Having my Band to Sleeve on 12/2. Had my band since 2012. Ready to be done with things getting stuck and constantly wondering if it’s still ok in there or slipped or eroding. Have always struggled with the fact of knowing that there’s something in there that shouldn’t be in there and what could go wrong. I’ve lost 40 pounds in eight years that I have kept off just ready to move onto the next step and get the rest off.

I totally understand. Good luck next week.

My surgery is scheduled for December 4. I’m having a gastric bypass. I’ve lost 15 lbs in one week on the liquid diet which seems like a lot. Yesterday was the worst day so far. I’m exhausted and didn’t sleep well last night. I had to get up at 3am to eat a sugar free Jello because I was so hungry. I’m allowed 5 Protein Shakes a day. Along with sugar free Jello and broth. I do not feel well. I’m constantly drinking Water and constantly peeing. It’s like I can’t catch up with the dehydration. I know I have only one more week but I feel terrible. Thinking of calling the nurse practitioner on Friday - I know I should be hungry but I feel off.
    Any insights or advice? Thanks

Congratulations on the 15 pound loss. What you're going through is completely normal. Your body is finally realizing that it's not getting all the carbs, sugar, complete meals, etc like you did before. It's basically going through shock. When you drink that much quite naturally you're going to urinate just as much. Your body is releasing fluids and toxins. Do discuss your symptoms with your doctor and hopefully in a few more days it will all pass. Good luck on your journey.

  3. It doesn't work that way. Once the doctor submits the information to the insurance company about your health and the reason (s) in which you need surgery, that's it. Once the insurance company approves surgery, your approved. The weight loss is really so that your liver can shrink a little so that the doctor can get to the stomach adequately.

I was banded in March 2011, lost about 70 pounds and over the past few years I've regained it all. I went back to my surgeon who advised that the band slipped and I had all CCs removed. I've been overall disappointed with the side effects of the band and know that I want, at minimum, to get the band removed. I've been considering doing the sleeve since my insurance will cover it. Does anyone have similar experience?

If you go to the revision section of this website, you will see a whole lot of us with the same problem. Yes, I just had my band taken out last week and sleeve done. I am so happy. It's something to think about. Good luck with making a decision.

Lower BMIs tend to lose a little slower, but you end up at the same place around 18 months. It's a journey relax and enjoy it. Easy to say, hard to do. I only lost on average .2-.3lbs per day. Now I'm 132lbs this morning--down from 287lbs as my most recent high.

    Wow! Congratulations!

You are two days ahead of me (lap band to RNY) and you are right--it's worse than you expect but I now feel I have turned the corner and just might live...😁

But dang, your surgeon is really aggressive on your post op diet. I'm one week out and overjoyed that I get to eat cottage cheese and watered down mashed taters. I can add meat at week three, but since I'm a vegetarian that's no help. I can eat 1/2 an egg at three weeks, though...and I'm so happy I'm cackling!

Lol, I'm living too. Each day is getting better and better. I have noticed that the more I walk, the better I feel.

I know that's right. I was prepared to do the same as far as eating cottage cheese and other simple foods in that category. I was shocked when he told me all that. I was so happy because I really wanted to try a taste of Thanksgiving dinner. Now, I can. Happy Thanksgiving to you. :)

Has anyone ever moved quickly thru the phases of the post op diet? I have had no naseau or vomiting but only eat less.

I don't know what you mean by move quickly but my doctor has me on one week of each phase. Last week through yesterday was liquids, today I started purees with ground meats and scrambled eggs, and next week I'm back to regular foods except for hard veggies. He said to wait another week for those. I was like okay :D.

I am 11 months out Dec 12th will be my one year mark and I have lost 176 pounds and I have another goal to reach before jan 7th I'm to lose another 27 pounds puts me at 190 my goal weight is 150 but I feel I'm struggling more I'm not gaining but I feel like I'm at a stand still and I want to eat alot more than I am I was only eating 500 calories but I wasn't losing so I bumped up to 1200 calories and I cant even get close to that now so actually what should I do.gor some reason I want to eat sugary things and breads stuff I know I shouldn't please some advice would help greatly..

You just may want to go back to sugar free items like Jello, popsicles, etc. just so you can have the sweet taste without all the calories and addiction. I have to honestly say that I can't stand anything too sweet anymore. Sugar no longer appeals to my tastebuds. Good luck to you.

I’m having significant issues with the band and am wondering if I will have yo wait 4 months for the revision or if they are likely to do it sooner since I am having problems?

When I first saw my doctor, he and I had already discussed doing the surgery all-in-one. (Revised to sleeve) I was having a lot of problems. My band had slipped so from February until my surgery last Monday, my band has been unfilled. We didn't know that my port slipped down two inches as well until he went in. My surgery took longer than anticipated, but it was sooooo worth it. Good luck to you! I hope you don't have to wait.

  10. Yesterday was my postop appointment and I have graduated to pureed foods plus all ground meat, fish, and scrambled eggs. OMG!!!! I couldn't believe my ears :o when my DOC said that. I was so happy that I could eat meat and I did just that. Ate some tuna. Oh what a relief that was. Talking about the sluggish feeling that I had been feeling went away about 20 minutes later because it took that long for my tummy to realize that it wasn't getting any liquids but some real food. So I immediately started having gas pains and after it passed, man I felt great the rest of the evening. Saying that was perfect timing because we were headed out of town immediately after my appointment was over. So the cooler full of liquids, was packed for nothing lol, smh., but it's okay because I'm still going to eat my Jello, and I have to still incorporate at least one Protein Shake a day. That will not be hard at all. I'm so excited!!!!!! :1353_muscle_tone4: yeah!

Hi again. Someone explained what TPN is.
I am not in the hospital. They started TPN while I was in the hospital, but a home health professional came to my house to teach me how to hook it up every night. Once a week home health comes and changes dressing and takes blood.
If I was in the hospital, I would really be going crazy.

    I had gastric sleeve surgery.

I realized something was wrong about ten days after surgery. I thought I was having a heart attack. My left shoulder hurt really bad. Also my stomach was swollen.
I was also allergic to the derma bond, the glue they use to stick the incisions together.
I’m glad you are not having any issues.
The best of luck to you.

Oh wow! Thanks for that further explanation. :) I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing this; however, it is a blessing that it was caught early in your healing phase rather than later. I hope it all works out for you. Blessings.

I’m 11 days post op. I’m still having pain issues where they removed my lap band port. No walking yet. I can’t believe how much you all are able to walk! I’m having some gi issues. I started mixing my Protein Powder w sf choc pudding and I get awful cramping and liquid stool about 15 min into eating. It’s been pretty consistent with that food so I’m going to back off of it. Anyone else have that issue?

I don't understand why you aren't able to walk? You do have to use the bathroom right? So that's walking unless you have a catheter connected to you.

It is painful to walk, but I hold my stomach and take very slow steps. I know that walking is what helps your body to heal, and the longer you are staying in bed, that's the longer it's going to take for you to get back in the swing of things. I'm 5 days postop and I do not have any GI issues so far and I'm praying that I won't ever. You need to make yourself walk. I hope you feel better.
