    Hey everyone,

I just had VSG done Tuesday, 11/19/19.
I absolutely cannot get my liquid or Protein goals.
The hiccuping is insane! I feel like I hiccup every time I take a sip. Nothing tastes right to me and I have no interest in anything. (The head hunger for the burger part of a cheeseburger is real tho.) I’ve tried Premier Protein, fairlife core power, lean shake 25 from GNC. My next attempt will be the unflavored Isopure.

I’m struggling a lot with the repercussions of the surgery and I’m just feeling really down and can’t seem to snap out of it. Just looking for support, I guess.

    Thanks.

I have read about this happening to lots of people within the first 3 days. I'm on liquid pre op and that cheese burger sounds damn good right now ! : ) All I can advise is walk walk walk, sip sip sip, it gets better. Please up date us, it is very helpful . Thx

I had a hernia repaired during my sleeve. I have seen it is very common to find it while they are in there. Mine was very small. However we did discussed what ifs before the surgery and what I would want him to do in certain cases.

I am looking to have a large incisional epigastric hernia if possible durning my VSG.

My doctor did two "extra" things while performing my surgery, as well. A fact I didn't learn about until after the operation. I was surprised, and a little miffed as he indicated this might slow my healing process, and I need to get back to work. That said, much better to have it taken care of now than to have another surgery in a couple months. I'd recommend seeing how you feel in a few weeks. If you are still angry, lodge a complaint with the hospital. It would be hard to win a lawsuit when he can prove it was going to be needed sooner or later, so wait to see how you heal first.

What did he do Gallbladder & Appendix ? My surgeon said these may also be removed if they appear to be problematic .

  5. I too only sleep 4-5 hours a night . I am 11 days pre op. Doctors will not prescribe anything they due to apnea even though I am on Bi pap . 3 Benydryl ( 75 mg ) 30 mins before bed worked for me for 8 years. Quit about a month ago in prep of surgery . Just sayn..:) Weight loss starts vicerally, from inside out thus you lose the underlying support fat making things appear uneven. Totatly normal.

    What's TPN?🤷‍♀️

Parenteral nutrition (PN) is the feeding of specialist nutritional products to a person intravenously, bypassing the usual process of eating and digestion. The products are made by specialist pharmaceutical compounding companies and are considered to be the highest risk pharmaceutical preparations available as the products cannot undergo any form of terminal sterilization. The person receives highly complex nutritional formulae that contain nutrients such as glucose, salts, amino acids, lipids and added Vitamins and dietary minerals. It is called total parenteral nutrition (TPN) or total nutrient admixture (TNA) when no significant nutrition is obtained by other routes, and partial parenteral nutrition (PPN) when nutrition is also partially enteric. It may be called peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN) when administered through vein access in a limb rather than through a central vein as central venous nutrition (CVN).

Hi all, Just checking in. Yesterday was 11 months for me. I weighed in this morning at 121.6! Can you believe that my primary doctor is talking about me getting underweight! I feel like my legs are still pretty thick but it is all extra skin he said. My top half is really little at a size XS and bottoms are a size 0 or 2. I eat approximately 800 calories per day and exercise 2-3 days per week. I don't have up to date photos yet but the ones I am posting are from about 1 1/2 months ago and I am 5 pounds lighter now. I am 52 yo and feeling great.image.thumb.png.15c1cdbc10817af4f4b167ccc7164e40.png

This is, admittedly, very silly, but....has anyone else noticed this...?

I've lost a shed-load of weight and I have an apron of skin up front. It's truly flop-tastic. 😲

However, when I'm in the bath, it magically begins to float up into a rather endearing little pot-belly. 😊

I know that fat is less dense than muscle and so it will float, but to see it in action is a bit of a giggle!

    Pic's ? lol

I found starting my own preop diet before surgery has definitely helped me eat less and fill up quicker and so that I can adjust post SURGERY by living off shakes already.

I'll be having surgery next Monday for BYPASS cannot wait to start the new life!!

How long have you been doing this ? How much have you lost ?

    Honestly?

Make sure you stay hydrated with Water, Powerade zero, milk, etc.

Of course keep trying to get in Protein, but if that doesn’t happen for a few days you’ll be okay.

In week 2 I had an 800 calorie WEEK.
Was so worried I emailed my NUT about it 3 times and she reassured me that’s completely normal and that our bodies can survive a few days without Protein, but that staying hydrated was absolutely essential.

Wouldn't that be a few weeks vs days ? " Our bodies can survive a few days without protein",

Girl, this is 100% me too right now. I also had surgery last week. I was crying pre-op, didn’t want to do it, pushed myself to go to the OR. I immediately regretted it upon waking up & have every day since. I wished my husband had talked me out of it. Recovery was much, much harder and more painful than I was expecting. If I had known it was going to be like this, I would have tried so much harder to lose the weight without surgery.

However, we can’t change it now. It’s done, there is no rewind button, and this is life now. I am starting to feel better as the pain has eased up tremendously & now I’m on full liquids instead of clear. It also helps me to think that this will not last forever. Eventually I will feel “normal” and be able to eat normal foods, just less of them, which is what I wanted from this. I wanted to be able to eat normally- binging & having multiple servings like I did was not normal.

I also made a list of all the things I will be able to do as a result of this surgery. I won’t feel like hiding myself because of my weight, I’ll take pictures with my family which I haven’t done in years, be able to enjoy social gatherings & going out in public without feeling embarrassed of my weight, play and ride bikes with my kids, swim, feel good in clothes, etc. My weight has held me back from living & enjoying my life for the past 5 years. Thinking in terms of that helped me so much.

Good luck! Fingers crossed that a year from now when we have lost weight & aren’t so restricted, we will be grateful!

Eventually I will feel “normal” and be able to eat normal foods, just less of them, which is what I wanted from this. I wanted to be able to eat normally- binging & having multiple servings like I did was not normal. I said those same words to the psychologist in april and was deferred indefenitly as an eating disorder and said I was not likely to not follow the post op diet on oct 15. learned it pretty closely have been living it for last month or so. down 52 lbs. o well we'll see. love my reaquired physical abilities . :)

@Billy Bob Let us know how the PCP appointment goes. Hopefully they will have some advice on getting your process started again. Wishing you the best!

Now jumping through hoops Per surgeon /PCP/ Psyc med group( Holeman Group ) to get re-eval & psyche treatment . probably won't know what's up for 1-3 weeks ( the old "don't call us we'll call you ) . lol

Sounds like there's a pretty wide variance in what consists of a psych eval. lol I'm pretty blunt and to the point, so should be pretty easy.

Love seeing all these responses, I guess it will depend on who the doctor is as to what kind of testing they do to see if you're mentally ready for the surgery. I know some of the triggers not to say, like 'I had an eating disorder back when ...' or 'I've thrown up after eating' or anything else that can be classified as an eating disorder or severe depression or thoughts of harming yourself. Answer as "vanilla" as you can.

I'm so sorry @Billy Bob that you had that experience. I agree you should call the doctor back and continue to ask questions until someone tells you what you need to do next in order to get your clearance. It may be some counseling or therapy or something easy like that for a few months that will bring on your clearance. Don't give up.

See my PCP today , I was to secure/honest and possibly flippent in my answers. THe eval was done in April. Wish I knew then what I know now. I may have unwittingly admitted to binge eating or other behavior considered an eating disorder. It may be some counseling or therapy or something easy like that for a few months . I will try to find out today. Thx
