Surgery went well. Came home this past friday. Haven't been feeling too great since then. Constant pain in my chest when I sip something. One incision on my right side hurts like hell. So I cant really bend.

I feel bad because I told her I would bounce back quickly when I got home.

So glad your surgery went well!! Try drinking room temperature drinks. Water, Protein Shake, etc. Warm broth too. Warmer liquids don't seem to give that chest pain as much.

The incision on your right side is probably the one they removed your stomach from. My upper right incision actually hurt so bad about a week and a half after surgery that I went to my surgeon's office to have them check it out. I was worried I messed up something internally. They said it's normal and just the muscle repairing itself and it will be the most sore.

Don't feel bad for taking the appropriate time needed to recover. It's better you take the time now needed to get better rather than rush things and end up hurting yourself and not having a choice.

Best of luck on your weight loss journey and I hope your wife starts being more supportive! I've been very fortunate that my fiance has supported my decision.

I kept one pair of pants, a belt, and one shirt as a reminder of where I'll never be again.

I donated to goodwill and also shopped there for a year, many of the shirts I got at goodwill were donated again a few weeks after I got them as they got too big. At $5-6 a shirt it only made sense. It was sort of like renting :)

I've been hitting up our local Goodwill also! Lots more stylish options now that I'm in smaller sizes!

I have looked like a Homeless guy for the last 6 months, I have now just started picking up a few things that fit. I did this as a way of reminding me how dang fat and out of shape i was. I had a huge wardrobe of huge clothes so i have donated Lawn and Leaf bags full of clothes. I am never going back to that size would rather be dead!

Sure has pissed off the kids walking around in big baggy clothes for the last few months

I'm sure my work place thinks they should do a clothing drive for me, hahaha! I've been wearing leggings and baggy jeans. I hate clothes shopping. I've donated the items that I know are ridiculously too big, but kept the stuff that kind of fits still.

    Skin and bone.

Specifically, in the sitting place. If I sit on the floor now at the gym it HURTS. I never expected that. Though my butt still LOOKS plenty padded. Have thin people always dealt with that? I was chubby even as a kid so I have no clue.

Also, I get there's a general loosening of skin. Totally expected. But the loosening of skin in the booty area has resulted in a constant pinching sensation when I'm sitting. Is that just me? When I go to rowing class I need to use chafing cream to ensure I don't end up with... er... cheeky friction burns.

Other bones are making themselves known, too. Curling up to sleep in the fetal position, my knee bones bang against each other now.

Who knew bones were such an intrusive thing??

Yes!! I've noticed I have aches and pains still, but different kinds! My hips actually hurt if I sleep funny and my backside is bony.

All of my weight loss is coming from the upper part of my body. I am starting to resemble a girl in the early stages of developing boobs.🀣🀣

Same on where the weight loss is coming from! My thighs are still like thunder!! It's frustrating as heck!

I have always wanted to have a collection of jackets. Like lots to use as accessories. Now I’m usually just stuck buying functional jackets that I can get in my size and wearing the hell out of them.
I’m looking forward to being able to shop in any store and buy interesting or sale jackets and have a collection I don’t look like I’m squeezed into!

Yes!! I never could find cute, accessory jackets that fit right that didn't cost an arm and a leg. It is nice being able to fit stuff over my arms now.

I took your advice. I take 2 bites. Literally wait 5 minutes and take 2 more. So far so good.

I think I was just going too fast and not chewing long enough. I have slowed down and chewed more and waited longer between bites and have noticed a big difference. I hope you are doing well in your recovering!

Yikes. Did u count how many bites before the upchucking started? Did u feel full? Just trying to see what to expect. I'm not a graceful puker. It comes out of every orifice in my face in a Linda Blair fashion.

I want to say it was my fifth small bite. I had already mixed the Beans with some Water to thin them, but I still chewed just as a precaution. I probably would have done better if I would have waited longer times between bites too.

Just checking in to see if anybody has transitioned to soft foods/pureed foods yet? I was cleared yesterday to start them..

I was cleared to start them yesterday. I tried refried Beans with some cheese sprinkles and that went okay. Except I must have taken one bite too many because after about five minutes I was in the back bathroom at work throwing up. It was brutal and most definitely unpleasant.

My doctor said the Protein Shakes are harsher on the stomach when they are premixed or mixed with milk. He told me to make my own Protein shakes with Celebrate 4 in 1 with Water and not milk to start out with. I dont know if it makes a difference or not because I haven't tried it with milk yet. I am keeping this protien down though. So maybe there's something there, maybe not. Good luck. Hope u find your happy medium.

@aholland Thank you! I was wondering if it was the thickness or the milk in there. I tried the Premier RTD vanilla cut with Decaf coffee the other morning and it seemed to go down and stay down decently. It made the coffee to sweet, so I'm going to stick with unflavored mixed in with things or broth flavored stuff for a bit longer. The two times I got sick before have me scared to overdo anything. Thank you for the help on the milk based things!

@smaller_sav Thanks for asking. I’m doing OK I’m up to pureed foods now But I find them difficult to eat very uncomfortable. As for when I was in the hospital I was in a pretty good amount of pain but it was alleviated pretty much by day three or four

@Thea7777 I'm glad to hear your pain level isn't too high. I've been fortunate in that department too. Mainly just the incisions are sore if I move too quick or the wrong way. The incision itching is absolutely horrendous though. I bought kids benadryl and took about 15ml and that is knocking the intensity down. I couldn't tolerate some of the thicker shakes- like the regular Premier, but Isopure seems to go down well. I think I am gun shy from throwing up Premier because I'm struggling to get in fluids and Protein.

I am now 5 days post op and finding it difficult to tolerate full liquids. Today I am trying to get in enough Protein with my Clear Liquids. I do find that the Protein broths are easier to drink than the sugary Protein Shakes. You just have to drink more of it to get the same protein.

@Gumby19943 My diet plan said I could try full liquids at 3 days out. I tried a Premier Protein vanilla shake and did not tolerate it very well at all. I also had to go back to Clear Liquids and broths. I did try a Campbell's sipping Soup yesterday though and it was amazing!! It took me most of the afternoon, but it stayed down and the taste was divine! I tried the squash and sweet potato one.

Hi. If anyone is curious I had my surgery Tuesday. As of today I’m doing well. No need for pain meds. My stomach feels still so bloated though. Like I’m pregnant! No big issues with my liquids just not that interested. Its like a job to fit everything in. Passing gas is a challenge but walking around is helpful. Any questions feel free to message me. Im more than happy to share any of it if will help! Good luck to those coming up!

Hi @Thea7777! How are you feeling? How bad was the pain in the immediate recovery at the hospital?

@smaller_sav don't get me wrong I am nervous the closer it does get and it is now just two days away and I am a big baby when it comes to pain thank goodness for pain meds for after surgery. I have been in some pain due to my weight issue like my back knees and joints but haven't taken anything and I know that surgery pain will be far greater than and pains I feel now. I am just ready to get through the hardest part of surgery and recovery . I thought the hardest part would be the month long liquid diet but know that seems to be like cake work now that I am 2 days away from completing that which I honestly thought I would not make it through

I'm two days away now and the nerves are setting in! Today is your surgery day @Rays of Sunshine? I wish you the best of luck and prayers for a speedy recovery!!

Agreed on the liquid diet! At this point that seems like the last two days aren't so bad!

I’m having a gastric sleeve done on the 18th. I was suppose to have it done August 20th but the Doctor had to take time off and so I had to reschedule with a different doctor. I’ve been waiting but I just want to get it done and start this new chapter in my life. I have a daughter in middle school and a step son in high school and they keep me really busy. I got everything ready for the surgery. I guess my only question is what should I wear to go home in?

My other surgery twin!! My surgery is the 18th as well! I'm planning on trying to find a loose dress or gown type something for the ride home. I'm in AL and it's still hot as three hecks here so no sweatpants.

I am new here but surgery date is 9/18. Two days into my liquid diet and it’s a little rough right now but keep telling myself to hang in there.

Krisss you're my surgery twin!!! Mine is the 18th too!! My preop diet has been the two week liver shrinking diet. shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch, then 4-6oz. of approved meat with side of non-starchy veggie. Also, had to wean off caffeine and it's been tough. But we've got this!!!

  17. 13 hours ago, Lizzziee said:

Getting off caffeine has been awful for me! I feel like I’m walking around in a fog and I keep having headaches.

Yes!! I finally got over it this past weekend because I purposely ran out of coffee at home since no one else drinks it there. I can honestly see why people relapse. It was terrible. Out of habit I still want to make a cup of coffee and drink it, but nope.

I had my surgery on the 9th. I am home now. And the pain comes and goes. I'm trying to walk more around the house and around the apartment building on the inside. I know pretty soon I will realize that it was worth all of this.

and it feels so amazing to have no desire to eat. I am no longer a slave to food.

Congratulations on your surgery! I am looking forward to that same feeling!

Currently post surgery. I’m on my second day at the hospital in my bed. I did my first walk around for today not too long ago. I had one yesterday as well. So I just really hurt in my upper tummy. I feel like that’s where he pulled the rest of my stomach out. But more than anything I am very very sleepy. My doctor said I was the easiest surgery of yesterday. I think it took them an hour and a half according to my boyfriend. Which is very good news to hear. I also have six Incisions. Alright, good night.

    Congratulations on doing well!
