I’ve always wanted??!! What are yours?
PlanetHopper replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Rants & Raves
I've always wanted to feel attractive. I've always wanted to be a normal weight for my height. I've always wanted relief from chronic pain syndrome. (This has not been resolved by the weight loss ) -
Thank you for sharing. I think I will try this.

9 months check in - in maintenance - feeling amazing
PlanetHopper replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay! Thank you, I will check this out. That is very cool. I did not have that done. I am in the United States and had my surgery in the United States. It would be really cool to compare your before and after! -
Do you wear bra at night when "the girls" get hanging
PlanetHopper replied to over65's topic in The Gals' Room
I use to be someone that didn't wear bras despite my large breasts. I was probably somewhere around a triple D or a G. After WLS they have gotten much smaller and there is loose skin. I now want to wear bras in public. However, I do not wear them at night. It does not seem to be a problem. At this time, I do not know what bra size I wear because I have been unable to try them on at stores. -
It doesn't look great that is for sure. If your doctor said it's up to you, do what you think is best based on pain level, being uncomfortable, ect.

Congratulations! In your photo, you don't seem to have any loose skin. I would love to know what kind of exercise you do. -
My Journey and Fighting Insurance Issues
PlanetHopper replied to FinallyLosingIt20's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
wow! that's incredible. I'm so glad your doctor advocated for you and that you chronic pain has decreased -
The opposite. I went through a civilian bariatric program. I sent you a message
-
Hey there, I did. I was approved and has VSG on 12/9/19. Are you going through a military bariatric program or a civilian bariatric program? I believe this may make a huge difference. I moved away to a different state and no longer see my surgeon for follow ups. I see a medical assistant from a bariatric program run by the military hospital. I am sure that if I would have moved here before the surgery, the program would not have allowed me to do it. My comorbidities were major depressive disorder and chronic back pain.

So glad to be here!
PlanetHopper replied to MichelleInNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would recommend protein bars, any type of nut (just not the kind coated in sugary stuff), and low sugar pudding. I personally did not have a food funeral, but I also didn't have to do a liquid pre-op diet. I understand most people do go through the liquid diet pre-op so I am sure that is difficult to do. -
I also experienced excess shedding even though my hair was VERY healthy before surgery. My excess shedding started at 2 months and slowed down recently (5 months post op). It will stop eventually. If it doesn't stop after being 12 months post-op, you may want to speak with your surgeon.

Going back to work tomorrow and I’m scared
PlanetHopper replied to CammyC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do understand your situation. I am also an essential worker. I am an ABA therapist for children with Autism and other developmental disorders. I go into their homes to conduct therapy. The best suggestion is to make sure you do all the things the CDC recommends, such as frequent hand washing, ect. I wish you and your family the best. -
How often do you weigh?
PlanetHopper replied to JRT Mom's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is how I started out as well. However, I do sometimes weigh myself twice a week. -
So I started reading your post, and this was the first thing I noticed. I had to stop and start responding right away. This is a RED FLAG. This decision was not about him, it was for you. A lot of people who are uninformed about the surgery say this. Every person that has ever had bariatric surgery knows that it isn't true. I am very sorry to hear that he does not support you with your decision. I hope you remember that this decision wasn't about him. The fact that he continues to demand an explanation of how this will benefit him is a bad sign. I am very proud of you for doing what is best for you. I hope you continue with doing so because your life isn't about anyone but you and thus you should try your best to make decisions that result in your own happiness even if it means leaving people behind. ❤️

Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis
PlanetHopper replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am in the same boat. I have been diagnosed with Major Depression Disorder with reoccurring episodes. It's a lifelong struggle for me. I also share a fear of gaining weight during this time. My gym is closed and it's hard for me to go on walks for longer than 15 minutes due to chronic back pain. I am just doing the best I can and trying to stay away from carbs. -
I don't think you're vain! I am sharing the same experience as you, except I'm one month behind you. My shedding is still happening. Hopefully, they are back soon so they can help us!
-
Aw, that's pretty great that you were one of the lucky ones. I know everyone is different. I have very curly hair so there are many ways I can make it look like it did before all the shedding. However, if I wear my hair like I use to, it's definitely noticeable.
-
I was given a specific number for being only 3 months post-op. I have been advised to stay under 30 g of TOTAL carbs a day. Someone else did mention that each program can vary greatly though. I am in a program that is very strict on carbs.

December 2019 Sleevers, how are you doing? What’s your stats?
PlanetHopper replied to smb123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's great to see how everyone is doing. I am one of the few Sleever's that have experienced dumping syndrome. I have had 3 episodes in the past 3 weeks or so. I am trying to do better by eating less and eating slower. With regard to my stats, I had surgery on 12/9/19 and I have lost 34.3 lbs since having surgery. I have lost 43.6 pounds overall. I am currently 163.2 pounds. I am having the most "issue" with my hair loss. I have very curly hair and it makes me very sad to see it falling out in clumps. I know there is nothing I can do about it, especially since my labs were perfect. Still makes me sad though. -

Favorite Flavorless Protein Powder?
PlanetHopper posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone, I am 10 days post-op and I will likely be on the soft food stage soon. Please drop your favorite flavorless protein powder in the comments. I would love something that really blends when cooking. Thank you in advance. -
Hey everyone, so I know that hair thinning is very normal (some even say inevitable) around 3-9 months post-op. However, I am already shedding hair more than normal. I asked my surgeons office and they said that tends to happen and to start taking Biotin. Im kinda freakin out here. I haven't heard anyone say they started hair thinning at two weeks post-op. I also asked about getting blood work done but they said they will not do that until 3 months post-op. Has anyone else experienced hair thinning or higher rates of shedding at only 2 weeks? Any suggestions? Any comforting word? P.S. Please understand that I have textured hair and Im mixed with African American. My hair is a part of my identity and I knew that I would have thinning after this surgery but I didnt expect it to happen so soon.

December Surgery dates???
PlanetHopper replied to Kimmerz23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well...no because I was not placed on a pre-op liquid diet. I was on a medically supervised diet of low carb, high protien and lost 11 lbs before surgery over the span of 3 months. -
insecure about how much weight i’ve lost, or not lost?
PlanetHopper replied to MariahS0105's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I want to congratulate you on your progress so far. I understand why you question if you have lost enough weight post-op. However, I want you to know that every individual body reacts differently to the surgery. There are many compounding factors that play a role in the rate at which you lose weight such as genetics, weight, and height at the time of surgery. Therefore, you and your body are doing great! Keep up the hard work. -
