Good Morning all! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I'm 8 days post op, and last night was the 1st night that I slept through the night (usually wake up needing nausea or pain meds), so I feel like I'm definitely on the road to recovery. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were a little rough, but I just told everyone that I had a sinus infection to explain for my lack of energy and lack of eating.

I haven't taken anything for pain or nausea today, and don't feel like I need to....hooray!! I took 2 naps yesterday, so fingers crossed I can get through today without napping. I lucked out with the holiday break, and don't go back to work until after New Years, so by then I should be perfectly fine.

209 this morning, so down 9lbs since surgery!! Hope everyone is doing well!!

@chubrub Congrats! I'm glad your feeling better and doing better with the N/V. Did you have weight gain at first? I'm po day 3 and I'm 6#s up! RN stated it was normal since they pump you full of IV Fluid to prevent dehydration once your home. But it was a bit disappointing to see the scale go up not down.

    Hi everyone

Today was my surgery vsg day!!

Dr. Said surgery went really good, no issues. I did my preop liquid diet for 2 wks 12/9..and I'm doing liquid phase 1 and 2 for 10 days. Labs are good. RN told me my O2 stats got better just about 6hr ago. Guess they were low prior. Ive been up walking round the floors today too. Going home tomorrow if can hold liquids down: no vomiting and I progress ok. Stomach is very sore. No nausea and pain is a 4_5 most of the time. RN told me my O2 stats got better just about an hr ago. Guess they were low prior. Will come back and post as I progress.

I was driving by day 5. A short drive as I had to take my daughter to ballet class. Today I drove about an hour total to run errands. I only took Tramadol the day after I was discharge but have been on Tylenol 2 times a day which manages my pain very well. I have a 20lb weight restriction for 6 weeks. I’m 1 week out from surgery.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Judy

  4. Hi Alejandro,

I'm happy to share experiences with you. I just had my VSG today!! Doing ok, soreness when I move out of the chair and standing up..

I have a few RN friends who have had this procedure and you will not regret it.!

I had my 10 day follow up appointment today. Down 16 pounds! The nurse practitioner removed my surgical coverings, said everything looked great. Main concern I had for her was that I had a vertigo episode on my staircase this morning. She said that since I was getting in 64 or more ounces of Fluid a day that it was probably from a lack of calories. I'm supposed to get up to 500 a day by next week, but have only been able to get in 300 or so in the past couple days. I haven't been very hungry and have had to work my way up to two Protein Shakes plus other things like sugar free popsicles a day. I got 425 calories in today, plus reached my minimum Protein goal for the first time today. I know I'll get there.

Yeah for you! Keep trying and slowly stand up, preferably with suport your gonna get there. How are you feeling this far out? Is everyone driving by this time? Any Lifting restrictions? My program, Dr. didnt mention either preop. Thanks.

I did it!! Sleeve is done! Pain and nausea are under control. Been on the floor 3 hours and have been up to the bathroom twice and done 5 laps around the unit, which seemed to surprise the surgical resident doing her night shift rounds. It’s been an interesting day to say the least. I am super grateful for my wonderful husband for being so supportive and helpful in my decision to have a healthier life. Now time to rest a while!!! Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts and prayers!!!

@fitnessRN19 Congratulations, glad you are doing great! Best of luck when you get home. I hope I do as well Monday. Hearing of how well everyone is doing post op gives me hope that mine will be tolerable and I'll be able to return to work quickly.

I've been upgraded to clear liquids!! Will be discharged later today. Ahhhh...It's just so exciting!!

    I feel great!!!

Perhaps in January, we can move this thread to post-op and continue to support each other, share tips and tricks, recipes, etc, and of course share our weight loss stats!

Congratulations!🙂. I know it's a relief to know you probably wont spend another night in the hosp. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

  9. I am not the guru, just preop vsg for Monday. So I've read lots of forums that address the fact that hormones are stored in fat. This surgery disrupts all that. I have addressed this with my hubby and tried to prepare him for what's to come. Essentially I need a space to cry get mad or whatever and he should find a something to do without bothering me. His response was "so I get to watch a lot of uninterrupted football? Great" Since I've been thru major surgery a few times, I have found keeping yourself occupied, reading, going for walks and not taking what your temporarily feeling at the moment/hrs out on others makes a huge difference. We all know most men have a hard time figuring us out on our best days, let alone when were a hot mess🤣 Good luck and this too shall pass.

  10. I am I the same boat, desk job, but have 8 days off with the Christmas and new year's holidays included. Im not trying to scare anyone here, but for anyone having surgery, I can not express enough to get up once an hr and walk! This relieves most gas pain and prevents post surgical blood clots that can easily travel to your heart, head or lungs and put you in the ER. Best of luck to you!

Hi y'all. Newbie here, but I have been lurking, and reading, and learning. My sleeve date is December 2nd. I start my one week liquid diet next Tuesday, so I get to drink broth and Jello for Thanksgiving! haha!

I am super excited and very terrified at the same time. When I got my date set I had a mini panic attack. I was freaking out if I was doing the right thing or not.

I am 52 years old, I am ready for this journey, and am ready to be healthy and lose 100 pounds.

Me too, 52 and Dec 23 surgery date. HT 5'2" HW 205, GW 130... post anytime and let us know how your doing.
