  1. I reached maintenance phase and I’m within 5 lbs of my lowest. Good timing for a lifestyle change! To be honest the restaurant deal was a little positive for me personally in a bad situation overall, as it was easier for the family to adjust to me not going out to eat all the time. I’m an sure I would have contributed to the red line if I hadn’t made the choice.
  2. I’m a little over a year since surgery and there is pretty much nothing I can’t eat. It’s kind of scary and I sort of wish it was more of a pain for some things. I’m maintaining at about 6 lbs above my ultimate goal weight. I know I’ve developed some bad habits but it really doesn’t affect me. I keep wondering, did I just get really lucky or if I don’t get back very strict (I’m not THAT bad) will it all go downhill soon. I know I need to follow the docs orders. Just thought the hard times would persist longer. I am recognizing that maybe I am overly confident and too slack with my diet. I wonder if the folks that have re-gained weight, did it seem like they could not be as strict and not gain and then all of the sudden the bad habits caught up. (My fear)
  3. I still love my protein shakes. They said you would get sick of them but I enjoy the latte. I still do 2 a day and a meal. I can’t eat much for dinner usually but I can eat as many slider foods as I want. (Sunflower seeds, junk,) that’s where I need to be careful Btw I hate the thought of “going out” anymore I’ve done is several times and get sick every time where food is restricted and I end up throwing up. the Covid has actually helped from that standpoint since most things are closed A positive in a terrible situation
  4. Sss that is good info. I too have a weight that triggers me but my fear is that it will no longer be as controllable. I’ve been about 5-10 lbs from my ultimate goal which I kinda like because it means I’m never quite finished (mental thing I guess). We all know the rush you get when stepping on the scale and knocking off a chunk of weight you thought you were stuck with for life. That make the counting calories and everything more important. When u kinda stabilize, it does seem easy to stop weighing, etc. it’s amazing how much of this is mental in addition to the physical tool we chose to take advantage of. Thank you everyone for your thoughts. It really does help to hear from others!

    Nov 2020 Bypass Peeps?

    I’m Nov 2019. One year yesterday. It’s amazing and you will feel awesome In one year. I’ve lost 147 lbs and that’s almost half my weight. Hang in there this month and next. It will get better! Good luck! :-)
  7. I’ve leveled out after losing nearly half my weight. Doing stuff I love to do now. 2nd pic is me after surgery on pain meds. 1st is this weekend. Deathly afraid of going back up as I never want to be back at my old weight. (Xxxl to med, size 48 to 34). Its an amazing tool and I JUST NOW got to where I knew it was the right decision.

    Hope you are doing fine!!. I remember talking gibberish and having a conversation with someone walking with me in the hall but i was by myself!!!. I was telling my wife about ordering quesadillas on the internet. The pain med is funny. Overall, it wasnt “fun” for me, but not as bad as I thought. heres to a speedy recovery

  10. At what point did you realize that the operation was the best (Or one of the best) decisions you have ever made? I’m approaching 6 months and I’m getting there. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but it’s been good. I’ve asked myself this question many times but dropping my BMI a couple categories and taking into account the virus risk factors, I’m pretty happy about the decision and I’m almost ready to say best decision I’ve ever made for my health. With that being said I am super afraid of going backwards and hope I can keep that fear.
  11. It’s been a good thing. I only work a couple days a week so I’ve bought limited bridging clothes to just get by vs a new wardrobe that goes obsolete in a few weeks. I’ve already reached the last hole on my NEW belt. Embrace the positives for sure .... for me, It’s a pain to return online clothes but it’s nothing compared to wasting a bunch of money having to be presentable at full time work just to have to reset my sizes again.
  12. I’ve tried to project my Future weight with a half dozen weight calculators. They seem kind of mixed but I’m hoping to beat the ones I’ve used. Pre surgery weight 305 surgery weight 283 current weight 267 (13 days post op) I would love to get down to 150-155. Most calculators say 200 ish do you use the projections / statistics Has anyone beat them by a lot?

    I had forgotten about this thread. Thanks for commenting!! Here was my predicted numbers: 80% of patients reach at least 212 lbs 18 months after surgery. 50% of patients reach at least 193 lbs 18 months after surgery. 20% of patients reach 174 lbs 18 months after surgery. Im almost 6 months out and 185 lbs (-120lb total). So I guess you can beat the calculator. I’ve been fairly strict on food choices, not that strict on water (I know...shame), and have gotten a lot more active. It’s a little off because I used pre liquid diet weight bc it wouldn’t let me do it after with the BMI rules. (Too low and it says you shouldn’t have surgery)

    Cancer Weight Gain

    I think the fact that you are trying to address any weight gain is the most important part. You will be fine with your positive attitude. Much respect for tackling cancer and the weight at the same time.
  16. I struggle with meal prep, food logs, etc. I’m either lazy or not that organized. Sometimes I fall into the trap of just not eating one day if I don’t know what to eat. I drink protein and get my fluids in. It’s just the extra real food that I struggle with. I can’t really tolerate chicken etc just yet. Do you have a easy go to meal for when all else fails?

    Carbohydrates

    I like potatoes on occasion. I haven’t noticed a change to my weight loss Rate after eating some baked potato. I drink shakes and try to down a little meat but it’s still really hard. Potato has been something that has helped for me. I was told that low carb ain’t the deal with this surgery. “Low to mid” carb, “low to mid” fat, “high” protein. I had my surgery in November and just hit 80lbs. Not giving advice. Just telling you my approach.

    Where are my 3months warriors?

    Nov 18 down 64 lbs. stalled out. Not excited yet....maybe in another 10-15 lbs I’ll get really pumped. I too worry a lot about failing in the future.
  22. It’s weird but since my surgery I have been cooking for others A LOT. I don’t eat my creations but I enjoy cooking it. I’ve been thinking about this and I believe it’s my way of staying involved in the social aspect of food. Anyone else find themselves having a urge to cook a lot or am I just weird.

    Difficulty eating

    Not really physically impossible. Just don’t feel like it or if I do I feel an uncOmfortable feeling and have to lay down. I’ve thrown up several times because of it. I think it’s because I’m not chewing enough, eating too fast, or the specific food. It kind of varies. I can eat a little chicken one day and then feel sick the next. So mine is really an after effect If you can’t physically eat that might be something else than my experience.

    I’m having same stall same timeframe. I don’t really want anything besides my shakes. I feel like it’s a chore to try some “soft” options but I do it anyway.
