    Advice needed - VSG Failure

yeah, I suppose this is true. I have been listening to the BariatricPal podcast and one of the speakers that does research in bariatric surgery and why it works has a lot of interesting and informative things to say about why some people lose a lot of weight very easily after surgery and some people dont. I highly recommend the podcast.

    Advice needed - VSG Failure

This is interesting. I have not heard this before, but then again I have not looked into a revision (I am only 5 months post-op) Maybe you can speak with a surgeon about a revision or speak to a doctor in a medically supervised weight loss program. I wish you the best.

    Cooking Small

I loved reading everyone's reply to this. My husband is going on deployment soon and I am worried about food waste. I feel like most recipes will last me at least 4-5 days if not more but I also hate eating the same food all the time. I will definitely take the advice given in this thread into account.

    Concerned

This is 100% true. It took me some time to stop comparing myself to people that started at higher weights than me. I always felt like I wasn't losing fast enough but that is simply not true. The weight loss is different for everyone and is influenced by many factors. I would consult with your surgeon to determine if you are on track.

    Questions

In my first two weeks, I was on liquids. Sometimes I did experience acid reflux symptoms because I was drinking too much. I didn't really understand how small my sips had to be in the beginning. I was able to figure it out pretty quickly and stop the acid reflux symptoms.

    Discouraging friends

I am really proud of you that you are able to know this is the best choice for you no matter what anyone else says. I know it can be very hard without family/friend support. I highly recommend going to the bariatric support groups available in your area and seeing a psychologist/counselor regularly.

    So glad to be here!

This is important. Some protein shakes and protein bars have too much sugar in them.

Never could have done this PRE OP

Congratulations on your non-scale victory! I am sure that felt amazing.

    So glad to be here!

I would recommend protein bars, any type of nut (just not the kind coated in sugary stuff), and low sugar pudding. I personally did not have a food funeral, but I also didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet. I understand most people do go through the liquid diet pre-op so I am sure that is difficult to do.
  12. I did not have a pre-op diet because my surgeon told me that my BMI put me at a lower risk for an enlarged liver. He confirmed this with my pre-op tests. Thus, I didn't need a liquid diet to reduce my liver size. I was and continue to be on the same diet since I began my journey which is no bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, sweets. I did have to stop eating and drinking at certain times before surgery.

    Help! Hair Shedding

I also experienced excess shedding even though my hair was VERY healthy before surgery. My excess shedding started at 2 months and slowed down recently (5 months post op). It will stop eventually. If it doesn't stop after being 12 months post-op, you may want to speak with your surgeon.

    When can we eat rice

I don't plan on reintroducing rice. Like most other people have already mentioned, I really like using zucchini noodles and cauliflower rice as substitutes for pasta and rice.

    Needing a pep talk!

You are allowed to have feelings about your surgery being canceled. Your feelings are valid and I know it must be very frustrating. Do what you can for exercise and hopefully, you will be able to continue with the steps you need to take for surgery when things open back up again.

    Help

I also had these same feelings after surgery. I promise you it does get better as time goes on.
  17. You can do this! Just take it one day at a time and you will make it through. It is definitely worth it.
  18. Hello, I am not sure if you are considered underweight. I recommend you talk to your doctor about it. You could also look at a BMI chart, as that will usually give you a good idea.

    Hair loss

I am really sorry to hear about your struggle. I am sure that it is very hard to cope with. I suggest getting full bloodwork done. Despite taking your vitamins, you may be deficient in something and that could be the reason your hair hasn't grown back.

    Gatric Bypass or Sleeve?

I have GERD and I still got a VSG.I am about 4 months post op (I think) and I haven't had any issues but I am not very far post op. If I could go back, I would get the bypass because I have all these fears that I won't get to my ultimate goal weight (135). Another reason I would get RNY is because you are statistically more likely to lose more weight and keep it off. However, getting the VSG does not mean you can't lose a lot of weight. Some people have fantastic results with the VSG and genetics also plays a role.

    Hair loss

I take 10,000 MG of Biotin but I have read that it really doesn't do much. That's really cool that your in-laws sent you some oil. India is known for having wonderful oils for hair, skin, and cooking! I wash my hair about every 4-7 days. I have very curly hair. It is around 3b or 3c curl category.

    Hair loss

That is awesome! I hope it stays that way for you. It usually starts between 3-6 months post op

    Hair loss

I was unable to access the full article for the first link you sent. This is a quote from the second link you sent "Surgery. Depending on the type of procedure, length of stay in hospital, medications, and overall nutritional status." Thus, not EVERY surgery causes hair loss and it cannot be said that anesthesia is the cause of hair loss. The third link doesn't give much detail, it just simply states that surgery can be a cause of hair loss, which every bariatric patient knows is true. However, this does not lead to the conclusion that EVERY surgery will result in hair loss. It depends on the type of surgery.
