V's YouTube videos? Look under "Duc C. Vuong" - he's a bariatric surgeon from New Mexico who posts a huge amount of extremely helpful content. One of his videos talks about this. Good luck and I wish you the best in your journey.

RobertaMSN got a reaction from Losingit2018 in Shoulder pain
For one day post op I also had severe left shoulder pain but it went away by the next day. It's better to be safe and call your doctor but Wineguy is probably right - it's probably gas-related and your body would be reacting more to a leak as he says. It's hard not to worry, though. I was also worried at first and was thankful when it went away. What helped was going for a walk outside the next day which helped clear the gas and resultant shoulder pain. If not in too much pain overall perhaps try going for a walk and see if it helps.

RobertaMSN yes, I love Dr. V! I watched him religiously before my surgery. He has been a great help. I do recall him saying that the only people not hungry are dead people. Lol I guess I just wasn’t expecting to feel it right away. They’re telling me that it’s more than likely gas that I’m feeling and not true hunger. I sure hope that is the case. I hate the feeling of hunger! That has been one of my problems and one of the things that led me to surgery, aside from my other problems. Thanks for your response. Continued luck on your journey!

Call your surgeon. That can be the sign of a leak. Don’t take any chances.
particularly pain in left shoulder can be a symptom. Always better safe than sorry.

RobertaMSN reacted to catwoman7 in Almost 2 years post op - Starting to gain little bits at a time
are you still measuring/weighing and tracking your food? If you're not, I'd consider it. I'm 4.5 years out and still have to do this - and probably will for the rest of my life. I've learned I'm not good at estimating and remembering what I ate. My weight starts heading north pretty quickly when I stop closely monitoring my food intake.

No . I accidentally occasionally gulp (protien shake/soup) and feel no restriction @ 10 days post op. VGS

RobertaMSN reacted to FluffyChix in Foods you can no longer tolerate
We were out this weekend and didn't have time for lunch so we stopped at a Circle K to get fresh brewed Decaf. Instead of half n half (to me = empty cals), I found the Fairlife CorePower chocolate milk in their fridge and so I used that for Creamer instead. 170cals; 26g protein; 7g carbs; 5g sugar (lactose=milk sugars).
Here's Premier's nutrition panel:
It's not so world-breaking diff! And the taste was Just. Like. Chocolate. Milk. Seriously. Hold me.

RobertaMSN reacted to Danny Paul in Foods you can no longer tolerate
During a group session with my bariatric surgeon someone mentioned that he was exploring new things that he could eat after surgery. The nutritionist asked him why was he exploring new things to eat when he should be learning what foods to stay away from. She said you got this surgery to get a new way of life as it pertains to your eating why are you looking to test your new stomach with foods that have harmed you in the past. She said get in your Proteins, Water and Vitamins and you'll not only lose the weight, you'll be more healthier and you'll have a better chance of maintaining the weight loss. People who experiment and try to work around their surgery have a much greater chance of weight regain. This is not what you wanted when you got the surgery.
I tend to agree with her on many points such as getting your proteins first, hydrating (you can't go wrong drinking water) and taking Vitamin supplements. At 4 weeks out I was on pureed food going into soft foods. I stuck to the menu I was given since it was the start off point for my future eating. I was afraid of exploring foods because I knew that I would go back to my old bad eating habits very fast. I got the needed reset in my food consumption and with the weight loss and better health I see the benefits of not exploring foods as the nutritionist puts it.
Like 2Bsmaller said, I have no plans to try these foods.

RobertaMSN got a reaction from mary77450 in December 2019 Sleeves
My successful gastric sleeve surgery was Dec. 2nd and I'm doing great! No complications, little pain - haven't seen the need to take any of the pain med - and no nausea except one dry heave episode the first night, probably from the anesthesia. Right now it basically feels like I did a really hard ab workout yesterday. My surgeon has his patients continue on a high Protein liquid diet for one month post-op, the same as two weeks prior. Forever Breakfast will be a green smoothie with only two small chunks of frozen fruit, mainly spinach, Protein Powder, Water, and some kefir. I started taking Barimelt Vitamins prior to surgery and really like them. I'm losing a pound a day, though will only weight myself at home one day a week. Of course the weight loss will slow down but it's amazing right now. I have no hunger at all so have to keep careful track of when I've eaten and how much, but food journaling is an important habit to get into and keep and it's helping - once I waited too long and got a headache, probably from hypoglycemia which resolved immediately after eating. Everyone is different but so far my experience is an extremely positive one. Good luck!

Congratulations, you are on post op day #1 today. Hang in there, today and tomorrow will be the worst, but then you will start to get the hang of it by day 3 and the pain will reduce significantly days 3 and 4.
I'm on post op day #6 and feel great!

Check with your doctor about Biotin supplements. There is a sublingual sold by Vitamin cottage which tastes decent. Hair loss is usually inevitable due to the trauma that surgery is for our bodies. If I remember correctly, it starts about 2-3 months after surgery and then starts growing back 5-6 months after that. Just hang in there. 🙂
