  1. Woo Hoo on your approval!! I had Aetna too and was freaking out b/c my doctor didn't submit it until 12/14 and my surgery was on the books for 12/18. Approval came in same day it was submitted!!! I guess those billing people really know what to say to get it approved! My guess is that's it's easier if BMI is over 40 and don't need to worry about comorbidities, etc! So excited for you, and can't wait to follow you on your journey!!!!! XOXO!!!!!
  2. What are everyone's favorite meals right now? I'm currently obsessed with quinoa/hummus bowls! The texture is perfect for me right now, and it feels great to eat real food again! Prior to surgery I had a really bad sweet tooth, but now it's the savory meals that get me excited. Shakes, puddings, etc, just taste way too sweet to have more than once every 3rd day or so, and even then it's only b/c it's an easy way to get my protein in. Another new obsession of mine is doing my hair and makeup! LOL!!! I finally feel good about myself and am taking pride in my appearance. I even watch youtube tutorials on makeup. I'm like a 13 year old! Ha ha!!! It feels great to LOVE LIFE again!!!!
  3. I just realized that my BMI is 34.4, so I'm below the weight needed to qualify for surgery! That's pretty fun!!!!
  4. I'm 195, so down 35 since pre-op diet which I started on 12/4. Doing pretty well! Still tired, and having a little blurry vision at times, which I suspect is due to low blood sugar since I'm barely eating. Averaging 300-400 calories per day right now. I suspect as I continue to heal, I will be able to get up to 500-600 which should help with the fatigue and blurry vision. Feeling great otherwise!!

    Life Taken Away

I am so very sorry!! Can't even imagine your pain and sorrow. Take care of yourself. Lots of HUGS!!!
  6. Only my husband knows! Plan on keeping it that way! Too many gossips in my family, combined with judgment, etc. I've lost weight before, so people are used to seeing me go up and down. I plan on telling people I'm doing high protein, shakes, etc, which is all true of course!

    Recovery Time?

I have a sedentary job and took 2 weeks off, then worked from home the 3rd week. If I had a job that required being on my feet, I still wouldn't be back at work! I completely underestimated the level of fatigue I would feel! For the first few weeks, I got by with lots of naps! I'm not taking naps now, but little things like going up a flight of stairs completely wears me out!
  8. Today is my 1 month surgery anniversary, and I was rewarded with a trip to ONEderland!!! Hit 199 this morning!! Feeling great, and can't wait to see what next month will hold for me!! I vow to never see a "2" in front my weight again!!
  9. I wish!!! Not taking naps anymore, but just lying around and feeling lazy and tired. Going up 1 flight of stairs takes so much energy!! I can't even begin to think about exercise right now, and I was actually pretty active prior to surgery!
  10. Yes!!! I'm 2 days shy of being 1 month out, and I'm still exhausted. Not taking 2 naps a day anymore, but just generally fatigued!!
  11. Having a great day!! I'm down 30lbs, weighing in at 200, and see ONEderland in sight!! I haven't worn jeans in a while b/c none of my jeans fit. Today I wore a pair of size 14 jeans!! Huge muffin top, but was able to conceal it by wearing a top that flows!! Feeling great, and can't wait to see what next month with bring!
  12. I see a difference! Your waist, hips, and thighs are much smaller!!! Keep up the great work!!
  13. My surgery was 12/18, and I'm down 17lbs (29lbs since 12/4 when I started pre-op diet). My nutritionist says not to worry so much about protein until I'm on solid foods. Try my best, but for now just focus on measuring my soft foods, and letting my body heal. I'm tracking anyway just do get used to it, and am averaging 400 cals per day. I've eated out a few times, and get a kick out of the fact that I can get 6 meals out of 1 restaurant meal, and that's just eating the protein and tossing the rest! Last night I got ahi tuna tacos. 3 tacos each had 2 slices of tuna. One slice of tuna filled me up, so I still have 5 meals to go! I tossed the tortillas and gave the fries to my kids!

    Eating to much symptoms

I feel a pain in my ribs and chest. As soon as I feel it, I don't swallow anything else. Tonight I had a small bite of food in my mouth when I got the feeling, and I spit it out into a napkin. The one time I swallowed that last bite, I was nauseated, spitting up mucous, etc. Don't want that feeling again!!

    December Surgeries!

Went back to work today! Felt good! Also had my first experience with the "slimes" aka angry pouch. Made the mistake of having too much food in my mouth and swallowing too much at once. As soon as I swallowed, I knew it was too much. About 20 minutes later I got really nauseated and my mouth kept watering like I was going to vomit. I just kept spitting, but fortunately never threw up. From now on, I will concentrate on small bites, and 30 seconds between bites!

    December Surgeries!

Hello All! I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op, and am enjoying my soft foods. I can only eat 2-3 bites, which is pretty fun actually! I treated myself to a few new kitchen gadgets (air fryer, spiralizer, etc) and am having fun testing them out on meals for the family. So far, so good! Still slightly fatigued, but getting stronger every day. I go back to work on Tuesday!

    December Surgery dates???

I'm working from home as well, which is a good thing, b/c I'm still fatigued and it's nice to be able to lie down every now and then. I don't head back to the office until Tuesday, so good luck to you tomorrow! Maybe a tumbler of iced water infused with some flavoring to sip on throughout the day? Thinking lots of ice, to keep you a little cold and keep you awake?

    December Surgery dates???

I graduated to soft foods today, and celebrated with a thin slice of ahi tuna (1 ounce). I managed to eat 3/4 of it, and was full! It tasted so good though, and I'm loving the satiated feeling I've had every since eating it!! Tomorrow - egg whites!!! Woo Hoo!!!

    Hospital Bag

I feel great!! I previously had 3 c-sections, and this was nothing in comparison! The immediate post-surgery pain will be controlled with meds. That's why you will sleep so much in the hospital! LOL!! When you get home, you'll continue to need extra sleep, naps, etc. I'm 2 weeks out, and am at about 90% energy wise. Getting stronger every day. The pain was nothing, just be prepared for the fatigue, and enjoy those naps!!

    Hospital Bag

Like others reported, I pretty much slept the whole time I was in the hospital. I wore comfy clothes there (leggings and fleece shirt), and wore the same outfit home. I brought my toothbrush, chapstick, and my phone. I also brought jammies, but never wore them.
  23. Keep the bandages on until you see surgeon again. Shower regular, and pat dry!
  24. My husband is the only person who knows, and I plan on keeping it that way. My mom is a gossip and has spilled the beans on every secret I've ever shared with her, so obviously there is no trust there! I've lost weight before, but have never kept it off, so people are used to seeing my weight go up and down. Only difference is that this time, I'm not gaining it all back! My husband is amazing, and we both like that this is our little secret!

    December Surgery dates???

I'm only 2 weeks out, but yes I am still very weak also. I've advanced to not needing a nap, but I still need my "rest" time! I go back to work on 1/7, so hoping all goes well with that!
